I find the novel & the movie have so little in comparison it really does not work comparing them.

It's hard to really compare the two because it's a real apples/oranges comparison. The novel is very good, with a good serious story and good characters. The film doesn't really have that, but what it does what it does pretty well and is always good for a couple of mindless hours of entertainment.

With that said, the decision goes to the novel, but I do rather like the film for what it is.

@dalton , you should change yours to Book: 9.

My bad. I must have been on Page 1 and thought I was on Page 2 when I made the post. :)

The movie is a remake of TSWLM (which was a remake of YOLT anyway). The book has a clever plot, and for once, Bond doesn't get the girl. That certainly was a first. Plus, I once did a James Bond 007 RPG adventure based on the plot of the book, changing the names so slightly, and setting it in French Guyana, it worked very well.

This is one time that I will go with the consensus. Moonraker is my favourite Bond book (including all the continuation books as well), but one of my least favourite Bond films.

Unsurprisingly this was no contest. Ian Fleming's novels haven't lost a single match-up here. Wonder how the next one wil turn out.

Next up is: DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER

Tough one here, not my favourite book or my favourite film. However, Tiffany Case was downright irritating in the film and the plot is all over the place. I'll have to go with the book again here.

Excluding the short stories, then DAF is my least favourite Ian Fleming written Bond book. But, like @Bridleson, I think the book is still better than the film.

I like the film all right, but it isn t one of the greats. The book is, in my book.

I do prefer Wint and Kidd over Wint and Gore, though. Funny how Mr Wint resembles Mr Gore in the book, while Mr Kidd resembles Mr Wint.

The film is entertaining, but not very good IMO.

The book wasn't too good either, but definitely better than the movie IMO.

The movie is, IMHO of course, the place where the movies jumped the shark. Too much juvenile humour, no class whatsoever. The book is a great thriller. No contest, really.

Though it's a Top Ten film for me, it can't compete with the textures and depth of that great novel.

Book so much better than the film. And that's why bits from the book keep turning up in other Bond films.

They are both excellent. The characters are much more fleshed out in the book, though. Especially Grant, but also Kerim, Krilencu, Klebb, Kronsteen.
