OMG. Horrible hairstyles. Don't actors have money?

The shaggy surfer hair look was very popular for teenagers and young men in the mid-late 2000s. That and Craig's crew cut from the same era.

I would have had the same hadn't it been for ROTC in high school

In that case I look forward to seeing the Bond 7 audition tapes 20 years from now where the 2020s actors have mullets and middle partings.

Yeah, I agree @007HallY Craig does look Bondian. He's got some of Dalton in him, facially. In fact, in his screen test with the longer hair and comma, he looked like a blonde Dalton.

I love the Every Sean Connery Bond Honest Trailer. When they show Red Grant, they say "Daniel...Craig?

Funnily enough there's a shot of Dalton in TLD that always makes me think of Craig

They both have Fleming's Bond's cruel mouth, they have similar smirk.

    Thank you my friend @Venutius

@Jordo007 Love that shot of Tim in TLD. Arguably his best look as Bond.

The issue with Cavill I find is that he’s got the ‘look’ I guess (although to me he looks more like Action Man/Superman than what I’d say Bond is fundamentally) but between seeing him audition here and in films like UNCLE and Argyle, it always feels like him as Bond would have been a bit superficial and flat. It’s a very similar sense I get seeing ATJ in the 10 minutes of Kraven (and a good chunk of his other roles unfortunately).

It’s impossible to say who Cubby would have gone with in ‘05, but I’d say he did have a sense of that X factor needed for this role. After all, he hired Connery due to his walk and presence (both qualities BB saw in Craig incidentally), and he went with Moore who was a bit of a change from Connery. Even Lazenby had something to him in terms of natural charisma and presence even if he wasn’t the strongest actor (you can apply that to Brosnan too to a lesser extent, although I’d say he’s a much stronger actor).

I’d also say Craig looks more quintessentially Bondian than many give him credit for with his icy blue eyes and cruel mouth. So who knows ultimately? I’d like to think Craig was a strong enough candidate to make Cubby notice him.

People who are as good-looking as Cavill *sometimes* can get through life without trying too hard...

I don't care about the past, hire Cavill now.

He is the devil we know. ;)

He seems like a nice guy actually. Just not the best option For Bond. Nothing against him.

I think he's an actor with charisma. Without that (and some sense of acting ability) you wouldn't get the roles he's had, even if you're good looking. But ultimately it's just about finding the best fit for the role. Often he's not been that fit. It is what it is.
  • Cavil was much more fit for Superman than Bond imo. I’d be intrigued to see what he would’ve looked like as Bond however.

And this is bad in what way?

You seem to forget that during that time the world went through Covid, and then the writers strike, where most of the film industry shut down. It still hasn’t fully recovered yet.

But of course making movies is as easy as just dressing up what worked before and getting on with it.
What are EON thinking? It’s so simple.

One thing is certain... James Cameron won't be directing a future Bond film. He described Bond as a scumbag!
This is something that James Cameron has expressed concern over, describing his issues with the franchise and the scope of masculinity that is explored, saying, “The James Bond films are rotten at their core. The guy’s a womanizing drunk. He’s a complete scumbag, he really is. It’s male fantasy: I’m married and faithful but I’d really like to be that guy and have a different woman every other night. If you’re going to do a comedy, you don’t just send up the gadgetry. What you send up is the moral centere or the immoral centre of it. What would it really be like to try and live that fantasy? It ain’t going to work because that’s not who most men really are.”

    https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/the-one-character-james-cameron-hates-with-a-passion/

One of the main reasons I've always loved Bond is because of his masculine sexist traits. Connery and Moore's Bond was the archetypal sexist, womanising, yet gentlemanly, secret agent.

    Shut up Cameron

Plot of next film. Bond has to rescue a race of people who have been illegally displaced from their homeland by a despotic president who is trying to brainwash the world into thinking his country is great. Too far fetched ?

Yup, too far fetched. I think it's positively science-fiction to believe the U.K. government would go against America on this issue, even in secret. We ought to go for something more realistic, like Bond fighting Spectre werewolves on the moon.

But tons of MCU films! Since you value quantity over quality, you're in luck: they squeeze them out like milk from a fat cow. I'm told that the third Ant-Man film rocks. Have fun.

Yes, Fleming came up with the name Napoleon Solo and spent time during "The Man from U.N.C.L.E."s early development in New York with producer Norman Felton. Harry was so angry with Ian's involvement that he "twisted" Fleming's arm to quit the series and even changed the name one of the gangsters in "Goldfinger" to Solo in order to curtail the release of "Solo", the original title of the series, from being released.

Wow! I finally watched these audition clips. I think each one of these actors could've taken a few tips from George Lazenby, who showed up to his audition looking the part. That said, Rupert Friend dressed well. He very much reminds me of Joaquin Pheonix as The Joker. I kind of liked him, actually. He might've made a good post Craig Bond. Sam Worthington sucked. I can't sugar coat it. He sucked. We dodged a bullet there.
Cavill's was interesting, though I still think he should've gotten a Bondian haircut and wore something else. Anthony Starr I see more as a Felix in the John Terry mold.

We can't have quality if they don't make movies.

You can tell they were all nervous, and why wouldn't they be at that age. They didn't understand Bond's character, he's not that stoic and serious. It's like they forgot the smirk, the glint, the sparkle.

Funny that Craig was at the time of these auditions smoking a rollie and eating a bacon bap. Rebel.

We can't maintain quality if they rush production while also needing to find a worthy replacement for Craig and navigating a standoff with Amazon. But even setting all that aside, what’s the point of repeatedly posting, "Since No Time to Die, we've had..." as if that proves anything beyond the simple mathematical fact that it's been 3.5 years? It's the entitled fan's equivalent of "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?"

Well, Well, Well, .................finally some real news.

We are hearing from myriad sources that Amazon MGM Studios will be launching an international theatrical distribution arm for its feature slate moving forward.

The studio’s current foreign theatrical output deal with Warner Bros. ends at the end of this year.

This is a big step for Amazon, which has re-embraced the theatrical window since acquiring MGM. Their first big box office release was 2023’s Creed III, which had a franchise-record $58.3M opening and went on to gross $156.2M domestic and $276.1M worldwide.

With its own foreign distribution division, that puts Amazon MGM Studios in the pole position to handle international on its crown jewel franchise, that being Eon’s James Bond series. There were reports of late that 007 producer Barbara Broccoli was upset for myriad reasons with Amazon in regards to their approach to Bond. Perhaps Amazon MGM Studios having full hold on the global distribution of a future 007 movie would assuage some of Broccoli’s concerns. MGM Bond marketing vets remain in place Amazon MGM Studios that being Gerry Rich and Stephen Bruno. The last Daniel Craig 007 film, No Time to Die, was released before Amazon took over MGM; that pic’s foreign handled by Universal with $613.2M at the int’l box office and another $160M-plus U.S./Canada/
  • Any chance of a stealth Bond film suddenly being announced that’s already been shot? A bit like when Ghiostbusters Afterlife trailer was released when no one knew a film even in production . How cool would be that be? Pipe dream I know.

With how large-scale and extensive Bond film productions tend to be, it’d be pretty much impossible to pull it off. Afterlife itself didn’t do it either; the initial teaser merely confirmed it was in development and it wouldn’t shoot for another seven months. I think something along those lines would be much more doable.
