Holy heck would it be exciting if Campbell returned for B26, as a possible swansong to his career. The stuff of Legend. EON need a safe pair of hands they can trust and won't get in the way with their own ideas, so the idea isn't THAT far-fetched.
On a seperate note, I think the production of films should ramp up again once the issue with Amazon is resolved, which could happen quite quickly (who knows?). At the very least the financial side will be rock solid, Bond won't run out of funding anytime soon lol.
Martin Campbell is 81 years old. Ridley Scott is 87 and making big budget films so old age is not an issue if a studio has faith in the director but my guess is Eon will pick a younger director.
I've seen some YouTube videos saying Scott isn't as good as he used to be so maybe getting on a bit doesn't improve your film making skills! 🤔
We now know that Dune Messiah is filming this June to be released by December '26. I'd be amazed if Bond 26 wasn't Villeneuves next production, to be released in autumn '28, when it will be football fever here in the UK and the patriotism will be sky high similar to Skyfalls release alongside the London Olympics in '12.
I think that's a really good theory to be fair. The Olympics and 50th anniversary free press was massive for Skyfall, it's understandable that they'd look to replicate that.
“With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects. Therefore, Barbara and I agree, it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future,” said Wilson.
“My life has been dedicated to maintaining and building upon the extraordinary legacy that was handed to Michael and me by our father, producer Cubby Broccoli. I have had the honour of working closely with four of the tremendously talented actors who have played 007 and thousands of wonderful artists within the industry. With the conclusion of No Time to Die and Michael retiring from the films, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects,” commented Broccoli.

Well that's no good.
On the one hand will get Bond films probably more often, on the other they might lack in quality. We shall wait and see.
With today's news, to hell in a handbasket apparently.
The Bond film franchise as we have known it is officially dead.
Yes, it’s just sad. No one here defending the producers today. Not even me. Damn their decision. Period.
Long live James Bond.
:( :( :(
But, you know, James Bond will return, that much is certain now, so that's something.
On the flip side of that, I think what Bond might lose is its consistency. I don’t just mean in terms of quality (I know we complain about EON’s output, and the nature of it is not every film is a masterpiece, but it never had a flop and the last era especially was financially and critically successful). I mean more in terms of Bond’s ethos if that makes sense. Things modern EON hold close to them - maintaining certain traditions, their understanding of the character, how they approach these films etc. won’t automatically be at the centre of how Bond is made anymore (potentially anyway, we’ll have to see how this deal works in practice).
It won’t inherently mean we’ll get bad films. I can’t say one way or the other. Best case scenario we get directors/producers who come in briefly, have a deep understanding of the character and give us something interesting… but equally we could get something well off the mark and radically different interpretations of Bond from actor to actor (more so than there was already). I don’t know, we’ll see I guess.
I would have told them: "You earned it, you keep it, Old Buddy."
In an ideal world, would I have seen the Bond series have only 2 films in the last decade, both of which are of questionable entertainment value to an awful lot of people? Also no.
We were not spoilt by EoN. They were wonderful guardians of the Bond franchise, but they were not paragons of cinematic brilliance. The chances of Amazon making Bond into something awful (like they did with Rings of Power), is no greater than EoN making something awful (like they did with Die Another Day).
A dose of healthy pessimism I can get, but the mood surrounding this announcement seems unusually downbeat...
A lot of possibilities that wouldn’t have been on the table under Eon are now there, such as remakes, period pieces, etc. Whatever certainties that used to be under Eon’s watch is no longer the case.
Downbeat? You mean like the people who thought Craig is NOT Bond!
Good shout . OR “ Theres something you should know Bezoz. Loyalty is more important to me than money. “
