I think the fight between Bond and Slate is the greatest fight in the Bond series (in terms of raw action), and I don't see it ever being toppled off that spot for me.

Connery did it twice better in FRWL in the train & DAF in the elevator, and they were better edited too. ;)

@SaintMark, agreed on the editing, but then again, the editing is what makes the fight so much more intense in QoS, especially after you see it enough and truly figure out what in the hell is going on. ;-)

Both of those fights are fantastic, but like I said, Slate vs. Bond wins it for me. The DAF one is great, I just don't like how it ends.

Whilst as a 'film' QoS suffers (it's a bit hyperactive and doesn't really build anything), I still marginally prefer it to Skyfall, in some weird way.

    - The 'Tosca scene' in Bregenz is one of Craig's best moments as Bond, a real classic 007 scene...it just oozed class, atmosphere & easily tops anything Skyfall had to offer i.m.o .

    - The Airplane stunt was, to my mind, far more thrilling and impressive than SF's pedestrian action...

As pure entertainment QoS does work for me.

I mostly agree, although I am not a huge fan of the plane scene. Too CGI for my liking. I think the opera sequence is the best in any Bond film since LTK though.

It's definitely third when compared to the other Craigs, but I like this film as well.

    Awesome opening.

Glad to see that there's a thread like this here. I love Quantum of Solace. It is, IMO, the best of the Craig films. Yes, there are some areas where they could have perhaps expanded on the story a bit and developed things better, aside from that, I can't think of much that's wrong with it (aside from the terrible title track, of course).

We see eye to eye here.
I love QOS in part BECAUSE it seems raw, fast paced & slightly unfinished. It reminds me of Dr. No in many ways.

Always glad to see some love for QoS, which is unfairly maligned on these pages.

@dalton, I also see it as possibly Craig's best (although CR has grown on me). I think the pacing definitely works in its favour - whereas CR and definitely SF are sort of bloated and overlong.

Check out my 'live chat' of sorts in the 'Last Bond Movie You Watched.' I probably had two or three complaints. I've loved that film since day one.

I loved it when from day one as well. I remember leaving the theater after Casino Royale thinking that it was easily the best Bond film they'd made in a while (which it was), and that it would be difficult to top it, but I thought they really pulled it off with Quantum of Solace. Like @Getafix said, it lacks the bloated nature of Casino Royale, which I've long argued could lose the first half and be a better film, and Skyfall.

While I love CR and think it is near perfection, QoS is just narrowly behind it. I geeked out after I left CR (all three times) in theaters, but was truly blown away each time I walked out of the theater to see QoS. The first time, my mind kept dwelling on all the great lines, exciting action sequences, the finale, how it all wrapped up, all of it. I couldn't believe that the film was so entertaining. Wish I could say the same about SF, but that's another topic.

I wish I could say the same thing about Skyfall as well. I was pumped when I left Quantum of Solace, and had I been on my own rather than with a friend, I would have turned right back around and gone to see it a second time. I found myself checking my watch several times during the duration of Skyfall.

As others have already said, the real standout was the Tosca sequence. Still, for my money, one of the very best sequences in the entire Bond franchise.

Tosca is very beautifully done. I think that's a constantly accepted opinion around these parts from both QoS lovers and haters. As for SF, I wish I saw it under different circumstances: not watching the trailers 100,000 times, not digging into so much news, not seeing so many spoilers, not anticipating it so much, not drinking mojitos before I went in...

Yes, there was definitely an element of me knowing too much already before seeing SF, whereas I practically knew nothing about QoS before going in.

I still believe that QoS works very well in terms of what it sets out to achieve - a pacy, entertaining, little adventure. It lacks the grandeur of CR and pretensions of SF, but is no worse off for that. I respect it for its simplicity.

And most of all it has one of the very few down to earth/believable spy plots in the franchise and the least plotholes since TWINE (which I -contrary to public opinion -saw and still do see as the best movie since FYEO. Mind you there were quite a few, which could have been great, but in the end non of them really made the cut)

I've been waiting since...*checks watch*...2008! If it hasn't by now, it will never see the light of day. An extended cut, some deleted scenes (such as explaining the different areas/outfit Bond visits during the finale, unless those were just test promo shots), more special features, etc., I would snap this up in a heartbeat if it was ever released. I can't believe the alternate ending is out there somewhere, and we won't see it.

Never say never again. It might happen one day. But like many of you have said, QoS is perfect as it is. Not necessarely worse or better than the other Craig films. Just different. Though parts of it are better than CR or SF.

It's been five years since the film was released on DVD and blu-ray, and with the recent 50th Anniversary, I honestly don't see it happening. I want it to, but I doubt it will.

How about a cut that includes the Bassey song then?

Oh, I'd pay real money for THAT.
  • There is some good things i QoS, such as Craig's amazing performance and the locations. And Strawberry Fields!!

The best thing about QoS is the end.

    @RC7.

I try and avoid comments like that when even talking about DAF or DAD.

Well I don't think that any can argue against the single best aspect of QOS, that being Dan. He was getting established in CR, he was near to losing it in SF, but his turn in Quantum was solid Bond, baby. No 'am I really a double-O?' or indecision or delirium tremors or Mum issues, just Bond meaning business.
There was just a fast, brief moment where giving up crossed his mind- then NO, eff that!
Man, I really do love that flick.

I mean it literally. The end is the best part of the film. I think the fight with Greene is the best moment of action and the Yusuf confrontation is the best moment, period.

    Appreciation thread,peeps !

Well, if people like the ending and think a shorter film is sometimes a good thing, that could count as appreciation. Depends on what tone it was said.

I personally don't get the fuss about the ending, but for some reason even those who dislike the film seem to rate it. And I do actually think the shorter running time was a good thing. CR was overlong.
