SPECTRE, most fun Bond adventure in decades?

This discussion is strictly about the "fun factor" of this film.

For me, seeing it twice so far, SPECTRE is permeated with a sense of fun, not quite seen this much since the 1980s. Daniel Craig's masterful performance as 007 harkens back to the wit and light humor of classic Bond. It just feels FUN!

One might think that following the dark of SKYFALL, that this film woudn't feel like this, but it has a sense of playfulness and energy that i love!

Understood. The grittiness and Vesper death, though.. Casino Royale is amazing! It just isn't quite as light and breezy as SPECTRE. :D

I wanted to make a distinction. This is about sense of "fun" and adventure. Not a "best" topic. Lol!

I think it is the most fun of the Craig era.The Brosnan era in my opinion had the most fun adventure in decades with TND.

I totally agree agree and it's a good point. SP is highly derivative and perhaps in some respects a bit lazy. But I agree that it's also actually the most purely enjoyable Bond film for several decades. Not since TLD have I sat back and just enjoyed a Bond film this much.

I don't go to watch a Bond movie to be be pummelled with complex thematic motifs or emotion - that stuff is done much better by other directors and in other movies. I go to watch Bond to be totally immersed in pure unadulterated movie entertainment for two hours. And SP pretty much delivered on that front for me.

Yeah. Maybe do! It is just that with SPECTRE, it has an attitude reminiscent of the Sir Roger Moore ers, and bits of Sir Sean Connery in the 60s. :D

TND is definitely the most enjoyable of the Brosnan films and the only Brosnan one that I might ever countenance rewatching. But SP is on another level entirely.

I found the early parts of CR (up to the ball beating) to be the most fun I've had during Craig's run. Humour and action all combined brilliantly. Ended on a downer but that's what it is. Prior to that it was definitely TND which was high octane old fashioned Bond fun.

Yeah! The Living Daylights is another grand example of a fun Bond adventure!

    Great post!

The most fun adventure in decades? Not sure if I'd agree with that. It's definitely one of the better made films in decades but the most fun, I'm not so sure. Casino Royale wholly fits the description; still, SP is a fun and exciting adventure and definitely restores the enjoyability factor after the comparatively downbeat QoS and SF.

    Yeah! 18 years! Lol! :))

I just watched SPECTRE at the cinemas for the third time! Before that, I had never watched ANY film more than twice at the cinemas. :D

SPECTRE is the first fun movie with Daniel Craig.

And the most fun since GoldenEye.

I just keep watching this movie. It is so classic yet so modern. The cinematography is absolutely stunning. Together with the tremendous music this is a real fun and exciting Bond movie!

It definitely has a classic appeal. It plays out in some ways like a Connery film and the style of it all, from the sets to the suits, are distinctly 60s.

I'm surprised about how SPECTRE is seen in these forum pages.
    Like it was some failure.

It is very under appreciated (if that is a word). Like unwanted child.

Makes me a bit sad, considering it was one of the most successful movies of all time where I live. It even beat Star Wars by considerable margin!

Maybe is it regional issue? All the poeple I know loved it totally.

Personally for me first time in, wow, 20 years I liked a Bond movie this much.

Artistically clearly the best effort too.

I dont get all the hate either. In some ways, it is Craigs best film. Its easily better than QOS & SF.

@LordBrettSinclair, are you by any chance Swiss? If so, I can understand your perspective, because I recall BondJasonBond006 saying it was a massive success there. In most of North America, it was forgotten relatively quickly, and received middling reviews at best.

Not fun at all. Glamorous and stylish but very dull. The gags were ok but don't have enduring appeal like the early films

Fun? Hardly. SP is about as "fun" as a root canal.

Mendes can't seem to handle shooting action in a fun, interesting way. I felt the action in both SF and SP was miserably dull and stale - offers no true sense of danger, excitement, nothing.

I really enjoyed the action in SF (both the pretitles and the Home Alone/MacGyver/A-team finale) but agree on SP.

The Hinx fight is one of the most tense, dangerous Bond scenes I've ever seen! A lot of SP's action is too vehicle heavy, but when it comes to the Hinx fight, I don't get the criticism.

We also don't know how much action Mendes or his second-unit shot, respectively, so let's be mindful of our criticisms.

The Hinx fight was the exception for me. Everything else was completely a bore.

I've never been able to accurately nail down what it is exactly about the action sequences in both of Mendes' installments I don't care for, and maybe one day I will be able to explain it, but it just doesn't do it for me. Whether this was on Mendes or the second-unit, it still doesn't interest me or make any sort of impact.

I think it is a great Bondmovie. I really like the actionscenes without the Bournedriven edits and shaken camsyndrom like in Quantum where you really cannot follow what is happening. Spectre has a real classic feel and together with the stunning cinematography and soundtrack it is an exciting Bondadventure.
