TV Episodes aired out of order --Pro or Con?

We have been watching television programing as far as we can remember. It was years before learning that the episodes are not always aired in the proper order.
I notice it during most of Star Trek TOS three year run.
One of my favorites Sliders, has many episodes during the first three seasons (on FOX) that were aired out of order. Its not so noticable except in the first season and one or two "OMG" in Season Three.

I never got into :Firefly and now I hear that it was aired way out of sequence. Maybe thats why the show never hit its stride...

I know networks reserve the right to do this in order to take advantage of the ratings but it can be so annoying as far as continuity goes.

It depends on the show. Batman The Animated Series, for example, has no real order, so you can watch the episodes whenever, really, aside from a few special cases. Interestingly enough, FOX seems to be the major offender when it comes to airing shows out of order.

I followed X-files and when I got me some season boxsets I found episodes I had never saw before and they made sense in the bigger picture of the show,

I am very pro in order.

With a show like X-Files, you have to have that. It isn t a big deal with all shows.
