A lauded Bond making out that this could be his last? Sounds like a reason for everyone to bust a gut to see him on screen for the 'last time'. Watch those opening week figures destroy the UK Box Office.

I'm starting to think exactly the same :-).

Yea but Craig damages the BO with reckless ramblings then gonna be hard to finance B25.

To coin Craig's phrase , he's f'ng up Bond bad.

I doubt that would ruin the Box office. He's bringing attention to himself so everyone can forget about Elba and Damian Lewis trying to steal that attention to promote themselves. Neither of them will be Bond so they should just keep their mouths shut about it.

Suspect the timing of am interview given in July to be a bit of PR. Can't understand why it was held until now.

I don't think it will have a positive impact on the boxoffice unless it was a positive decision. If Craig was stepping down in good graces then maybe.

SP will make a billion, Craig will be back for Bond 25. You can all relax and breathe easy.

Yeah no need for the Pre Bond movie jitters. Bond has always beats the competition.

    Spectre has nothing to fear.

Only no news is bad news.

But Craig's reputation took a heavy hit today. It's in virtually every newspaper. Even the serious respected ones. At least in the German-language region. It even made "breaking news" in the app version of Switzerland biggest newspaper.

And if respected German newspapers are feeling forced to have headlines like "he rather commits suicide than doing another Bond" I begin to worry. (I can provide links if anyone is interested).

But then, if people are now getting convinced that Spectre is Craig's last, and after those media reports I'm sure most will be, they will go and see Spectre in hordes and make it the most successful Bond ever.

I like to add that this Idris Elba nonsense is not a worldwide topic. I believe this is a "British" problem. At least I've never seen anything about it in German, French or Spanish language newspapers.
Maybe some Americans or other nationalities on this forum can give some insights about that.

Yea that's what happened when Lazenby quit.. people went in hordes to see that film.

yes I know a bit different. Lazenby was an unknown and not a trained actor but still not good positive press.

My fear is that people may associate that as a statement of the quality of the film as opposed to the requirements of the shoot.

"Craig doesn't want anything to do with Bond why should we?" "Yeah f that I'm going to see Hunger Games."

  • Don’t you guys think this will blow over in a few days, the way every one of these “non-headline” stories does? I remember mere weeks before X-Men: Days of Future Past came out, some story came out about how director Bryan Singer attempted to rape a young boy. Everyone thought it would affect the box office for the movie, but it still raked in a boatload of cash and he moved right on to directing the sequel. It was just a tabloid story that went away a few days later when the next “story” came along. I realize that the star’s comments are a bit different than a director’s comments, but still. This is all tabloid rubbish, taken from a interview given months ago, and I would hope that most people will realize that.

For what it's worth Jonathan Ross says "as I understand it" Craig will play 007 in two more films:

TV special weekend after next!!!! Excellent!! :-bd

Have to say their appears to be alot of unnecessary panic on this thread!

    I genuinely love Craig's humour...

Interviewer: "Who would you like as the next Bond?"

Pierce Brosnan: "Elba would make a good Bond. Colin Salmon also. May the best man get the job..."

    Daniel Craig "Look, I don't give a f**k"!

You get brutal honesty and emotion from Daniel Craig and I think it makes a refreshing change from the bog standard answers we hear every day from politicians, actors, sports stars etc.

This will indeed blow over, no way it will negatively affect box office and as for his personal reputation, I think we all know what Daniel Craig would say-"I don't give a f**k"!

The Bond series has faced a lot of tough crap over the past 50 odd years that has threatened its survival and now because Craig is trolling the media, SP's BO is now compromised??? :)) =))
The ghost of @Panchito lives on.
  • I for one love Craig's "Say what I feel" attitude. It's refreshing. And In the big picture, this is nothing. I polled many people at work about this today, and no one had even heard the quotes. This is a nothing story, gents (and ladies) - as it should be.

I'm not a big social media user.

However, when I see a link on the 'front page of yahoo' saying the current James Bond wants to slit his wrists rather than make another film, it can't be good marketing for EON and Sony, especially since Bond is reaching a far greater audience globally these days, and also young fans.

It's rather stupid of him, no matter how he feels about it. I wonder now whether EON intentionally muzzled him at the SP press release in December because they knew he may have accidentally said something silly then.

Even if he's having fun with it, I'm sure this wasn't helpful......and he's co-producer too.

    Oh well..

Poor DC...this is why he dislikes the press, and who can blame him? Everything he said was twisted around.

Some moaning old f-ers on this site. How about judging the film rather than the plethora of misrepresented journalistic gubbins?

Well, given that Sam Smith didn't make much impact here in France, I think that one can say that yes, all these "I'd rather commit suicide" headlines are the first "promotion" of SPECTRE here... And this, despite Seydoux and Belluci, who have yet to appear on some big radio or TV show to talk about SPECTRE. The problem is that they may have to talk about this topic then ?

I almost feel like a lot of people are obsessing over bad marketing, bad theme songs, and bad comments made by DC instead of honing in on the fact that a brand new James Bond film is merely weeks away.

I'm not worried about the film ...excited about that. Worried about the impact if any.

It won't impact the film. The general public don't care about interviews.

Indeed. Almost as if they had an agenda. I couldn't care less if DC said he wanted to blow up an orphanage. I'm just excited to see what he's done with SP.

Yes to what both of you said. The amount of whining, complaining, worrying and all sorts of negativity around here is pretty amazing. It's not that everyone needs to love everything and it's not that this should be a land of rainbows and unicorns, but geez...
