I quite like that description. There's actually a lot of chess-like metaphors in the Bond series as a whole, when you think about it. The spy world Bond frequents is it's own chess board, with Bond a pawn of his government fighting on the front lines, a weaker force in the face of massive conspiracies like SPECTRE.
And of course at times M has been called "The Evil Queen of Numbers," White "The Pale King," and of course Bond has no doubt been teased endlessly for being a pawn, soldier, etc. of the "kindgom" or "realm." A lot of that is simply down to Bond being a celebrated staple character of an old imperial power in a series that welcomes the frequent symbolic usage of monarchical or royal sounding titles, but anyway...
Bond goes after Blofeld to stop him (and, if it works out that way, kill him). hence the destruction in Marocco. Bond is known to rile up his advisaries, that's why he said he was there to kill him.
Then in the MI6 building, Bond shoots, but he's seen the glass allready. It's just his frustration (and a homage to TWINE).
Finally, on the bridge, he's stopped Blofeld. He doesn't kill an unarmed man, he doesn't like killing in cold blood. Even though this guy has killed Oberhauser, even though they have this long-going connection. It's got nothing to do with Madeleine, he's acting like he's always done.
The drive-off isn't that special. It's another homage of Bond driving off with the girl, like he's ended with Tania in the gondola, domino under a B17, etc. etc. Even emphasized by the rebuilt (classic) DB5.
We won't see Swann again, their 'love' was as much a love story as Tania's
In other words, Bond entered a wormhole or portal of some sort.
They don't just apply to Brosnan's Bond (Martin Campbell mentions the change-of-hand when observing the yacht in the dvd commentary) but to a fair few of the others as well (night turning into dawn in the space of a second in LTK).
The most infamous gaffe? Probably the car stunt in DAF.
Dalton - he parachutes on a boat (TLD) and is aboard for Wave Krest (LTK).
Brosnan - The Manticore (GE), the Stealth Boat (TND), the Q boat (TWINE), the boat to get on the Cuban clinic (DAD).
Craig - in Venice (CR), in Haiti (QOS), on the way to Silva's Island (SF) and on the thames (SP).
DN- Boat to Crab Key
FRWL- Escape from SPECTRE goons
TB- Throughout
YOLT- Boat to the fishing village
DAF- Cruise ship with Tiffany.
GF, OHMSS & SP (Lucia) all feature black ones.
OHMSS & DAF feature silver 600 SEL Pullman limos for Blofeld. OP features a blue one used by Kamal. FYEO features a silver 280 SE (driven by Loque) and OP features a maroon 450 SEL (driven by Gobinda). Fatima drives an SL in NSNA. Elliot's goons drive two blue W126 S-classes (not sure which model) in TND.
The good guys drive them too. TMWTGG features a white 200 driven by Hip. Bond himself drives a 250SE (I think) in OP on the tracks, and he drives a rental S class in SF in Shanghai when pursuing Patrice.

Rolls Royce also gets featured a lot in these films. FRWL GF, OHMSS, TMWTGG, AVTAK, LTK, TWINE, & SP all have them.
The babes tend to drive sporty Fords (normally Mustangs). Tilly, Tracy & Fiona all drive Stangs, and Jinx drives a T-Bird.
Seagull floatie?!
:))
The first is after the DB10 has ejected Bond by parachute. At 50.42 - 50.44 the chute looks no bigger than a large table cloth. Though I'm no expert on parachutes, it does appear rather small.
The second is during the Nine Eyes meeting in Tokyo. At 51.16 although blurred you can see that Australia is one of the members. Though at 51.30 via Tanners laptop we can see that Australia isn't one of the members of Nine Eyes. They are, Spain, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Africa, United Kingdom and United States.
So what are Australia doing there? Perhaps ASIO are so good that no-one noticed. Despite the place card.
Despite this, I still find myself very much enjoying SP. My second favourite of the Craig films.

That certainly looks like her! We've got her, the minx!
