"Special features" like those showcased in the Target DVD should not be a 'bonus' or cost extra at all, they should be on each and every home release of the movie.
It's nothing new anyway, @Creasy47. All these grand "special features" are nothing more than twenty minutes of stuff we've already heard/seen previously. All the features seem to want to focus on are the PTS and the money burning that was the Blofeld HQ explosion.
I'd much rather have features that explore things we haven't already seen dozens of times over, like a really extensive look at the choreography behind the train fight or a look at some of the literary or thematic inspirations behind the film, as we know there was a good deal. Even more interesting would be a look back at the last three films and how and why they were connected in the way they were.
But why have that when we can watch Sam jump with glee as they detonate millions of dollars of explosives in a self-indulgent display? Why bother with showing new content when you can just compile reedited clips of the PTS sequence for the twelfth time? It's certainly the lazy route to go, but I guess this is just the world we live in now. It'd be great to have what the Bond series used to have: releases on the disc that truly made you feel like you were part of the production with their in-depth behind the scenes features.
It's a shame that's the state of things these days: prices go up and we're given more and more barebones releases that don't justify the price tag. Is it still confirmed that we aren't even getting a commentary? What gives?! That should be a requirement for every major blu-ray/DVD release.
EDIT: Just checked, and it'll have the video blogs and a gallery, which is otherwise known as "stuff we've already been given for free online." What a shame, what a shame. No excuse for that.
There's really no excuse for it, and it goes to show just how barebones the release truly is. Thankfully, I loved the movie, so the price tag is still acceptable to me.
I asked for this several times: But WHERE is it stated that there are no commentary tracks on the upcoming BluRay release??
So far, the actual disc content information is rather scarce, and only in the past days I got to find more info about it...

Video blogs and a gallery are all that's included.
Or Microsoft Paint, on a really, really, really old desktop computer.
That's one of the most deliciously astute sentences I've had the pleasure to read as of late. Hats off to you, @RC7. You are keeping the sacred academic language of the world alive with great fervor.
Is that right? Poor DVD owners, they can't even get moving pictures on their releases. Is this all part of the disc industry's plan to make them Blu-ray converts or something?
"Sorry, you peasant, if you want moving images on your luscious movie menus you must convert yourself to the Lord that governs all entertainment, Saint High Def. Otherwise, you will live in the squalor of low pixelation and sparse resolution until you arrive at your proper senses."
Excellent!
@dragonsky Yep.
Here's an overview of the menu's from the previous three Bond films.
"SKYFALL":
"QUANTUM OF SOLACE":
"CASINO ROYALE" (Menu design "DeLuxe Edition: 2-Disc BluRay & 3-Disc DVD"):
"CASINO ROYALE" (Menu design "Collector's / Standard Edition: 1-Disc Bluray & 2-Disc DVD"):
DVD quality is less than blu-ray quality? You don't say...
Unless you're stating that the DVD menu is actually different from those on blu-ray, though I can't compare that possibility as I haven't bought a Bond movie on DVD in a long, long time.
In general design there's usually not too much difference between BluRay and DVD disc's. But as BluRay can carry more gb's of data, the actual graphics with BluRay disc menu's usually are more refined than those of DVD disc's. Thus the final menu make-up always slightly differs between BluRay and DVD. The DVD menu's being more simple...
Having said that, the above "SPECTRE" menu looks like that from a DVD. And @Marketto007 just confirmed that the "SPECTRE" menu design comes from a DVD medium.
But.....am I right if I say you will be buying the first ever Bond film on BluRay with "SPECTRE"? :O
I believe the SP menu is, indeed, from the DVD. Marketto stated that elsewhere.
And no, my previous comment was typed too hastily, and I meant to say that I can't compare the two because I haven't bought a Bond movie on DVD in a long while, not a blu-ray. All I own now are blu-rays of the Bond films.
Same, though I will have complaints if a release is barebones (or lacking in a certain way), or if it seems to be a lazy release in general. Still, at the end of the day, I'm buying the movie FOR the movie, and as long as the audio and video quality is superb and the movie plays without a hitch, then I'm satisfied. Not blown away by the features and design, as usual, but having SP on blu-ray will be good enough for me.
