Connery vs. Moore

  • Dr. No vs Live and Let Die: I actually just rewatched Dr. No today... and it's dull. Really dull. It has some great scenes, especially Bond's introduction at the casino, but it just drags along on it's behind for most of the movie. Point to Live and Let Die.

From Russia With Love vs The Man With the Golden Gun: Easy victory to Russia. A fantastic spy flick, while the only saving grace of Golden Gun in Scaramanga. Point to Russia.

Goldfinger vs The Spy who Loved Me: This is a tricky one. The win probably goes to Goldfinger. Spy is a great movie, with a villain who is arguably better than Goldfinger, but I like the general premise of Goldfinger more. Anya is a terrible Bond girl as well, she's just completely wooden. Pussy at least had a personality. Point to Goldfinger.

Thunderball vs Moonraker: Easy win to Thunderball. I actually haven't seen it in a while now, but Moonraker is one of the worst in the series. Easy point to Thunderball.

You Only Live Twice vs For Your Eyes Only: Eyes is one of my favorite Bond movies, while Twice isn't really that fantastic. While Blofeld is a good villain, I'm not too thrilled with Pleasance's performance. I much prefer Savalas. Kristatos is also kinda a dull villain, but the plot and premise of Eyes is much superior over Twice. Point to Eyes.

Diamonds are Forever vs Octopussy: This should be hard, but isn't really. I don't really like Octopussy despite having one of the greatest villains, but Diamonds is just abysmally bad. Like really bad. It almost feels like a parody of a Bond movie rather than a proper one. Pros to Grey though for making a very underrated Blofeld. Point to Octopussy.

Well, now it's kinda hard, but A View to a Kill almost wins over any of Connery's movies, so by putting that one up against Never Say Never Again is kinda unfair. I'll do it anyway though. Point goes to View.

    Connery: 3
    Moore: 4

Kinda what I expected. I've always preferred Moore to Connery (bring out the pitchforks!).

I love Rog, but overall Sean's films are better and his performances in a different league. I would not want to lose a moment of Roger's time as Bond, but he is the lesser of the two.

Amazing how it still really boils down to Sean or Rog, after all these years.

Hey man, not for ME. For ME it boils down to Sean, Rog, Tim & Pierce.
But to the topic: No Moore film is better than Connery's best, and apologies to Moore fans for that. It's an alchemy thing.

I have to say that it boils down to Tim and Dan for me. Moore is great at playing his Bond, but his Bond isn't all that great. Still better than Sean's. (Even though he's fantastic as well, don't get me wrong)

for me connery wins all the way his bond was closer to fleming then moore and for that reason alone he beats moore every time even though i love the moore films action packed funny but hes too gentleman like to be a proper bond and his is only down fall still makes a grate bond but for me connerys just better. saying that live and let die moore plays the film moor serious and could compete with connery maybe

(i put my quote here were its relevant) have to disagree with Dr No being dull sorry i just do for the first film it holds its own i mean here we are 23rd film later and still as popular as it was in the sixties if not more popular and it would not still be here if it was not for Dr No. I most admit not as action packed as todays films but it as got some tense moments and some very relevant moments like the bit where bond shots dent in the back Bonds first kill and proves Bond had a dark side to shoot a unarmed man in the back that's dark so for many moments like that and the fact its the first Bond film you may like moore over connery that's fine but i'm sorry i have to disagree with anyone that says Dr No is dull no bond as ever been dull far fetched some times never dull. sorry its just i do not feel they made a really bad film not even Qos is a bad film

The early Connery movies are pure class, but perhaps, just perhaps, Rog occassionally comes top on pure entertainment value.
  • Connery by a long ways for me -- particularly his first two Bond films, which I think are amongst the most enjoyable and entertaining in the entire series.

I can agree with this. They both have their high entertainment value films, with some being incredibly entertaining and others falling short for me.

I want to love Moore's Bond's but I just have images of Alan Partridge shouting "ROGER!!! ROGER!!" that just ruin the coolness of it all.

One of the best Alan Partridge episodes was from the radio series when he spends the whole show expecting Roger to make an appearance and of course he never does.
