Do you think that James Bond is over 90 years old?

Last year, according to the scotsman.com site (archived, 11 years ago), James Bond was born on November 16, 1924 in Glencoe, Scotland. If he aged normally he would be over 90 years old.

He doesn't age normally, though, he's a timelord. How else would you explain the fact he's got multiple faces and looks 45 even though he should be 90?
Unless you believe the codename theory, but that's a flawed theory which doesn't make sense, whereas the timelord theory sounds perfectly logical.

It's really just a perpetual renewal of the character in his various forms - literary, cinematic, comic strip etc. It was the same thing with Billy Bunter, as O.F. Snelling acknowledged in 1964. It's certainly nothing to get your knickers in a twist about! ;)
  • James Bond is an Eternal Champion (a la the classic fantasy/sci-fi writings of Michael Moorcock).

Bond exists on multiple planes, in multiple/alternate dimensions and in different time-streams, yet always destined to be a heroic figure. He may look different on these various planes of existence, but his soul and spirit remain unchanged.

Goodness me, James Bond isn't real! Much as we would like to think otherwise, the character is a fantasy -- at least these days, anyway. Whether there ever was a real character or not is moot because everyone involved with such a character would now be dead, or are simply not telling.

In the early books, he bought his first car in 1934 and joined the Secret Service in 1938. That doesn t gel with him being born 1924.

But Fleming changed that somewhat later on. If he didn t take it all very seriously, why should we?
  • Have to say, Daniel Craig looks PRETTY good for a 90 year old man. Must be all that cardio. All jokes aside though, Bond is ageless and timeless, always in the present and changing as time goes on but never aging.

I've always thought the series worked best as standalone movies, each completely removed from the last. This creates a "serialised" effect that allows Bond to be something more than just a normal man. Bond doesn't have to adhere to normal laws of the universe, he is larger than life, the quintessential hero.
