Unless you believe the codename theory, but that's a flawed theory which doesn't make sense, whereas the timelord theory sounds perfectly logical.
Bond exists on multiple planes, in multiple/alternate dimensions and in different time-streams, yet always destined to be a heroic figure. He may look different on these various planes of existence, but his soul and spirit remain unchanged.
Goodness me, James Bond isn't real! Much as we would like to think otherwise, the character is a fantasy -- at least these days, anyway. Whether there ever was a real character or not is moot because everyone involved with such a character would now be dead, or are simply not telling.
But Fleming changed that somewhat later on. If he didn t take it all very seriously, why should we?
I've always thought the series worked best as standalone movies, each completely removed from the last. This creates a "serialised" effect that allows Bond to be something more than just a normal man. Bond doesn't have to adhere to normal laws of the universe, he is larger than life, the quintessential hero.
