Brosnan wasn't under contract when he wasn't asked you return. He fulfilled his 4 picture deal and was then shown the door.

On Bond in Casino Royale:
"He's the new guy, and a nearly delinquent one at that, appropriating wild amounts of British cash to follow leads on a lark and breaking into Dame Judi Dench's flat to be a wiseass and give her lip."
I don't spend much time on this forum, but the last time I did so was around the time the script leaked and everybody was posting this type of information under the spoiler tag (were you living under a rock back then ?) Obviously the rules must've changed since.
Frankly I don't really see the point of having a spoiler tag if all you can post is assumptions of what may happen in the film. Maybe we should re-define what "spoiler" means ?
So there, no need to call me an idiot. I hope you will be able to enjoy the movie regardless.
Oh and...
Daniel Craig was in no mood for false promises.
Having wrapped production on the 24th James Bond installment Spectre in early July, just days before an interview with EW, the British actor was facing a question that has dominated the celebrity news cycle for the last few months. And as a reluctant self-promoter under the most optimum circumstances, he seemed none too enthusiastic about answering it.
Post-Spectre, Craig is contractually obligated to appear as 007 in just one more film. As bookmakers and industry observers feverishly handicap the actor’s replacement — Damian Lewis? Idris Elba? Tom Hardy? — I had to ask: How much longer can we reasonably expect him to play Bond?
“I can’t give you an honest answer at this point,” Craig said, reaching for a double espresso in an opulent London hotel suite. “It’s not that I’m trying to play hard to get. I’ve just given it no thought whatsoever.”
“This movie has taken up two years of my life. And I just need a break,” Craig continued. “I need to get back to normal life. I need to reintroduce myself to my family who are not best pleased with me. The idea of planning ahead — I’m not trying to be coy. People want an answer and I don’t have one.”
Longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli stops short of confirming the 47-year-old actor will carry on with the role beyond the as-yet unformulated and untitled next installment. But she calls Craig the “beating heart at the center” of the franchise and praised his ability to lure such high-caliber supporting actors as Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz (the villainous Oberhauser in Spectre) and French actress Léa Seydoux (007’s love interest in the film).
“Daniel has reinvigorated this character,” Broccoli told EW on the set of Spectre at London’s Pinewood Studios in May. “He’s made it contemporary, given it depth and resonance and humanity. The part is his. He’s so great and attracts so many people who want to work with him like Christoph and Lea, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw.”
On a number of threads, I've seen posters here say something to the effect that "Daniel loves to play mind games with the press."
OK. But that also means that Bond fans don't *know* which statements to take seriously and which not to do so.
So with Esquire, we have Craig saying he might not come back. With the Daily Mail (the ultimate source of Craig quotes recycled by The Guardian and other outlets), he says he'll play Bond as long as he's able. And, with Entertainment Weekly, somewhere in between.
The Bond machime is a unique, 1 of a kind circus that keeps everyone talking; all in all it goes to show the power and dominance of how big and how relevant Bond is. That being said, Craig and the other producers have just finished SP and then there's the huge promo/press tour that awaits them. The last thing on their minds at the moment is Bond 25 and of course, a bit of mystery/hype needs to be put in place as to what happens next without compromising the value and worth of the film that's about to be released.
Exactly. It is as reliable as the Daily Mirror reporting on football summer transfers.
What a lot of people still don't seem to understand is this: the media are not interested in facts - they just want exposure, to get their medium sold, be it online, on paper or otherwise... that is what brings in money via sales or advertising.
Whether the material reported is true or not is completely irrelevant.
EON will not let him go.
He has signed for a fifth movie.
In 2 years he will be eager to work again.
He will not resist a record amount of money to do a fifth. As co-producer he earns even more.
I have not heard one single convoncing argument why Spectre should be his last!
So calm down and enjoy.
Me neither, but my concern is that if Spectre really is the all out spectacle that it promises to be, the most expensive bond movie ever made etc. then i have no idea how they want to top it... and since craigs movies are a continuation, the next movie should be at least as big otherwise it will not be a fitting "final movie".
This could possibly be his Moonraker (without the sillyness) and it would be weird to end with a "for your eyes only". It would be easier to restart the clock with a new Actor and a new style in a smaller movie
I am just thinking storywise it would be better to end with the grandest movie possible.
Although a valid point think of Connery having had stopped at Thunderball or Moore at Moonraker!
I rather risk Craig's fifth being "only" as good as CR (assuming SP will top CR) than not having a fifth at all.
yeah i guess i would also go with another Craig movie, no matter what the outcome might be. Maybe if they keep Blowaltz around, it might make sense to give them another 'final' confrontation. I wouldn't mind if they put craig and waltz in a room and let them talk to each other for one hour
_______
Everyone is talking about the next James Bond.
Will he be black like long-time front-runner Idris Elba or ginger like new favourite Damian Lewis?
Hey, Pierce Brosnan has even floated the idea of a gay 007 - but NEVER a female one. What a dinosaur.

I agree and hope your right.
http://www.timeout.com/london/film/daniel-craig-interview-my-advice-to-the-next-james-bond-dont-be-shit
Too bad Dalton didn t give that advice.
I rather meant his comments at the end:
Can you imagine doing another Bond movie?
‘Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.’
You want to move on from Bond for good?
If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.’
Connery & Dalton definitely gave performances but Craig is the actor that immerses himself in the role and gives it more than any of them.
The way he says that we had to make it great irregardless of what personally people think of his films, show that the series is lucky to have such a committed actor playing the part and representing the series.
Agreed
On top of that, it saddens me that many so called journalists don't do proper research anymore. Instead, it's 'given' to them by criminals/hackers. Wonderful stuff off course these SonyLeaks. But it does make the profession more lame if you ask me. And perhaps using those leaks brings about some ethical questions about when journalists should use criminally obtained source material or not.
All I can hope for is that "SPECTRE" will be an even bigger critical success as its predecessors "Casino Royale" and "SkyFall". In the end the longlasting negative repercussions will fade away.... And for me right, I just hope some really interesting, original, unique questions are being aimed at the man who plays 007 right now. What about: "Was there actually some good, creative advice from some loyal Craig-fans that you as a co-producer of "SPECTRE" really could use? Or...don't you care at all about the more positive fans; the fans who admire you?"
I could not agree more. And every Bond fan in their right mind should hope that this franchise gets bigger or at least keeps the momentum, with or without Craig.
I like his Humor and i genuinly believe he really wants to push this franchise as far as possible, even though some of his comments might seem a bit schizophrenic at times.
i guess he really hates the spotlight and being asked the same questions over and over.
