What a depressing thought!
I think after Craig, Bond should go back to being a young, green, naive 00, a bit like CR but obviously not mimicking the story of that movie.
Given the prominence of superheroics on screen, I think it's time to go back to worldwide threats, fantastical lairs, theatrical villains, etc. A Gilbert/Maibaum type of affair.
Introduce a Catwoman-like figure as the Bond girl that can return for other entries if they wish, who is in a bit of a grey area, with her own agenda, sometimes on Bond's side, sometimes against him, but mostly on her own side. A will they/won't they affair between her and Bond. Like a mix between Anya Amasova and Vesper Lynd (without dying).
An ethnically diverse cast for sure. And given the fact that SJ Clarkson was considered for Bond 25, and the recent strides to increase their participation in movies, I think its only a matter of time before Babs gives a female director the gig. That will make headlines, I think in favor of the movie for sure.
That's all I got, for now.
How about Charlie Hunnam ?
In other words, 2 films. We need someone who is no older than 33 imo.
Because of Craig's equivocation over B25, BB surely has a good sense of who she would choose the next time around. A large reason for the delays in this era have been because Craig has been wildly successful as Bond, a true successor to Connery (recall that he was difficult to replace, too).
B26 will hopefully be strongly based on Fleming, a la CR. May I suggest MR.
And B27 is likely to follow soon on B26, to cement the new Bond, probably within 2 years of B26.
If the new Bond doesn't shoot into the cultural stratosphere like Connery or Craig, and follows more a trajectory of the four other Bonds, he's likely to be less in demand, wield less power, and star in more movies in a shorter period of time.
I hope we don't get a "reboot" where we have to go through what it was like for Bond in the beginning. In fact I would like to see the opposite where we see an older more mature Bond. Maybe he's in over his head, or is having some difficulty. Think of Connery in NSNA. Everyone thinks he's washed up but he still rises to the challenge.
I want to see Fleming's characters brought back and re-cast for the next era: Sir Miles Messervy as opposed to Mallory, and Major Boothroyd. As well as Moneypenny (not Eve Moneypenny).
I feel the Craig era incarnations of M, Q and Moneypenny are akin to Dick Grayson's Robin being replaced in the DC comics, Mile Morales' Spider-Man character and so forth.
I want Sir Miles Messervy's M back in the films!
Completely agree with this. That’s how I see it too.
It’s worrying I agree. I hope Barbara gets Daniel back for Bond 26.
He’s a tad short at 5ft 8in!
This is a series I do need to see, heard plenty of positive things about it!
They royally mucked up SPECTRE and Blofeld there is no sense of rebooting. I thought Marvel was smart to not show us for the umpteenth time how Peter Parker became Spider-Man. Same would be done with Bond.
I hope they explore the politically incorrect side of Bond but is doubtful that will happen. I think we will continue to see the neutered character we currently have.
I say that because I'm just not sure how much further you could take the 'blunt instrument' approach after Craig without turning the man into a robot. Daniel's been just outstanding, and whoever follows him will be compared to him. So the smart move would be to not try to compete on Daniel's turf but to find a fresh take instead.
Incidentally, for hitting that tone of wit/charm with a bit of danger, I quite like Hiddleston. Night Manager played like an audition tape. Sadly, at 38 he's already too old. . . dammit EON, it's the bloody 5-year gaps!
They've written more Bonds then Richard Maibaum. While not all of Maibaum's stuff was top tier, even his lower tier still beats Purvis and Wade. And yet they keep surviving and keep writing for Bond. What is it with these guys? Do they have pics of Babs or Michael in compromising situations? How are they able to survive 2 Bonds, countless directors and keep writing for Bond. You can't tell me that there aren't better writers out there?
Michael and Barbara seem to be put great stock in keeping the Bond "family" together and I guess with the success you can't blame them. Just be nice to see a different writer(s) get a chance to have some fun with Mr. Bond. Look at how many times P&W have used the off active duty trope for their Bond. Look at all the personal angle stories we have got with them at the typewriters.
Geez I hope you are right @MaxCasino
