'Bond is going through one hell of an action packed adventure, working closely with a Chinese agent (Michelle Yeoh) in order to find out why the British and Chinese are being played against each other.
Finally, he comes face to face with Rupert Murdoch, I mean Elliot Carver, who explains his demented plan: if Britain and China go to war, he can get broadcast rights inside China.
Read that out loud. Then shake your head.'
'Die Another Day, it put Pierce Brosnan in his Bond grave and caused the whole creative team to head back to the drawing board.
Let’s go down the list:
a) Madonna theme tune
b) Korean man has his face changed to that of a smug white British toff
c) Invisible car
d) Ice Palace
e) CGI
f) Madonna cameo
g) Rip off of Diamonds of Forever
h) Hilariously inconsistent laser beam power from satellite
i) Halle Berry
j) He’s doing it all to take over South Korea
k) Makes no sense at all
l) LOOK AT HIM HE’S GOT DIAMONDS IN HIS FACE. WHAT KIND OF DOCTOR WOULD LEAVE THEM THERE?
I can't say that I'd want to see an outright remake of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but I think that it might be worth bringing Tracy back to the series and working her into an original story that ultimately ends up with an ending similar to that of OHMSS, so that it can lead into an updated, but faithful version of You Only Live Twice. From there, I wouldn't mind them loosely remaking The Man With the Golden Gun and feature Bond going up against a highly trained assassin.
Both films essentially set out to de-construct Bond, in DAD we see Bond get tortured for 14 months and in SF he dies. The goal then of the film is see Bond rebuild himself and become Bond again. While DAD established this, it quickly forgot the idea once Bond got out of prison and he was his old self again in moments while SF improved on the idea by having Bond gradually become 007 again throughout the film.
There are so many examples throughout the series where the filmmakers are taken key story ideas from previous films to essentially be considered loose remakes.
Moonraker is very similar to TSWLM (less a remake and more of a lazy sequel - similar to to the second Hangover movie by just repeating the beats of the previous successful film)
AVTAK is a remake of GF
I agree but would be even better with proper actors!
No. It's time to consider an adaptation of a John Gardner or Raymond enson novel. It's time to do something new.
Having said that the Vesper story of did it but it could be Craig's bond finding his mojo to love again...I'd like him to do Thunderball..as well.
Fassbender will be too old by then.
A lot of Bond look to previous ones for--shall we say--inspiration. YOLT/TSWLM is the most obvious, but there is also GF/AVTAK, DAF/MR/DAD, as well as more subtle ones like FRWL/TLD.
I think SF's billion dollar haul could easily be surpassed by this.
Last time I checked, Fleming was dead!
And he was dead when they made the film of Spy Who Loved Me in the 1970s but they still didn't go down that route then so I suspect they wouldn't try doing it now either.

:-)
Even if he had allowed to use whatever they wanted of TSWLM... I don't think it could be adapted faithfully. I actually love the novel, but it is too atypical of other Bond novels and way too small scale for a movie. Bond appearing half way through the film? The Bond girl the main focus? Two low level thugs as villains? A lenghty time spent on the Bond girl discovering love and sex and trying to make a living? There is a great stuff for a movie here, ironically. Even a great movie. But I don't see a Bond movie.
Then again I thought of Moonraker as Bond didn't venture into space in the novel, but it's such a classic movie release, I don't think they could better it if they tried, so it's better left as we remember it
They've already adapted Moonraker in part with GoldenEye and Die Another Day. GE is worthy; DAD is not. There are still some elements (most notably Gala Brand & the ending) that they could adapt. I wouldn't support it during Craig's era, since he needs to get the girl sooner or later.
Sure, the producers can use unused elements from the novels. But no more than that.
Mod edit: Watch the language.
There are also elements of the novel MR in SF, although there are more of YOLT and TMWTGG, I think.
At this point, only hardcore Bond fans would be upset. I don't think the majority of film goers would be the least bit bothered. Fleming's material is far superior to the original stories concocted by screenwriters. TB has been done twice. CR is in its third iteration.
Sandwiched between YOLT and DAF, though not perfect, OHMSS is a miracle.
