The Great Ranking of the Bonds! - Rate The Actors By Categories
(I couldn't find any threads like this, so I'll give this a try.)
With all the endless discussion and debate regarding each of the six Bonds, I thought it could be fun and interesting with a more systematic/scientific approach to the rating of each actor. Therefore I have selected ten more or less "essential" Bondian characteristics for rating. Of course every Bond fan puts a varying level of importance on each of these categories, so the objective is not to determine the "best Bond", but the most complete, the one who constantly delivers on all "Bondian elements". It would be interesting to see how each list is in relation to each member's personal ranking/appreciation of each actor.
The categories are as follows:
1. Suaveness/style
- The actor's charisma, style, appearance on screen. The way he moves etc...
2. Physicality
- How much does the actor look the part physically, and how convincing is he during fight scenes?
3. Charm
- How smoothly and elegantly does the actor deal witth the opposite sex? How convincing is he during pick up scenes?
4. Action
- How intense and convincing is the actor during all kinds of action scenes? How well does he move, how much is he in the moment?
5. Humour
- The actor's delivery or reaction to quips, puns or general comedic moments.
6. Sophistication
- Manners and behaviour. Knowledge and taste in clothes, food and drink... or just about anything...
7. Looks
- The actor's looks in isolation (other elements lik charm, style, physicality etc. should not factor in). How good looking is he? And, importantly, how does he resemble your image of Bond?
8. Believability
- An important category. How believable is the actor as a British secret agent?
9. Ruthless killer
- How well does the actor capture Bond's dangerous side as a cold killer?
10. Fleming
- How does the actor resemble Fleming's original creation, the 'Bond of the novels'?
The overall verdict can be determined in two ways:
By Ranking:
- Rank the actors in relation to each other for each category, determing an average position/result (divided by 10)
By Rating:
- A score out of 1-5 for each category, determing a total score out of 50.

sorry I actually don't understand how you can divide by 10 the place number and have some result with coma... so I just put my détails right under, with the number of times each position is taken (from 1st place to 6th).

Personal ranking : (sometimes that's complicated and may change)

It's not complicated. You summarize the actors placement in the ranking of each category, for example giving 1 point for each first place, 4 for each 4rth place, 6 for each 6th and so on. You will end up with a number of 20, 30, 40 + something, and then you divide that with 10 (the amount of categories), determing the actor's average ranking postion. ;)
I thought it was an interesting difference between simply rating the actors for each category, and ranking them in relation to each other. The results might end up to be quite similar, but its still a different way of ranking the actors.

Well, I guess numbers do not lie. Despite Brozz being my 2nd favourite Bond, he is only rescued by a technicality. I found this quite fascinating. The categories represent a good blend between action and drama. Strangely, Connery only topped one of the categories, yet came out on top. A worthy winner methinks.

Thank you good sir. I have been as honest as possible with my rankings and think that shows. I like to be as objective as possible with things like this and try not to put personal feelings ahead, that's why the personal ranking is at the end. Don't think there is anything I would change really. Each actor has put their own mark on Bond and all bring something different to the table. Because they bring something different, rankings should show that.
I've looked at other rankings and think that, because of the categories, the final list can throw up some big surprises. It's great stuff really.

I just want to point out that the distinction between 'objectivity' and 'subjectivity' can be very vague sometimes. Even an objective opinion/analysis will have an element of subjectivity to it when dealing with topics like this. The point of this thread is to be as fair as possible of course, giving each actor praise/criticism where it is due. But there is certainly no reason to 'feel bad' if your ranking has an element of subjectivity to. It is all about personal assessment after all! ;)

Pretty close between a lot of them, except Lazenby LOL.
Personally, I like Connery, Moore and Brosnan equally with Dalton being ever so slightly behind. Craig is a little behind that, and Lazenby comes in last by a noticeable but not considerable margin.
And latter count all the votes from all the users and see by average ratings who were the best at each category
I could latter make a very creative list.
Trust me in the creative side i will make a very nice list with all our results i just need someone good at numbers or Microsoft excel hehe.
Lets just rank them by the same categories where we give...
