    Full press release

Adele will premiere her latest recording “Skyfall,” the official theme song to the upcoming 007 adventure of the same name, globally via her official site (www.Adele.tv) on Friday October 5th at 0:07 BST/London time (7:07pm EST on October 4th), the track will be available to purchase as a download immediately after this premiere. The track is available for pre-order at iTunes starting today (http://smarturl.it/AdeleSkyfall). October 5th marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Dr. No, and thus the James Bond film franchise, and will be celebrated as Global James Bond Day.

After reading the script for the film, Adele enlisted Paul Epworth to co-write and produce the theme song to “Skyfall™.” Adele admits, “I was a little hesitant at first to be involved with the theme song for Skyfall. There's a lot of instant spotlight and pressure when it comes to a Bond song. But I fell in love with the script and Paul had some great ideas for the track and it ended up being a bit of a no brainer to do it in the end. It was also a lot of fun writing to a brief, something I've never done which made it exciting. When we recorded the strings, it was one of the proudest moments of my life. I’ll be back combing my hair when I'm 60 telling people I was a Bond girl back in the day I'm sure!” Recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London, “Skyfall” features the lush accompaniment of a 77-piece orchestra.

“Skyfall” is the first recording by Adele since releasing her massively successful sophomore album 21 in early 2011. To date 21 has sold over 24 million albums worldwide and garnered Adele 6 Grammy Awards, 2 BRIT Awards and 2 Ivor Novello Awards. 21 is the biggest selling album of both 2011 and 2012.

“Skyfall,” the movie, will be released on October 26, 2012 in the UK and on November 9, 2012 in the U.S.

    Lizo.

Me too. Newman better not let us down at the last hurdle.

I hope so too - i loved the way 'variations' of 'YKMN' were played throughout Casino Royale', especially the romantic or touching moments between Bond and Vesper. I'd really like the Skyfall themesong to be used throughout the film.

I always appreciated how Barry was able to utilize and incoporate 3 different themes into the score throughout TLD (aha's theme, Necro's theme and the end credits song).

I've already said why and I don't want to repeat myself. Just go back a few pages.

Besides, I don't think she's a really bad choice, I just think there are better ones.

To my knowledge, this is the first official comment from EON stating that ADELE will sing Skyfall.

Can't wait to hear that 77-piece orchestra behind Adele's vocals on Skyfall.

Looking at the Bond Title Song Charts it's surprising to see that the recent rock songs performed so badly in the US charts. You Know My Name only made it to 79 and Another Way To Die at 81. The UK charts were less fussy and positioned them at 7 and 9 respectively which goes to show that it backfired getting 2 rock acts to perform the past 2 Bond songs if they wanted a slice of the huge US market. I have no doubt in my mind it will be different this time round and we'll see Adele's song easily beat even Madonna's DAD to be the first Bond song to top the charts both sides of the Atlantic.
  • Has a Bond song never been no 1 in America? I know I read GF or DAF got to no 1 in the UK but I'm not sure about America.

A View To A Kill is the only one, isn't it? :)

DAF only made it to #57 in the US and #38 UK, @thelivingroyale. Last ballad-like hits were Carly Simon and Sheena Easton who both reached Top 5 in the US. Duran Duran are the only act to ever have a No 1 in the US with a Bond song as @NorwegianBond points out, though Madonna was the most recent to break the Top 10 both sides of the Atlantic with her effort.

no mention of Newman being involved at any stage. that concerns me slightly as i desperately wanted the title track to be incorporated in the score.

I think it will be Getafix. As it was way back earliar this year on the Jonathan Ross show that she had been working on it?

There's nothing to say that the song isn't incorporated in the score, @Getafix. I believe the reason why the song was started on so early in production was to allow Tom Newman to use it when and where he wanted as @RogueAgent points out.

AVTAK was also the highest-charted Bond theme in the UK to date (peaked at 2). Of course, that will probably change this coming Sunday when this week's UK charts debut on BBC Radio 1. (The U.S. charts have more lag time; Adele can't conquer them till late next week, and the airplay component of the U.S. charts could delay its No. 1 even further.)

Don't say 12:07; say 0:07. I got it, and I'm in the U.S. where only the military says it that way. ;)

I agree with @RogueAgent & @bondsum. The full EON release confirms she recorded it at Abbey Road; Newman was also there (that's how the tabloids figured it out). It's also possible Newman waived credit on the sheet music to be on the safe side; the Oscars have been persnickety on songwriting credits in recent years, though he would have fit in with Adele & Epworth on THE toughest Oscar rule (max three songwriters per song).

Guess what I am doing. I am listening ALL previous Bond songs, including all official secondary songs and some rejected Bond songs.....on my new Sony Home Cinema set. I'm going mental this week :P.

Glad to see it finally confirmed. No brainer really. It had to be Adele. It could be no one else. The producers cocked up by not getting Winehouse on the gig last time round, and also greenlit the worst Bond song of all time, so it looks like this time round all the stops are being pulled out. The producers are giving the fans what they want. Adele was born to sing a Bond song.

Skyfall is looking good so far. The only small gripe I have is Craig's hair being near-on a skinhead, but other than that I am quietly optimistic that this could be one great movie.
  • Wow! Just heard a minute and a half preview. Really, really, really good.
