Point taken, but I can only go by what I have experienced on the online, and after the first weekend I haven't had any issues.

Did you mean to type almost the exact thing you typed twenty minutes ago? I can't tell if it was accidental or you're driving your point across that I can stop rambling now. :))

Oh jeez. No, I typed up that first post and my browser window was acting weird and not letting the comment go through, so I reloaded the page and typed it in again. The first time it must have posted without me knowing it. Apologies... :))

Haha, no worries. Just making sure.
  • I'll still buy Origins. I don't mind if it's similar to the other games, I still get a new world to explore and a whole new story to play through. That's enough for me.

The multiplayer doesn't seem needed but we shouldn't slag it off until we've played it. Look at Assassin's Creed, not once during the first two games did I think that the game should have multiplayer but it turned out to be a nice surprise and a good change of pace from multiplayer games where you just shoot everybody.

I've just got the new issue of the PlayStation Magazine I subscribe to through and it gave Batman an 8/10 for what it's worth. I'll read the review later today and still be certain to buy the game. From what I understand it's not as much about the Origins as we're lead to believe and assumes we know the Batman story.

Fine with me. Which, if you don't know the story of Bruce Wayne in today's pop culture fueled world, there's no hope for you. We have hundreds of comics out there, the new Nolan films that have been a hit, the brilliant animated series and of course the past two Arkham games that touched on Bruce's origin and why he became Batman quite sufficiently.

I just can't wait to get the games and the DLC that follows Bruce as he trains to become Batman. That has been something I have always wanted in a Batman game (it was given to us as well in the brilliant Batman Begins game).

So, two and a half weeks until the release of the PS4, and three and a half weeks until the release of the XB1. Anyone getting both/either of these, and if so, what have you reserved?

Once the prices go down and there are more games for it, I'll be getting a PS4. There's just nothing I want for the moment.

I'll be waiting till Xmas 2014 or early 2015 before I get a PS4. I'm in no rush at present.

I'm getting the XB1 at launch, solely because I have it paid off and want to just go ahead and get it instead of waiting for a year to just re-purchase launch games I would've bought on the 360. The XB1/PS4 exclusives look great, but not too many terribly awe-inspiring games are coming out until 2014.

Reviews are coming out for this gen's version of AC4. By a quick tally, I'm saying it's about 8.5/10 average, with some complaints ranging from an uninspiring plot, repetitive, long missions that make the game too lengthy, and it feels like nothing new. But, for the visuals, they say this game goes to show how much power the current gen's consoles still have:

Reviews are also coming out for this gen's version of BF4. By another quick tally, I would say it's about an 8.5/10 average, as well, with complaints ranging from a short, uninspiring campaign to tweaks that are heavily necessary throughout the game, but overall, one of the defining MP experiences of this year:

So, our general complaints about the two series are that the games that have always been short (Battlefield) are still too short and the games that are too repetitive and long (Assassin's Creed) are still too long and too repetitive. On the whole they still look good and are good, but they're still the same thing they always were.

    Wow. Big shock.

I'm going to predict that when COD: Ghosts comes out, it's main complaints will be that it's still too short, the multiplayer hasn't changed (but will still be fun, because nobody cares about it changing), the whatever-the-hell-it's-called mode (Extinction, I think) is just as fun as Zombies, but like the rest of the game, it's still repetitive.

I'm hoping for a rest until the next Assassin's Creed game now. Bring it out on the next generation consoles in a few years and make a big splash. This seems like the perfect time, with what has been achieved so far.

I too will wait until the end of next year before I buy the PS4. At present the only game that interests me is Killzone: Shadow Fall.

@Samuel001, that's how I feel. Give us something brand new in the AC series. I tire of playing the same game year after year, and refuse to pay for that, hence why I'm skipping out on ACIV.

@Agent007391, not only are you spot on about 'Ghosts,' but the same idiots will buy the game, play it, complain about the bugs, glitches, exploits, overpowered/underpowered weapons, lame maps, cheap perks or killstreaks, complain for another month or two, swear off CoD forever, and then just purchase the one that is released next year. CoD will continue to be the same damn thing until people start realizing that they're just paying for the same product year after year and shouldn't give them any more money by buying the game brand new.

@Creasy47, except that they won't realize it. They'll be lost in how many kills they can get per spawn, then they'll brag about it, then they'll complain about how somebody's done better than them, then they'll try to compete, and the cycle will repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat ad nauseum.

Nope. They're just drones who don't realize it, nor will they. They'll follow the same pattern year after year because mommy and daddy continue to buy the game for them. It's a real shame, but at least I'm not losing money over it.

I'm getting a Wii-U for christmas. I'll be getting 007 Legends, Super Mario 3D World, Sonic Lost Worlds and New Super Mario Bros U then in 2014 Super Smash Bros 4.

Oh, you can bet it's not mommy and daddy buying it for them. Sure, for some of them it is, but for others, it's most definitely them spending their own $60, gladly and happily.

Going off the fact that a majority of the CoD community is teenagers, I'd surmise that mommy and daddy are the ones who are responsible. Granted, there are those who earn their own money and decide to burn it by purchasing these games, which is even more upsetting.

There will be a new Assassin's Creed out next year (they've already said this), and probably the year after that so there's no point getting your hopes up for a bigger wait. As long as they keep making money and getting good reviews then they'll keep releasing them every year.

While it would be nice to have a break for a few years so the next game was more of an event I really don't mind the yearly releases. They've been doing it for a good few years now and it hasn't compromised the quality of the games so I don't see what the problem is.

I also don't think it's fair to say that it's the same game. The basic gameplay is always the same (parkour and sword fighting), but it works so why change it? Even saying that, all the controls and mechanics got a complete overhaul in Assassin's Creed 3. The only game that didn't really push the series forward in any way was Revelations*, apart from that they always add tons of new content and there's always a new brilliant open world to explore.

Look at the jump between AC 3 and 4, in one year they've gone from a story focused action game set during the American revolution to a pirate game with a huge focus on exploration and freedom. Then look at the new Battlefield game, a two year gap and it's still essentially the same game as Battlefield 3.

*still loved Revelations though because of the story.

I've already bought the Wii U and I've pre ordered Assassin's Creed, I plan on buying Batman when that's out too.

@thelivingroyale, just going off of some of the reviews, I've heard it's a long, tedious game that seems to be big with not much to do. I haven't played it, nor will I, but that's just a bit of the 'cons' I've heard of the game. For die hard fans, I'm sure it's worth it, but the series became uninteresting and dull to me after the second one.

And there are those who are given hundreds and hundreds of dollars a week just because their parents feel like giving them money.

I'd rather have a long game than a short one and story wise it can't be any more tedious than the last game. Even if the story isn't brilliant the massive amount of stuff to do will be enough to keep me entertained.

Just found this and most of the reviews seem to be praising the open world.

@Agent007391, you must know my good friend, then: no job, parents pay for his entire college experience, where he continues to get a 0.0 GPA every single semester because he only sleeps in, and his Mom gives him around $100 every week, and more when he goes to hang with friends.

@thelivingroyale, I guess I just have a biased view on IV because of how much I loathed III. It looks pretty and everything seems to be the same, which is good for fans of all the previous installments, but after the chore that was getting through the third game, I'm going to pass on this one.
  • See, when I was growing up I didn't even have pocket money. And when I was a teenager if I wanted something (and it wasn't christmas or my birthday), I had to pay for it myself (I had a paper round and a saturday job at Woolworths).

    Kids today are too spoilt.

Actually, more along the lines of my friend, who's parents give him whatever money he wants, he gets paid by Social Security, he has food stamps, Medicare, Housing assistance, the works. And then he complains when he has less than $150 a month.

@Agent007391, wow. Even worse than what I thought my friend is going through. I hate listening to him talk about not having enough money for this or that when he doesn't even work. Even during school, he talked about how he couldn't wait for Spring Break because of how tired he was of being at school...even though he never attended classes and had no jobs whatsoever, while my Spring Break anticipation was warranted by attending four classes and having two jobs.

IGN have posted their AC4 review, with a score of 8.5/10

    http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/10/29/assassins-creed-4-black-flag-review

I like the sound of the exploration in the game, but after AC3, I don't want to pay full price for a game I might give up on. :-?

@MajorDSmythe, that was in the link of reviews I posted earlier. I feel if a review is stating that you might give up/want to play something else early on, then that's a really bad thing. A game should sink you in and keep you around until the end. The same thing happened to me in ACIII, it took me about a month or so just to complete the single player because I kept going off to older, more interesting games.

    'Battlefield 4'

Caved and bought the 360 version of this to give it a few weeks gameplay before I switched to the XB1 version, and I regret it. It isn't an improvement over the beta whatsoever, takes too long to rank up or get weapons, impossible to tell what's going on in battles, downgrade in both graphics and gameplay from BF3, and they've ditched so many key features: mainly customization, stats, and squads on the Main Menu. I don't get it.

I had the XB1 reserved with Forza 5, BF4, Dead Rising 3, CoD: Ghosts (for some reason), and Watch Dogs. Cancelled Ghosts after realizing it would be a bad idea, cancelled Watch Dogs and Dead Rising 3 today (just wasn't too excited for them), and now I'm debating just not getting the console altogether. After playing quite a few disappointments lately, I'm just not looking forward to next-gen consoles or anything game related in general. It's a shame.

Sounds like another cash cow where profit comes before quality. It does confirm my suspicions that so many developers and publishers are beginning to show nothing but contempt to the consumer by just churning out the same old crap every year. As for the consoles? I'm waiting till 2015 before I get one.
