The sounds of 007

I thought I'd have a go at a new starter, just a one off probably, but just to say I've done it :bz

This has maybe been said before but I'm not going to wade through archives

in any event

What was your favorite and worst theme tune of any bond (Never Say never again apart)

right now and at this very moment I'd be looking at Lulu's The Man with the Golden gun, Wing's Live and Let Die, the instrumental in OHMSS, Casino Royale, Nancy Sinatra's You Only Live Twice, Duran Duran's A View to a Kill and Sheryl Crow in TND

but I can't say which one was best, I'd pick one and tomorrow it would be something else and I change my mind, but they were all the ones that I could sit easily through the credits with the volume on

worst ones (and there's been some criminal efforts)

Carly Simons TSWLM, Sheena Easton in For Your Eyes Only, Madonna's Die Another Day and the most recent effort from QOS

these are just my opinions, how do other people feel about it, there must be one or two themes that made an impact

Best to me will always Goldfinger . It IS the sound of Bond. I like your favorites selection, but I much prefer the Arnold/Lang "Surrender" to Crow's song.

Worst is Die Another Day. Funny how that matches my rankings. As bad as AWTD is, it still beats DAD's techno crap mixed with Madonna's very unmemorable effort both vocally and melodically. Nobody Does It Better and FYEO are great tunes in my book, though.

The Man with the Golden Gun theme as one of the best and 'Nobody Does It Better' one of the worst? :O

    My top three favorites:

    1) You Know My Name - Chris Cornell
    2) Nobody Does It Better - Carly Simon
    3) Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey

My bottom three (one being the worst):

    1) Die Another Day - Madonna
    2) All Time High - Rita Coolidge
    3) The Man with the Golden Gun - Lulu

I'm sure you can see why I'm quite surprised with some of your choices, @Baltimore_007 ;-)

Perhaps we should re-name this thread into The Theme Songs of James Bond or something like that. Not that I want to be a spoilsport, but I find the contemplation of the sounds or sound effects in Bond films intriguing, but this wouldn´t be the right thread for it.

    As for theme songs,
I think Madonna´s song was cool but rather inadequate for Bond in general.
I think GE was pretty good but sounded like a desperate attempt to remind of Shirley Bassey. License to kill also makes that impression, yet it´s a much better song and performance.
I don´t see how anyone can dislike such a brilliant song as AWTD. And it is very appropriate for the film.
