I like your style, @Shardlake, although I think I like QoS, TDKR and Spectre better than you do :P
Tom Hardy as Bane was just incredible, IMO.

    @Gustav_Graves, CHECK and MATE! :))

Not to single you for the firing squad here, @Gustav_Graves, but for someone who has admitted to feeling "comparison fatigue" here as of late what with all the SF vs. SP nonsense, with this you are simply perpetuating more of the same.

The word "better" is so slimy in these kinds of discussions, as it signals an inevitable end where one party is deemed king and the other just "meh." I have massive knowledge about both Bond and Batman-they are two characters upon which my world revolves around, along with Sherlock Holmes-which only serves to show me how futile these kinds of discussions are. It's just going to spark more mind-numbing comparisons between two phenomenally constructed series of films that don't deserve to be treated like a boxing bout where only one can come out on top; that completely isolates the great things about one of those entities.

I'd contribute to such a thread if its purpose was to analyze similarities and differences between the films and how the directors and other members of the creative teams told things in Bruce and Bond's origins and other parts of the hero narrative/quest, but that's not what this is after, I think. Here we're just handing out gold stars to one and telling the other to head to the corner and turn its back.

And if I have to hear another person say Mendes is a hack who can't do anything as a director but copy Nolan, I will scream until my lungs implode upon themselves.

It is hard for me to choose between the two. Bale and Nolan knocked it out of the ballpark with their takes on Batman. While Craig has been embraced by all Bond fans around the world.

I loved "Batman Begins" as much as I enjoyed CR. TDK like Empire Strikes Back is considerable darker and rather depressing. It is still an achievement in film making and story telling. I also liked the final film, TDKR. I see this one gets some dishing as being the weakest of the three but I disagree. I found it to be very good and refreshing. Not nearly as dark or scary as the previous film.

QoS ranks low on the Craigameter. I just find so little to like about this film. The ending?

EON knocked it out of the park with the final two films, SF and SP

So for me (and only me) I REFUSE TO CHOOSE I LOVED BOTH THE TRILOGY AND THE QUADRILOGY.

Bond. It has CR in the mix. Thus, superior.

PS. Pierce Brosnan is the Adam West of Bond! Ha ha!

I would say Sean is the Adam West of Bond

Quadrilogy is still not an actual word haha. I don't want to have a discussion about linguistics but this was made up for the Alien box set release and got popular after. Take note that the current blu ray release has the word anthology.

Enjoyed the Keaton love a few pages back. The Burton Batman is an all time favourite. I just don't see how you can't have fun with it. It's gloriously OTT and drenched in beautiful noir lighting, with some cracking set design and a banging score from the Elfman. If you don't feel a tightening in your loins during that opening sequence, as the theme kicks out atop the meandering camera move around the Bat symbol, I have to question your judgement.

You say that like it's a bad thing. ;)
Adam West was the right Batman for the era.

Adam West is better compared to Roger Moore.

    Moore obviously.
  • Always Bond. I've actually gained a greater appreciation for Nolan recently, but TDK and TDKR are still too heavy-handed for me to enjoy on repeated viewings. Any Bond film is more romantic in the broadest sense of the word, even QOS. Batman Begins has some of that allure as well.

@Gustav_Graves I agree with that totally. I love me some TDK but Craig's development of Bond has never been seen before. Now as for some of these latter comments that speak on a disjointed and less cohesive quadrilogy note which era they take place in. I think that each of Craig's films were made in the exact style they were meant to exempt in his Characterization. From Casino Royales Raw and Beautifully Small Design to Quantums Brutal Revenged Gritty tone. Both those films show Bonds inexperience and the beginning. All the Way to Skyfall and Spectre 6 years later as Bond enters a bigger world with big personalities and the stakes are larger than life. Both films Surreal and Beautifully shot you feel everything and For me Spectre Brought it Home Classy Film and Retcon or not it all fit together perfectly.i still don't believe the retcon part but hey Both are Amazing

@Cloud007 True CR and QOS resonate to the core really. Never felt so close to Bond in my Life
  • Thanks for the response @Eric_007 ;-)! I almost forgot that I made this topic hehe.

It's down to numbers and The Dark Knight Trilogy wins for me, I don't like SF and SP and I like all The Dark Knight films. The Dark Knight Trilogy wins 3 - 2 though if it was individual films vs each other the outcome would be different

For as much criticism that Spectre gets (and to an extent, deserves), nothing in the Craig quadrilogy is anywhere near as embarrassing of a mess as The Dark Knight Rises was.

And I loved Begins and The Dark Knight.

    Quadrilogy is not a word...ugh.

I'm glad I'm not the only one knowing this.

The proper term is of course tetralogy.

Same for me except it's CR and QoS I'm not as keen on. Really enjoyed SF and loved SP but I enjoyed all three of Nolan's Batman films so 3-2 to Batman.

    No:
As an alternative to "tetralogy", "quartet" is sometimes used, particularly for series of four books. The term "quadrilogy", using the Latin prefix quadri- instead of the Greek, and first recorded in 1865,[6] has also been used for marketing cinematic series, such as the Alien movies.

From a cinematic perspective, 'quadrilogy' is used more often than 'tetralogy'. The latter mostly used for literature.

As far as outright my favourite of both series as an individual film it would be TDK would take the prize.

CR would be close behind and SF not much behind that, QOS I don't think is as good as BB though but I do rate it highly in the Bond series.

TDKR is not my favourite film and easily the worst of Nolan's Bat trilogy but I am hugely impressed how Nolan weaves all these films together, his ability to tie everything together is far more impressive than what has been done with the DC era.

If it wasn't for SP the DC era would be much more satisfying for me so I have to vote for Nolan's Bat trilogy.

I couldn't care less about the previous Bat films although I quite like Batman Returns.
