Connections between every actor's fourth Bond films? (SPECTRE spoilers)

Thought it might be interesting to see if we can find any connections and common themes between every Bond actor's fourth film - Thunderball, Moonraker, Die Another Day, Spectre.

-All four generally 'go bigger' than anything else in the actor's era

-Torture scene of sorts in all of them (TB on the rack, MR in the centrifuge machine, DAD in North Korea, SPECTRE head drill)

Maybe that's it? There are a couple of almosts:
-We almost get a 'Bond in a parade' connection but DAD lets us down there.
-Clinics in 3/4 of them, with Moonraker letting us down.

3 of them were their respective actor's highest grossing films (unadjusted for inflation).

It remains to be seen if SP can do the same.

All are worse than their third.

I can't necessarily say DAD is worse than TWINE, but they are both pretty awful.

    All 4 are certainly disappointing....

Nah, DAD is definitely worse than TWINE.

These films were all pretty big on effects and the like, and thus they had mass appeal which led to them having the highest gross out of each respective actor's Bond films. I doubt SPECTRE would beat Skyfall, though.

I really don't think Moonraker is worse than TMWTGG, nor do I reckon Spectre (from what I know) is going to be worse than QoS.

Spectre is not disappointing - it's great. I guess it's all just a matter of perspective.

All four have some part of the film set in the Americas

    TB - Bahamas & Miami
    MR - Brazil & USA
    DAD - Cuba
    SP - Mexico

All four have part of the film set in London

All have aircraft in their PTS if you deem the jetpack to be aircraft.

    All have helicopters in them

    All four feature watch gadgets

    TB - Geiger counter watch
    MR - Explosive in watch
    DAD - Watchlaser
    SP - Explosive in watch

All four have aeroplanes in them

Obviously, it's all a matter of opinion. I was disappointed.

    And holy quintuple post, Batman

@ForYourEyesOnly I used to feel that way too, but the more I watched them and thought about it, I found more redeeming qualities in DAD than TWINE.

I'm in agreement. TWINE is worse than DAD imho. In many ways.

No, DAD is the worst Bond film ever.

No, DAD is the worst Bond film ever.

Do you not know what imho means? Serious question.

In case the answer is yes: In my humble OPINION
  • None of them are particularly good either.

OK thanks for the input but can we dispense with the opinions about which ones are good or bad? There are plenty of other threads for complaining. I was looking for specific common scenes or links, like the watch gadget answer above.

I almost said they all have car chases but there was none in Moonraker.

Aren't there boat rides in all four?

First I feel that SF was TB and SP is YOLT, there are so many things speaking for that theory.

But comparing the 4th movies I come up with this:

    TB, MR, DAD, SP
all went bigger, bolder, better compared to their predecessors.

TB certainly wasn't better than GF
MR was probably not better than TSWLM but not by much (IMO)
DAD was certainly better than TWINE not matter what you all say.
SP puts SF to shame on every level.

TB didn't try to copy GF
MR copied TSWLM on almost every level
DAD didn't try to copy TWINE
SP didn't try to copy SF

TB was more successful than GF
MR wasn't more successful than TSWLM
DAD was more successful than TWINE

None of the four TB MR DAD or SP got higher ratings of critics or audience on RT than their predecessors (except DAD got higher critic ratings than TWINE)

MR was a continuation of sorts to TSWLM
SP is a continuation of sorts to SP

All four actors were the smoothest and coolest and most self-confident in their fourth movie!
