    Must have missed Patrice.

As for QOS. They mentioned Greene & the title sequence pays homage to it.

The freefalling is homage to QoS, while the octopus-bound couple are Bond and Severine in SF.

Pretty OHMSS-like in terms of the content for the title sequence, and the theme song was just.... weird. There were parts where it felt like it synergized with the actual footage on the screen, but most of it just doesn't line up.

A textless version of the first half of the title sequence in HD:

I immediately thought of Severine too. My best guess though is she's supposed to symbolize all of the women Bond has lost to Spectre.
  • GoldenEye's opening titles have always been my favorite, but Spectre beats it by far.

Here's a great article from ArtOfTheTitle.com on why there should be a "Best Main Title Design" category at the Oscars:
    http://www.artofthetitle.com/news/the-oscar-question/

Even Daniel Kleinman thinks it's a good idea :-).

Of course there should be a category for main title design, and of course if you ask a main title designer he/she will be in favor of introducing such a category. But what about those directors that do not care about main titles? All other Oscar categories apply to almost every film made, but only a few use elaborate main titles. In this view it seems wrong to introduce a prize for a minority of films.

Perhaps making it an Oscar category will be an incentive for directors who don't make elaborate title designs. I say a category is also needed for 'Best Practical Stunts,' which could also be called 'Automatic Oscar to Tom Cruise When He Has A New Action Movie Out.'

If I reason like that, especially short films and short documentaries would always be ignored by the Oscars, regardless of their fine short screenplays, short technical effects, and short animations. BUT, they are award with an Oscar in a separate category as well.

And obviously, a "Best Main Titles" Oscar would still be a rather secondary technical category. So no worries. Let this category come please.

The song improves with the title sequence. And the song drags the title sequence down.
  • I made some Ultra-HD (.tiff files) desktop backgrounds from the Craig-era main title sequences for everyone in here. All of them have a specific theme:

One point that I think has been missed in these titles is what I think is an additional homage to OHMSS. That big awkward homoerotic shot of shirtless Craig getting groped reminded me of something...

    http://thejamesbondsocialmediaproject.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/OHMSS_poster1.jpg

    This just doesn't seem accidental.

    What is homoerotic about it?

It may very well be coming strictly from my end, then! ;-)
