    I thought it worked for that film. It could work for Bond too. I certainly wouldn't mind it. So far, I've always rather liked the outfits of our villains.

    Yeah. It did work for that film. Albeit this 17th century Bond villain won't be a joking around. He would be as serious as ever. He would simply be an enigma for Bond.

    Yes, as Purvis or Wade said before NTTD, the Bond villain has become a reality. While they might think that makes it harder to write new or non cliché Bond stories, most I think would disagree. There are numerous real life Goldfingers and Blofelds in the world now, unfortunately. However, many people can find ways to be creative (not just with Bond), but other great modern day characters too. The trick is not to make your parodies or satires feel forced or obvious.

    I would assume that whatever this secret project is, it has more to do with an opening in his schedule (where its Bond, or not).

    I think the word "Secret feels like a clue. "The Light Of Day" which sounds like a great Bond title, feels like another clue.

    For me "quite quickly" in Villeneuves terms is not November 2026. He completed Dune 2 in 2 years (sans delay), and until recently he made a new great film with stunning regularity. I just don't see him using the phrase "quite quickly" to refer to November 2026. That's a long time for someone like him.

    Actually, quite a good idea for a title. Easy to imagine the symbolism of a new Bond stepping into the light.

    Whelp, looks like Oppenhiemer just won 7 oscars, including best picture, best director and best lead actor.


    I would be amazed if neither Christopher Nolan or Denis Villeneuve is the director of bond 26 now. Snubbing one for the other is a hard enough call, but snubbing both would be madness.

    Yeah, I think it's either Nolan or Villeneuve. But Villeneuve looks more likely.

    Amazon are more than happy to throw 250 million if it means getting the next era off the ground, I'm sure. Apple just spent 700 million on Argylle, Napolean and Killers of the Flower Moon, I'm pretty sure they all lost money or just broke even.

    I can say Nolan being a huge Bond fan wouldn't mind taking a pay cut just to put his name on the list of Bond directors. Same as Villeneuve. Them two are the only big name directors, who keep talking about Bond. The two directors really love Bond.

    I never understood the “director X is expensive! EON cannot afford them!” argument. Bond movies are among the highest budget movies. EON can afford any director.

    Would love to see it upon reflection, but no way they go for either Villeneuve or Nolan if they want a "lighter" Bond. Not that they necessarily do, of course ...

    And they can always make a deal for a % of box office dollars. They can make the math work, providing that that’s what it’ll cost to get the director they want.

    I don't think EON's ever really had a director at their level of critical acclaim and personalized cinema before. I suppose Danny Boyle can be argued as such, but look how that turned out. It would instantly become a "Denis Villeneuve [or Christopher Nolan] James Bond film," arguably becoming as much about the director as the James Bond character.

    I think the fact that it’s a Bond film will outweigh the director’s name. The truth is as well a lot of casual viewers don’t know who Villeneuve or even Nolan are, even if they know their films (I always say it was surprising talking to non filmey friends of mine when Oppenheimer was released - Nolan was literally just a name in a poster to them. They really didn’t know or care who he was).

    It might create buzz amongst fans or film buffs, but not general audiences. It also doesn’t guarantee a successful film using one of these directors (financially or creatively).

    You don't think a new Bond film with a brand new Bond actor will be enough to do that? It's worked for them up to this point.

    Yes, but ... would they want to risk that overshadowing the introduction of a new actor? Might be risky ....
