I agree I loved the original teaser, I don't mind this one but would've rather waited a couple of months for a more inspired poster.
Looking forward to the first trailer though.
I know which one I'd hang on my wall.[/quote]
Now that one is a decent teaser poster. Have I said something positive about something Craig related? Might as well make the most of it, it could be a while before that happens again.
Ha! That is hilarious.
Of all the posters in the Craig era? This still stands as my personal favourite!
Now this is a Bond poster:
Somewhat uninspired to say the least. Also, a little airbrushed from my perspective. Finally, it continues Mendes' apparent desire to offer us throwbacks, this time to one of Moore's iconic outfits.
Having said all that, DC looks great and ready for business, the haircut is ok this time, and they seem to be focusing on Bond himself (which they've thankfully gone back to doing during the Craig era) rather than offering a double bill poster with the female lead which they were doing during Brosnan's time (and which I couldn't stand - although I might be willing to make a one time exception for Seydoux).
Let's hope for a more exhilarating poster as we approach the movie release date, and if they really want to do throwbacks, they should take a look at that TLD poster above for inspiration - I agree that this is how a Bond poster should be done. Classic.
My all time favourite. Simply the best!
That's already way more interesting than the one they put out.
How about one with the first SP teaser bullet hole and then we might be getting close to something half decent?
All of the poster campaigns for the Craig films have been well below par when compared to posters of old.
Personally I do like the sixties posters. But one of my all time favourites is this one...
Bond in the centre of the gun barrel, with snippets of action and women surrounding him.
But a retro 60's / 70's look would also work. It should be very busy, without being cluttered. Fingers crossed on that one.
The TLD poster is easily one of the series best. The 90's posters onwards got more and more boring and uninspired. I really hope Spectre turns that around.
I posted that on another thread here earlier, is this what you meant?
The last great poster and that's over 25 years ago.
The only ones I have been truly happy with since then are the DAD teaser very Chopping-esque) and the CR teaser.
I realise I am being very picky but the bullet hole is a bit too big and overshadows Bond for me. Keep the bullet hole the same size as @andmcit's effort above but with the SPECTRE tentacles design from yours and I would be happy.
Well as happy as I could be. Still think it's pretty uninspired but at least you guys have managed to polish it up into something passable.
Shame EON couldn't even put in the same small amount of effort as you have here.
It's not coming across too well on my work monitor, but what I did here was put a super-saturated version under a high contrast B&W version, then masked out the eyes and strap to give them some color.
I've also made it a bit off center to get the PPK in a 16:9 frame.
Well done for doing EON's job for them. That's not too bad as a teaser now but I still want something far more inspired for the main poster. Won't get it of course - it'll just be some generic photo of Daniel posing a la SF and this.
A big yes to this. Poster art use to be that, art; now it's more like elaborate cut and paste.
I still make old school artworks with pencil and paint onto paper but now only in my own time as everything exists only in digital form. It's sad but that's just a commercial necessity now. I can't see any client wanting to commission a pure work of art when the mindset now expects things in an instant through cut and paste photography.
Don't get me wrong I adore the gun barrel swirl graphic on. TLD but even a skilled artist would take days and weeks rather than minutes and hours the new breed of montages require.
The thing is,, it hasn't all just been deskilled to simply a few mouse clicks and pressing a few keys you still need an artists eye to create truly astounding and accomplished artwork. Many on a computer now have the technical ability and the hardware but not the artist's eye or the imagination. Something I can see in abundance here in the fan art by hobbyists, more so than at EON.
What do you want? Something like:
Or
We don't need really need a montage story telling poster of old but the official name and date of release on a 'brand poster'. I don't like it either!
I don't really understand your point that it has to be done instantly. Why? I'm sure Kleinman and the singer get weeks and months to come up with something so why not the poster? There have always been deadlines so why couldn't a professional artist work to that instead of this crap which has a sense of a kid doing their homework on the bus before school and saying 'that'll do'?
However you are correct to say the hand drawn posters are gone and won't be coming back. Gorgeous as the TLD poster is it would look a bit old fashioned and quaint these days but that's still no excuse for the rubbish we are getting at the moment (QOS final, SF final, SP teaser - even the CR final doesn't do a lot for me).
You don't have to draw something by hand for it to be striking and eye catching you just need a creative mind to come up with an interesting concept.
And this is not just an old man pining for nostalgia of days long gone. If you're telling me someone considers a photo of Bond standing there sufficient to fulfill their brief as 'poster artist' then I'm telling you that guy is a charlatan. Robert McGinnis, Bob Peak and Dan Goozee were poster artists mate. Youre just a bloke who read Photoshop For Dummies.
