I that case then yes the above order by @NicNac for which film brought the series back on track after the overblown film that came before is correct in my opinion.

    2. FYEO
After MR it was a solid, deliberate decision to cut the hardware out of the series for the time being.
After seeing the "Inside FYEO" doc on the SE DVD, I figure EON's decision to cut back on the hardware was as much or even more a budgetary/economic one as an artistic one.
    3. OHMSS
YOLT was about Blofeld and his madcap schemes, as was OHMSS.
Agreed. While less elaborate than YOLT, OHMSS's plot with Blofeld brainwashing the 12 best looking farm girls ever in order to contaminate the world's food and crop supply via lethal makeup kits isn't exactly what I would call "realistic". Not that I mind that.

A good point! OHMSS didn't go the full length like FYEO and CR. Granted it was a '60s Bond movie, but still, it didn't completely lose the fantasy fun. However, since the audiences back in 1969 had already lost Sean Connery, I'm sure the directors didn't want them to lose anything else, which is probably why they stuck with Blofeld's evil plan. It was a pattern they had gotten accustomed to, and it would have been a flop if they went all out to make it real, given the fact that there was already a new 007, much to the audience's chagrin.

That was taken directly from Fleming's novel.

Oh, I know that. Except in the novel it was just girls from the UK, not from the world over. It still isn't the most realistic plot in the world but realism isn't exactly what I come to Bond(movies or books) for so I have no complaints about this.

I also wish in the film, if Bond escaped Piz Gloria not knowing what Blofeld's plan was, like in the novel. I'd have liked to have seen him working that out with M and the others at his house.

They're the only points as far as my nitpicking would go.

Both Casino Royale and OHMSS were great films, but I'm going to give the nudge to CR.

For Your Eyes Only is the ugly stepchild of this bunch here; it is clearly not as good as the other two. CR and OHMSS added (in varying degrees) something new to Bond (successfully), FYEO was a fairly conservative entry. There is nothing immensely wrong with For Your Eyes Only, but there isn't much immensely great about it either. (Though the car kick off the cliff was effective). I still do like it, it is a solid flick, but not much else for me.

    On my list it goes:

    1) Casino Royale - 10/10
    .....
    5) On Her Majesty's Secret Service - 9/10
    ......
    17) For Your Eyes Only - 7/10

But don't let the #17 offend you fans of FYEO, it is still a good Bond film....the films that round out my list (18-22) are the bad ones ;-)

For Your Eyes Only if only because it was believable and for once Moore seemed to take the role seriously than the usual clowning around

Casino Royale was fun, lively, good music, but since when did Bond resemble a WWE wrestler or have his testicles violated?, or even jump around tall buildings like some flea on amphetamines

OHMSS, was bit dull, I liked Lazenby, many people thought he was the worst, can't say that, it would of been interesting to see him in another release, but it seemed to drag on for ages and the alpine ski resort bits were all a bit dull in the end

ITA, SJK91. FYEO tends to play for me like the best episode of "The Saint" rather than a great Bond film, even if in 1981 it was the most faithful to Fleming film since OHMSS. Like you, I rank CR and OHMSS both a lot higher.

You know, it's funny PKK I've used that line you bolded before...maybe it was on the old forums or hidden somewhere here, I'm not sure....but I think it was you who agreed with me on that statement last time, too! Haha cheers.

Agreed about OHMSS. It's only problem is that there's nothing lively during the middle of the movie, so we're left being bored to death from the time Bond cracks the safe until he escapes from Piz Gloria. The big gun fight at Piz Gloria at the end wasn't even all that great compared to those of YOLT and TSWLM. Thank goodness Bond fought Blofeld on the bobsleds, or otherwise the ending finale would have been a total waste!
