  • Georgie is thinking about repackaging, re-imaging, and cgi-ing American Graffiti. Also re-releasing it in 3-D.

Lucas is up there on my special list of cinematic screwer-overs. He's placing right up there and on his way to passing Joel Shumacher and Michael Bay. Good thing I hate Star Wars or I'd have given fandom up after seeing what he's done.
  • Rewatched the first half of Crystal Skull last night (until Indy and Mutt found the skull in Peru) and really enjoyed it. Great sense of mystery, I like that Mutt is a competent (and smart) character, and La Beouf and Ford have good chemistry together. Also, it was nice to see Ford lighting up and enjoying himself onscreen again, and the change to the 50's was interesting. I'll watch the second half today.

I read the Darabont script some time ago and didn't like it. Other than a better role for Marion it didn't really have anything going for it and read like fanboy fiction to me - was there a betting pool about how many references they could cram in?

My take on the other films may be different than most people - I thought Raiders was a stone cold classic, one of the great American films of all time. However, I thought the other two were just okay - some good moments but overall just okay.

As for the remastered (again) Star Wars films it's an easy solution - just don't buy them.

I once watched the original theatrical A New Hope on a two-disc Special Limited Edition, and it was just spectacular! I was blown away by all the things that were different from the later editions. For a kid who grew up on the old VHS 1997 Special Editions, the original theatrical version was so far from what I had remembered. And of course, I loved the fact that Han really did shoot first!
  • i was so excited bout the release date coming as the sets were heading to blue ray but then i saw the new stuff and what killed me was the one where he had added no to what is one of the best scenes in all of movies and defenitly in star wars when darth saves his son from the emporer, now im not getting the new movies and i know im not the only person whos not going to buy the series. i didnt mind the last special edition changes but this wassomething that went way to far, i cant stand what he has done

On Monday, I bought A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back on old 1990 VHS tapes produced by CBS Fox, and they are the original theatrical versions, which is why I got them. In A New Hope, I was surprised to see that the scene with Jabba the Hutt and Han, and the scene with Luke and Biggs before the Battle of Yavin weren't in the original! There was also some altered scenery that was drastically different from the Special Editions. Some of the changes made to the special editions I was pleased with, like the two added scenes mentioned above, and some better looking scenery, but then again, there is a level of nostalgia and originality that was pretty much shredded in the newer editions.

I don't mind some of the newer changes, because honestly, some of them have improved the movies, but then again, there are the few that really weren't necessary whatsoever.

  • sums it up fan boys - for me I was never into star wars - star trek for me baby. But this is s fantastic bit of writing by all those concerned and I peed myself watch it, just too funny.

    ;))

I know I wont buy this set. I already own the special ruinitions. Don't want to give any more of my hard earned money to Mr. Lucas.

Sad I've already overwritten the originals on vhs. :(

While I find the subtitles somewhat funny I can understand German, and it is hard to combine reading and understanding what they are actually saying.

Must be funnier for those who hear the language and don't understand it at all.

Even the studio heads said he shouldn’t have put kid Anakin Skywalker in any of his movies.

Wow, what an old thread this is. :D I was still in my twenties then... But we have another Star Wars thread. Maybe you guys agree that we shut this one down and continue our SW talk over there?
