The early drafts of SP had a female villain - a CIA operative who Felix had sent undercover with Bond as a married couple, but who turned out to be a Spectre double agent. Irma Bunt was in the early SP drafts too!
Yeah, I remember, Charlotte King if I remember right. What a missed opportunity.

Another Villainess named King? Seriously? Please get new writers!

To be fair, I think this was Logan, not P&W.

An easy test for the next writer should be "have you seen most of the Bond movies before enough to come up with a unique name" I would think, P&W or Logan.

I feel the Bond series relies just a bit too heavily on having people 'double crossing' Bond, or indeed people turning out to be working for the villain, so I'm actually glad they didn't go down this route. Even in the SP we got there was C, but between Elektra, Logan Ash, Mitchell etc. it's becoming less of a twist in these recent Bond films.

If we're going to have a female villain, I'd prefer if they were played as straight as possible. No double crossing Bond, no sexual relationship between them.

Charlotte King, yeh, that's it - couldn't remember and didn't have Some Kind of Hero to hand. The book, I mean, not our friend and colleague on here! ;) The SP snow chase was supposed to end with Bond wounding Charlotte, which resulted in her having an 'iconic facial scar' for the rest of the film or something. There'd have been complaints about a perceived link between disfigurement and villainy, I suppose but, hey, 'back to Fleming' and all that.

James Bond producer wants to "surprise" audiences with 'refreshed' 007
"People can be outraged if they think James Bond is going off the tracks," says Michael G. Wilson.

Samira Ahmed, host, speaks to James Bond producer Michael G. Wilson and writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade

Broccoli had previously suggested that the hunt for an actor to replace Daniel Craig as Bond would not begin in earnest until work was underway on the script for the next 007 film.

"There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond," she said back in June.

Same article, but the comments section surprised me a little bit. It seems that possibly the general public is getting sick of Purvis and Wade. I do find it hypocritical that EON wants Bond to change, but hires (more or less confirmed at this point) people who have no surprises left for the character.

General public? More likely a fan.

Now that P&W are confirmed, here are some lines we'll be hearing in Bond 26:
"The world is changing, 007. We don't even know who the enemy is anymore."'
"You don't mind a woman taking charge, do you, Mr. Bond?"
"The prime minister considers the 00 program to be obsolete."
"Don't turn this into a personal vendetta."
"Yes, it's me, Mr. Bond, the shadow lurking in the recesses of your mind."
"You were supposed to be in Hong Kong 48 hours ago."

Either Bond, M or some random person will say that Bond is done in some way with MI6. It’s their main trademark!

Considering Bond said he was done being a spy at the end of Casino Royale published in 1953, I'd say it's a Bond trademark.

"Yes, it's me, Mr. Bond, the shadow lurking in the recesses of your mind."

    How about a dentally-oriented torture scene ?
Then the line could be changed up and freshened, ok ?

"Yes, it's me, Mr. Bond, the shadow abscess lurking in the shadows of your mouth."

And when Bond gets the bill from the dentist he can do a double-take. "What's this ? One shmillion, gazillion, babadillion, shwaba-daba-beebop-a-kazillion dollars ? I already knew you were crazy, but now I can see you're nuts !"

Yeah, considering he quits in OHMSS and bangs on about being thankful if he were fired in TLD it hardly seems out of character for him to leave a couple of times (and then come back each time).
One of those lines above seems taken from GoldenEye more than any of P&W’s films too.

I've been in vacation-related social media blackout for a month, so I'm hopelessly behind on everything, but when and where have Purvis & Wade been confirmed?

The men insist they have no idea if Barbara Broccoli and her half-brother Michael G. Wilson will call on their services again when the time comes to inch towards a screenplay for Bond 26. Broccoli has said that production work could still be two years away

"But both men are convincing when they say they have no inside information on where the story will be at the start of the next film."

Broccoli and Wilson have been on the Bond publicity trail on both sides of the Atlantic to mark the 60th anniversary. They've insisted they're nowhere near deciding on a new Bond actor, or who will write the screenplay... or how they can pick up with Bond apparently Double-O-Dead.

    Lol, I know…
  • Purvis and Wade always say they have no idea if they're going to be writing the next one, and yet, inevitably, they've worked on every script for the past 7 films, even after they publicly retired from writing Bond post-Skyfall. It would be a surprise if they aren't involved somehow in the next one.

Oh, I'm sure Barbara and Michael at least give them a call or a text with an idea now and again. Apart from Michael G. Wilson himself they are by a large margin the most experienced Bond screenwriters alive. Whether that's actually a qualification or a hindrance to "reinventing" Bond, is a different question.

Even better: Everything since 1985 has been a dream after that robot scared the living daylights out of Bond and Stacey and he slipped and bonked his head. Turns out contrary to all reports, Idris Elba is actually too young to play the next Bond! It's actually going to be Kenneth Branagh in heavy Roger Moore prosthetics.
  • Christopher Nolan in 2017: " You would have to be needed, if you know what I mean. It has to need reinvention; it has to need you"

Barbara Broccoli in 2022: "it’s a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is"

    Hmm...

No, everything since CR was a dream and when he wakes up, we see an older Brosnan as Bond frightened and he wakes up an older Samantha Bond as Moneypenny, telling her everything that happened while she consolates him.

You're not alone. I would also love to see a Nolan Bond film. The film would definitely have a long-lasting rewatch value.
