I think this is Waltz dubbing himself in the German version, right?

I'm not sure he does, actually. His lines sound very monotonous here, and I somehow doubt that he would deliver them so well in English and not be able to make them equally chilling in German, his native tongue. What do the other German speakers around here think?

It is Christoph Waltz really. I recognize his German voice. Remember, with dubbing you can't always recreate for the full 100% the same kind of tone in the dubbed voice. That's because of difference in -number- of words used in translated material. With dubbing, the lip-sync is very important.

It's one of the reasons I never liked dubbed films.

ffff-ing hilarious hehe :)) . So glad Waltz is in "SPECTRE".

Actually, I found the follow-up of your video, with this scene. Also quite...insane :-P:

And here's another video, which served as the basis of "Der Humpink" ^:)^:

Anyway, back on topic! I've been youtubing quite a bit this weekend. And on there the first reviews of the SPECTRE-trailer are showing up. Here are a few of those reviews:

By the way, I'm quite surprised how difficult Americans find it to pronounce "SPECTRE" properly :-P.

I can't believe this is getting compared to the MI5 trailer which is theatrical trailer that need to show more of a hand, this is a teaser I repeat and those who were expecting more obviously don't know the meaning of the word.

Wait till the theatrical trailer drops and we'll see if it competes with Cruise's franchise then. Which I personally have no desire to watch one bit because if I don't see another new Tom Cruise film again it will be too soon.

I take it you're not very fond of Mr Cruise? :)
But I agree, I don't see why anyone would compare a teaser trailer of one franchise to a theatrical trailer of another. Besides, they're different films and franchises, anyway. And I don't get the whole competition aspect of it all.

There was a time I tolerated him but now I can't bear to see him anything, I own Collateral as I'm a Michael Mann fan but outside of that I'm not interested. I liked the first MI film but they've got generally worse, MI2 is awful, I saw MI3 save PSH as the villain I thought it was pretty meh! and I can't be bothered with Ghost Protocol.

I know the feeling, I feel that way about some actors, too - I mean I need a very good reason to watch anything they're in (director or other actors), and even then it can be hard.
As for Cruise, I've never been a fan, but don't actively dislike him either and can easily watch his movies, and will see the new MI, too, though I agree the first has been the best.
Michael Mann, aww... and PSH, waaaah... (about to continue watching Doubt...).

    ---

    Gorgeous stills, thank you, @hthomas20.

And I haven't said it yet, but I absolutely need to, so here goes: Hoyte van Hoytema! ^:)^

i know a lot of us are busy constructing a golden calf to Hoyt Van Hoytema over the look of Spectre... but lets not forget that Mendes does play a part in creating that look as well... it's the DOP's job to create the Director's vision...

but credit where credit's due, it is stunning cinematography, and i wouldn't be surprised if Mendes uses Hoytema on future projects from now on (if they got along working together of course).

One thing is for sure now. "SPECTRE" will only be the 2nd Bond film that will directly refer to a previous Bond film title. In this case "Skyfall".

"From Russia With Love" was obviously the first, directly referring to "Dr. No" ;-).

And I bet that Bond 25 will reference to SPECTRE ;)

Also, don't forget OHMSS which referred to TWINE 30 years before it even came out, and Skyfall referring to FYEO.
How come there is still dubbing in European countries for adult films? Ridiculous.
You idiot, they dub movies in Italy because most american actors can't act at all and the movies are improved a lot by dubbing.
You all complain about Lazenby's performance and the change of voices when Bond pretends to be Sir Hillary. This issues don't exist in the italian version, because they were smarter and instead of hiring an inexperienced actor they hired a professional one.

Not to mention Francesco Prando's marvelous voice compared to Craig's.

@haserot - well... for my part I can add that I'm aware directors have a lot to do with how their movies look like, and I tend to look at directors before cinematographers, editors and actors. It's the directors who decide the general look and feel they want, they instruct the DPs and editors and actors on that, and choose certain takes and choose what gets in and what's left out. And they choose to work with certain people in the first place (both actors and crew... to whatever extent it's possible). I know they're not omnipotent, either, and the financiers don't necessarily let them make all casting choices, studios meddle, and so on, but as a general rule I hold the directors responsible for a hell of a lot. I believe I have expressed my admiration and fondness for Sam Mendes on this forum before (though I guess it's been awhile), but I don't remember doing that for Hoyte Van Hoytema before, so thought I should say something about him. I also want to add that I greatly enjoyed his work on Interstellar. And yes, yes, Mr Nolan is on my to-be-hugged-if-ever-I-get-a-chance list. As is Mr Mendes. (And don't worry folks, I ask for permission, I don't just jump on people.)

Caught the trailer Saturday afternoon but had to sit through 13 pages to comment!

    This trailer was amazing!
Suspense, intrigue and an eerieness to it that dictates this is going to be a whole lot more than being just a great Bond film but it's going to be a great film. Period. I for one didn't needed to see action, many of us here irrespective of having read the script but have been following the production know there's going to be plenty of action so no need to worry, we'll get that in the next trailer but for now SP is shaping up to be a real spy thriller with so many engaging offerings. The scenery, setsand music were atmospheric and creepy and when the Bond theme in bell version kicks in it reminded me of Avengers AoU using the bell variation of Pinnochio's I've got no strings.

It was so good to see Mr. White and Waltz in shadow. Mendes and everyone involved have done and are doing a marvellous job. As for the competition...lol please. No spy-centric movie this year will out perform Bond on any level.
Anyway, this is looking to be Craig's best and is likely to be a Bond actor's best 4th entry.

The trailer was awesome, bond seeing Mr. White again and showing him the SPECTRE Ring was a badass scene "you are a kite dancing in a hurricane, Mr. Bond." Plus, Waltz is clearly Blofeld. Mendes and the 007 crew since Casino Royale have done a great job at re-introducing the world of James Bond to modern audiences. It's so much more epic and compelling. It' s more about the man (bond himself) than material things like invisible cars, sex quotas and the office showing up for sex scenes at the end of the movie everytime.....all in all, they've done a fantastic job and I have no doubt this movie will be great.

    Two observations re-watching the trailer:

1)Naomi Harris looks like a bit like black Lois Maxwell. Something to do with her haircut and clothes. I thought the same at the end of SF (but not in the movie itself). I think they really channeled Maxwell for this new Moneypenny.

2)Nice to see Bond's flat. And you can see he recently moved in.

I watched the first two so far. Is it only me or do YouTube reviewers get pretty clueless? The first one did not know the MI6 headquarters really existed and she seems to think SP will take its cues from the last Austin Powers movie. There is nothing that looks more like a red herring like a half burned picture where one of the faces is missing.

I did like that the first reviewer took Bond's still packed belongings to hint that he's rarely home and hasn't had time to unpack because of his globe trotting job, rather than him just moving in.

I think it is a bit of both: he hasn't moved in for very long and he is busy with work.

Thinking about it a bit since teaser came out... some of my observations of where Sony would go next with marketing:

I genuinely won't be surprised if we get a more action packed "IMAX-exclusive" teaser with Avengers in just over a month (also well timed for CinemaCon where they've originally planned to show 7 minutes of footage, although idk if that's changed), much like they put an IMAX trailer with TDKR a few weeks before Skyfall's main trailer was released (which went down really well last time, especially with Sony making sure it played OS, hell I was surprised to see it all dubbed and everything in front of a TDKR IMAX showing in freaking Russia!), fitting in nicely in between the teaser and the main trailer which I'd say could be mid-June?

Only problem here is SDCC...although last time the only SDCC thingthing was a special IMAX remix event/show where they debuted the IMAX trailer. But given earlier teaser, makes sense.

And third (4th if you count IMAX) final trailer sometime mid-September, could see them placing it with Maze Runner 2 to attract that YA/Hunger Games demographic - EON probably know there's no way they'll match Star Wars or Avengers, so Mockingjay Part 2 is their main rival here.

    Thoughts?

Im really a fan of SPECTRE the organization being emphasized as dark and sinister. Or so it seems in the trailer. The originals were great for the connery days but its a new age and I think this is the right direction. I hope the whole movie isnt dark as the trailer would suggest but the scenes invoving SPECTRE can be horror like Im totally fine with that. Anyone agree?

Is the revived S.P.E.C.T.R.E. from 2015 really that much sinister and dark compared to the S.P.E.C.T.R.E. from the old days? Let's have a look at how the syndicate was portrayed in FRWL and TB and compare it with SP:

--> In all these three films the leading man's face, Nr. 1, is being kept in the shadows. Obviously we know that in SP that man is played by Christoph Waltz, but with all these three films: FRWL, TB and SP there is a mystery about the nr. 1 man.
--> The voice of Nr. 1 in FRWL, TB and SP is sinister, dark and mysterious. Yes, Mr Waltz voice isn't that of Anthony Dawson, but sjee, both guys knew how to give chills and goosebumps to the public solely with their voices.
--> If someone doesn't find it sinister and pretty dark if Mr Blofeld lets his henchman sting an operative with a poisoned shoe knife in FRWL.....or personally electrocutes an operative with one button in TB, then I don't know what's more or less sinister or dark ;-).

Besides, I think the teaser shows us a deliberate dark part of the upcoming Bond film. It's a perfect approach for a teaser trailer, and obviously the trailer went completely viral after it got presented. People are talking about it, similarly to when the first teaser of "Star Wars" was presented. I call it the smartest teaser trailer ever from the Craig era in that sense.

Because, I really don't think "SPECTRE" will have less humour and less action as compared to "Skyfall". I think it's the opposite really. "SPECTRE" already has two way more memorable action sequences as compared to "Skyfall":
--> 1. An action-packed street chase and fight on a helicopter in the PTS (Mexico)
--> 2. An action-packed, memorable, "Ronin"-esque car chase in Rome (Italy)
--> 3. An action-packed car/airplane chase in the air/on the ski slopes (Austria)
--> 4. And most likely there's a memorable action sequence at the very end (Morocco/UK)

By jolly dear fans, that's at least 60% more memorable action sequences as compared to "Skyfall".

I also think Bond has got his emotions more in check as compared to his previous three adventures. Yes, he looks rather shocked in the teaser trailer when he gets the material from Miss Moneypenny. But those are heavy dramatic moments of the film I think, deliberately used for the teaser trailer. I strongly believe we'll have more humour, perhaps even the old couple from the London Underground shows up again!

I'm also curious if Bond is connected to a headphone again when he's driving his Aston Martin DB10. Plenty space to inject some perfectly executed oneliners there!

So I think we're in for a big thrilling Bond ride, that evokes chills, goosebumps, excitement ánd laughter....lots of laughter ;-). If compared to a 1960's Bond film, I think it'll be the "Thunderball" of our days.

Movies are dubbed in Germany too. Actually they use mostly highly trained dubbing actors, some of them having their own acting career (TV and theater) here in Germany. So at least the dubbing is really good.
I enjoy the original versions more. But to be able to see these in the theater you have to drive quite a distance into the next big town.

The dubbing in France was incredible in the 60s/70s and started to become more and more generic after that. The translation became more and more "by the words", while before that it really was more of an adaptation, not only for the title, but for the dialog too. When a translator adapts a foreign book, everybody says the translation/adaptation is very good, but now it's forbidden for Hollywood movies. There are contracts everywhere to avoid legal issues with a too "strong" adaptation I guess... For the Harry Potter books, the translator was praised here for all the names he adapted, hopefully it was then used for the translation of the movies. But now well "Quantum of Solace" is turned into, hm, "Quantum of Solace". No more "Thunderball" turned into "Operation Tonnerre" (a French title so good you can hear it in a song of that time to describe what happened in France that year). And "From Russia With Love" turned into "Bons Baisers de Russie" made such an impact that "Bons Baisers de .." now means "Bond" here. These adaptations were first made for the books.

Dubbing is for idiots. Period. I NEVER watch dubbed films. It´s the most ridiculous thing. And, IMO, disrespectful to thespians all over. Only people who don´t know any other language than their own like dubbing. Learn, for f. sake. Don´t want to learn, don´t want to make the effort? Than brand yourselves as stupid people. Besides, the things that get lost in translation... Like Edmund Wilson, If I want to read Tolstoi, I´ll learn russian, if I really can´t, I´ll search the best, closest translation in whatever language, as long as it´s the best. Movie wise, there are always subtitles. What? Can´t read and watch at the same time? Pathetic. Of course you can. You don´t need to look at the subtitles directly in order to read them. If you have to, than it´s a sign you read very poorly and/or you don´t read books very often. Cognition works like that. Sorry for the rant, but I feel very strongly about this. Dubbing is for dumb people. Period. Personally, I know six languages because I took the time and effort to learn them. Some of them, just by forcing myself to understand films without subtitles. And it´s not because I´m bright, It´s because I´m not lazy.
