Yes, there is. If Nolan and Bond are like oil and water mixing why would you be interested in watching the inevitable incompatibility. Just because he is interested in doing a Bond film does not mean he has the right sensibilities for it.
This is your opinion. I don’t share it, and you may think I need to explain myself to you but I don’t.
By interviews regarding his comments on Bond, he seems extremely familiar and aware of the Bond films and how Eon conducts their productions. If he were to do Bond, he would have to be ready to work knowing it’s under the producers rather than him being the top boss. For example, he typically doesn’t have second unit for his films because he wants to be behind the camera at all times. Unless Eon actually agree to that (which I don’t see happening) he would have to concede to having second unit.
I’m not against Nolan having a stab at Bond. I like his Batman films, and if I happen to not like his Bond installment it won’t be the end of the world. I’ll have plenty of more Bond films to enjoy, assuming there’s any more in my lifetime. ;)
But I think that letting Christopher Nolan direct a Bond movie would be almost as bad as having James Cameron do it. Utter catastrophe. But after the producers allowed Hans Zimmer to score NTTD, everything seems possible in the future.
Which directors would you favour?
I don't know, but neither of those two, whom I both consider extremely overrated. Probably someone I haven't even heard of, since Sam Mendes did a great job on SF and failed on SP (maybe it was just the lousy script). Cary Fukunaga did great on NTTD, but we need a fresh start in every regard.
I wish they'd dump everyone involved with the franchise so far (that would include the producers themselves, and they certainly won't do that) to ensure that there will be a novel approach, which would have to start with a Casino Royale situation (not necessarily a remake) again and proceed from there. Picking the right actor and the right scriptwriters (no more P&W, please!) this might well last for the next 15 or 20 years.
The key for me is NOT trying to find a continuity with any of the preceding timelines. And I know they won't do it, but my favourite idea is still to revive Bond as a period piece...with CR taking place in 1953 and following up with all the other novels. Including TSWLM as it is, by the way...if they can arrange that based on the previous agreements.
I’m also all for clearing house but I have no problem with Broccoli and MGW.
I don't see her as M, for sake!
But a henchwoman? Maybe similar to May Day? Her picture in that article of The Sun shows that she got the looks, style and attitude qualified for a badass henchwoman, again a la May Day.
I mean Grace Jones isn't beautiful and she looked bizarre as May Day, yet she pulled it, so I could see Daisy May Cooper fitting for that kind of style.
She could be a henchwoman, or maybe even a Main Villain a la Blofeld.
But M? Heck no.
A lot of casting being “done” for a film without a director, script, or release date. 🙄
Without being privy to anything specifically (other than a cryptic warning), I'd suggest Bond fans settle in and let this process play out.
If a Deadline or a Variety or a Hollywood Reporter breaks something, it can almost be assured, that that's a message EoN is delivering through these channels.
If it's a tabloid, take with a big fat grain of salt.
They're not there anymore.
So whatever is happening, I'd suggest let the process play out-- coz, if we thought we had an inkling of what's up, I'd suggest that inkling has evaporated.
If one of the big three (DLH, HR, or Variety), breaks a story, great as they definitely were contacted by EoN.
If it's a tabloid, they're as blind as us, at the moment.
And a long time before that, I can remember the speculation about Bond 20 featuring Bond teaming up with the IRA or that the villain would be Bond’s own father. The latter did a lot of rounds for a few months in 2001-2, as I recall, until it became clear it was someone’s fan fiction script and not what became Die Another Day.
I'm intrigued.
Everyone has a price. I'd wager BB and MGW's is very, very high (they don't need the money), and that there would be some strings attached. And yet...Amazon has a lot of money. Who knows?
The speculation and excitement about nothing would have made a great episode of Seinfeld.
I really don't get tabloids. Why go with the seemingly outlandish claim that Daisy May Cooper will be 'M', when they could have gone with the far more credible claim that she will be the random British comedian featured in the film, as with with Hugh Dennis in NTTD or Omid Djalili in TWINE.
But if Cooper has the dramatic chops to pull off the role, then I wouldn't be opposed to some completely unexpected casting.
Silly season has begun again.
My question is, can the "journalists" even keep a straight face when they type these rumours up?
They probably just have an AI generate Bond rumours now.
LOL. I wonder if they are saving Shatterhand as an alias for Blofeld in a future film. I mean, they knew they only had Waltz for a day or whatever...
Could be. I don't want to see Blofeld back for at least another 40-years personally. I just remember reading that media outlets have been 'confirming' Shatterhand as the title of the next film as far back as the Brosnan era.
