Instead another Bond villain got the role of Loomis ;)

And I think Pleasence was the best choice: Lee would have looked far too intimidating against the Shape.

And the only other one who ever played Loomis sadly never got to be a Bond villain (so far...).

Last night, I watched The Wicker Man again. Christopher Lee is monumental!

    Indeed.

Unlike Blofeld, who is often parodied, Scaramanga is well-regarded and treated with respect, no doubt of course, because of Christopher Lee himself.

    He could have been Blofeld.

    He could have been Bond.

I'm surprised no one has put this up:

    He could have been Bond.

I always thought he looked too... monstrous for it. He was born to play a Bond villain.

What I find admirable as well is that he had such a vast culture. I think he was maybe the only actor who played Dracula to ever bother reading and understanding the novel properly.

He actually fitted Fleming's description (bar the accent/ voice) of Scaramanga too. Average film, excellent villan.

actually Scaramanga in the novel was far more vulgar and brutish. Lee has an elegance that the villain did not have. All the same Lee saves the film.

In appearance he is like Lee in the book. Gaunt, pale, tall, evil stare (by desription I meant appearance). Yes you are right, in the book is more of a thug (personality wise).

    Are you....absolutely sure about that?

Perhaps iconic in that he was already an established star of heavy roles, prior to his becoming Scaramanga.

Is this a joke? I assume so. Ha ha. Stephens was poor.

That's a good joke. Selecting a shot of arguably the least iconic villain in the series, with apologies to Almaric as Domenic Greene., of course.

    :P

I did try BAIN I really did, but it kept failing. I'm not techy enough.

It's Panto, but I bloody love Stevens in DAD. Sue me. If there's ever an MI6 get together you can tie me to a wicker chair and whip my balls. I'll just continue to repeat the phrase, 'But my dreams can kill you', over and over until you give in and I win.

Both Graves and Jinx are terribly written characters, but where Halle Berry makes her role much, much worse, Toby Stevens hams it up so much that he becomes highly entertaining, and is the highlight of DAD along with Brosnan and Pike.

I suppose he's a bit like TLJ in Batman Forever. So ridiculous you can't help but find him enjoyable.

Oh, you are not wrong there, Stephens is so OTT, his performance works real well at times.
He does a good brat prince villain.
I even think his hamminess is often by design.
It's just the villain character himself, is not terribly iconic or as interesting as most of the others, I don't think, but Stephens performance does have it's moments.

Stephens does a Euro trash villain, mixed with Minime. He's just plain awful. No redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Back to Christopher Lee. Great anecdote from Mark Kermode:

Talking about DAD in a Christopher Lee thread is just wrong.
