Are you asking me, or others @DewiWynBond?

    That’s a neat way of being passive-aggressive, 😂.

Haha I'm just making a point, and disguising my observation as a monologue.

Right, like I said: you’re being passive-aggressive, @DewiWynBond , 😂. You obviously know no other way.

But if you’d like to make a point, you can always ask me, publicly, or via PM, without having to “disguise” your intent. After all, I was assuming, until now, that you’re of a mature, adult age and adults can disagree and discuss, without being passive-aggressive and “disguising” “observation as monologue” (whatever that means).

Anyways, if you truly wanted an answer, you could read the various threads and see I’m responding to Mendes. I’m not too polite about it anymore, but I’m directly responding.

But I fear that my observation about you, is that you didn’t really want an answer, you wanted to powder-keg whatever you think is going on, IMHO.

    Nice chatting 👍🏻.

@Mendes4Lyfe has an annoying tendency to speak for others, more so than others who have been guilty of it.

Good one @peter but I don't accept opinions.

@DewiWynBond … I don’t think I’ve ever engaged you in any conversation, none that I can remember.

And I doubt there will ever be reason for me to do so in the future.

So I’ll politely ask for you not to engage with me. It’s obvious you like to antagonize, and this really has no value in my life. So please, take your passive-aggressive games and play with someone who likes to waste their time as much as you do.

As I said, nice chatting, but I hope we both never have this displeasure again.

Good luck in life, Dewi! 👍🏻

@peter sure we've chatted before. You had a go at me and put me down.
  • I don’t see the need for any pointless drama on this website from anyone, and I include myself in that statement. Rather sucks the fun out of coming here sometimes.

Unless there are any serious issues worth flagging, I'd suggest we take the disagreements to PMs, and if not, ignore one another from now on. The latter's a really great way to avoid those you don't care to interact with. Either way, let's get back on topic.
  • I find it very difficult in a thread like this to not go over previously discussed ideas. But for the next actors era, I’d much rather we don’t get another overemphasized love story. Considering we’ve now had two of those in Craig’s tenure, I think we can give that trope a break for now.

I don't know whether it's just me not keeping up, but it feels like the talk of the next Bond has calmed down in the tabloids recently, perhaps they've got the hint that Bond 26 isn't coming anytime soon.

Considering the ongoing strikes, it'll be even longer before an announcement and start of production.

Having watched M:IDRp1 yesterday, I must say, wherever they go with the next Bond, it has to be sexy and stylish. Only Bond can have that sort of appeal. M:I films are wonderful, but the sexiness and the style, and the smoothness, and the exoticism and the slightly bizarre, must remain in Bond films. They make them stand out. I mean, drinking with a scorpion on the back of the hand, and escaping a komodo dragon, and having a flirtatious moment like in the Macao casino, or having a villain who bleeds from an eye, ... these things make Bond, well, Bond.

And having him sharply dressed is paramount, as well as having some sexuality distilled from the leading ladies. And sex. One must have sex. This Nolanesque, Cruisesque (and I like them both) tendency for frigid, sexless men and victorianesque prudes must go. I welcome Eva Green's cleavage, Andress's bikini, Xenia's over the top sexual paraphilia of death and her killer tighs, and Halle Berry's fig cutting innuendos, ..., over Hayley Atwell's buttoned up blouse and Rebecca Ferguson amicable hugs any day of the week.

Cancel me for saying this, for all I care, but Bond was created with sex on Fleming's mind, and with that prerogative. Sex, violence and exoticism. Take that away and you're left with Ethan Hunt. And I like Hunt, but he has no layers, no interest as a character besides his devotion to his friends, which is no different from that Fast and Furious awful family franchise. I'll say this again. Make Bond films with no shame for what they are. Thankfully, so far, EON has done so, even with some poor choices along the way.

    So, fingers crossed.

I wanna see you call Nolan a victorianesque prude after Oppenheimer.

You utterly missed the point of NTTD, @Mendes4Lyfe ...

And keep holding onto that "feeling"... Right now Hollywood and producers are more concerned about these strikes... And even more worried about the aftermath... There are going to be all kinds of delays and hold-ups and cancellations and projects that will never see the light of day.

Big tent pole films have started to book dates for their next releases... EoN hasn't... So keep clutching your "feeling"...

For the sake of clarity, in your opinion what was the point of NTTD? What point did @Mendes4Lyfe miss?

@CrabKey , I’ve spoken about NTTD and my thoughts on the themes so many times; in fact I was told I’m reading into it a little too much, 😂. It’s all on these threads, so…

And I do find it sexier to see Bond with a Lucia Sciarra, a Madeleine Swann (in NTTD, where she was given more to do than just pout and glare at Bond), a Vesper, an Octopussy, a Sylvia Trench (who wants to use Bond as much as he wants her), a Tatiana, and, of course, a Tracy... Real characters with layers, with secrets, with their own desires, as opposed to cartoon "strong women" like Christmas and Jinx...

Yes huge agreement there: they're way sexier than most Bond women because they show some intelligent inner life. Give me Lucia over Domino any day of the week, as she's an intelligent adult person making her own choices.

Really? Why? I mean, I love Nolan. But I do think he is a bit of a victorianesque prude, all brain. And I love most of his films just like that. And even though I think he wouldn’t be quite perfect for Bond, I’d like to see a Nolan Bond. I’d be really happy if he was announced as Bond 26 director. But I still stand by what I said about him being a bit frigid obe the sexuality field of things.

But you left me a bit curious with your comment. What can I expect? A torid scene from Blunt or Pugh? A single sex scene? A single passionate kiss, perhaps?

By 'point' I thought you meant a brief, succinct statement. I'll take a pass on looking back through your threads. Nothing personal; just too time consuming.

Michael G. Wilson once said, "We always start out trying to make another From Russia with Love and end up with another Thunderball". I wonder if he means they attempt to craft a lean thriller - or - something with more of an espionage feel to it.

I think a good and perhaps obvious approach for the next film would be to go back to an espionage/spycraft angle, against a Soviet-style or communist-style backdrop. By that I mean don't necessarily use Russia or other specific nation, but invent a red star state like they did in the PTS of Octopussy. Of course, that was an unnamed South American country modelled after Cuba.

We see a lot in the news espionage-wise, whether it be the invasion of Ukraine; Chinese spy balloons shot down over the US; ASIO's 'hive of spies' involving fake Russian diplomats etc. I'm sure a few of the stories out there can be combined to create an intriguing plot.

Weirdly I actually have slight spy exhaustion at the moment. The sheer, overwhelming number of spy shows and films coming out at the moment is kind of bizarre- they say there was a spy craze in the 60s but the one going on now seems to be slightly unnoticed. I watched Mission Impossible today, a bit of the new Jack Ryan show last night, the new Marvel series is a spy show with aliens, there's Slow Horses on Apple (plus that Ghosted thing which I'm obviously never going to watch), Netflix is pumping spy shows and films out, that terrible Citadel on Prime... I almost wonder if Bond should lean more on the adventure aspect or something, rather than any inter-country intrigue in an effort to differentiate.

I love the Slow Horses series, but apart from that one, all of those are that kind of super-tactical-spy-black turtleneck-utility belt- machine gun-kind of spy show I despise and I say that has nothing to do with a solid spy thriller like Bond should be. So yes, I quite agree, Bond should distance itself from that.

It’s time for a tense casino scene again, and some proper stylish espionage like the Gumbold safe scene, or something else, exotic and properly stylish with horns playing in the background ;)

Must admit I haven't been paying attention to any of the current spy shows out. I did watch Rogue Nation just last night as I'm a bit behind on the M:I series and wouldn't mind checking the new one out on the big screen. Those films are great but different beasts to what I want from Bond, spy-wise. More thriller, detective based, perhaps. Ideally, a touch of noir. I'm missing a bit of military action too. Been a while since we had army intervention in the Bond films, I think.

Absolutely. That bit I think a person like Nolan would nail it.

Yes, that may be a good differentiator, although I must admit I was never a big fan of the army vs. army finales.

Me neither. But it could work if done in a proper retro SAS type of intervention, and in contrast to a more stylish and suave portion of spy work.

Majesty’s had a pretty great battle at the end. Having the Union Course go against Piz Gloria guards was a nice, more smaller scale version of those giant army vs army battles.

Agreed about Majesty's! It's a great finale, I really liked that one! The whole raid and all.

Also, Octopussy with these female assassins versus Kamal Khan's men.

Then Thunderball in that underwater battle, if not for the editing, would've been better!

And the Liparus battle in the third act of The Spy Who Loved Me (although it's a bit plodded).

There's four at least, with that Army vs. Army finale in the Bond franchise, so, for me, seeing that kinda bit rare really, depends on the execution really, Majesty's and Octopussy got it right.

So, yes, I'd liked to see some of that.
