Well he is now, but he's always been running around :)
The idea that Moore and Connery's Bonds 'never had to run anywhere' feels contrary to my memories of them doing exactly that in many films.
Did they run? Genuine question, I simply can't remember either of them in a sequence which featured them running (though perhaps Connery in the FRwL helicopter chase at the end?). I know Roger was supposedly so ungainly when running that they made the decision never to show running, but it's actually been a really long time since I watched a Moore Bond.
Loads of times: just think of Connery whipping off the seagull in the opening of Goldfinger and dashing to the gas holder; running to the rocket pack in Thunderball, away from all of the guards at Palmeyra, getting out of Dr No's base, Bond running up the stairs to intercept Locke's car, to Octopussy's circus, along the top of her train, catching Zorin's blimp... he's an action character, he runs while others walk.
I feel like that's something the Brosnans did more, he had a very silly movie run.
You have Bond running in the Junkanoo festival to evade Fiona Volpe and his men in TB.
Then the scene I wish was included in the film: the rooftop chase in OHMSS with Bond and Phidian, but in the film itself, I do remember Bond running to chase Blofeld before the Bobsled chase begins or at least if we count him running to save Tracy committing suicide in the PTS.
Bond was also running in the LTK climax (either he's with Pam leaving the exploding Olympatec Meditation Institute, or when he's chasing the truck).
Regarding Moore; maybe the short sequence in TMWTGG where Bond is escaping from the karate school and running to the boat.
Pants in every 2 minutes 😅
He's wearing a safari suit.
Would make a quip after breaking that dry wall: "That's quite flat".
Do you like the Connerys at least? We're running out of possibilities here :D
That wasn't Connery, I can't remember if it's the behind the scenes doco on GF, or one of the audio tracks, but it was stuntman Alf Joint.
As for the OP train, either Paul Weston or Martin Grace, depending on who's doubling Sir Rog.
Indeed so, hence my comment above:
;)
It's all part of the charm for me too. But the point stands that the idea that Bond never ran in those films is a bit silly.
Oh well, one can dream...
I do, lol. I loved Moore as a kid, I just find his films have dated the worst for me. All the Brosnan films after Goldeneye were somewhat disappointing for me even at the time.
I see it completely different - I hope they return to more humor, gadgets and charm. Though I don't need a DAD or MR, of course.
Agreed.
SP maybe in the first half, but I don't agree with NTTD. The sequence in Cuba maybe, but that's probably for 10 minutes. Other than that, mostly a very melodramatic film.
They certainly had more of those moments than in his previous films. From SF onwards you also see more of the old classical Bond tropes sneaking in. They also start to become more fantastical, even if NTTD and to a lesser extent SP have a fatalistic side to them.
Honestly, I'm not really sure you can avoid those tropes when it comes to Bond - the gadgets, cars, otherworldly villains etc. I hope the next era will be more willing to lean into these things more than the early Craig films, albeit in a way which updates them and does something slightly different with them.
