I suppose it is, but OHMSS never really felt like a Christmas movie to me.

There's no suppose about it, it is a xmas film, you only have to watch the film to realise this.

    :-O
I have watched the film, many many times and love it, but it just doesn't feel like it to me. It is but doesn't feel like it if that makes sense.

What more do you need? Father Christmas? Reindeers?

Ohmss is perfect how it is. I don't need anything.

I mean for you to consider it a Christmas movie.

    Honestly, I don't know.

    Nice one Telly ?

He did actually sing a little bit towards the end of the song, as he had spent most of it just talking his way through!

btw:- are those collars on his shirt or wings?

    :D

There's nothing to get me in the mood for Christmas better than
seeing a few terrorist/criminal scum get blown away ! At a pinch
I'll settle for seeing it in a movie. ;)

So it is fairy tale for you? That and Jesus?

Well of course Jesus is a fairy tale. Don't tell me there's some people out there who think it's all true?

I do believe the entire biblical narrative cover to cover and would love to discuss it with you privately if you want.

Nice to see a fellow Christian around here.

I think the bold was rather 'in jest'... :>

Nope it wasn't I truly am believe.

Another classic Christmas film was on UK tv last night, Will Smiths Enemy of the State, I'd forgotten about that one.

    This is a lovely song.

OHMSS had such fantastic music in the film.

Not about OHMSS, but interesting observations about what makes a Christmas movie (And yes, Eyes Wide Shut also belongs to this genre):

Did you know this was the original theme Barry wrote for BOHMSS? It was decided too melancohly, but listen close and you will hear the same basic melody as the Christmas trees song!

Spectre is also a very Christmas film. As Bond gets a present
of a lovely new watch, then goes off visiting relatives. ;) that
    Sounds like Christmas to me.

And as with most holiday extended family get-togethers, it all blows up in his face (or somebody's face) :D

    This is a silly discussion.

Q:- Is OHMSS a Xmas film?

A:- Well no because its a Bond film ;) :-O , but it is a Bond film set at Xmas
  • Posts: 4,622
Yep it"s a Bond film first

And second a Blofeld/Spectre Bond film with cat.

It has everything it needs to be a Christmas movie. And a Christmas story.
  • On Her Majesty's Secret Service is essentially a James Bond film. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is also essentially a Christmas film. The two characteristics don't negate each other.

Sort of like how Batman & Robin is both essentially a Batman film and essentially a bad film. They aren't mutually exclusive labels. They're just different facets of the film's identity.

Thanks for this; I hadn't seen it before!

Take away Christmas--say the presents for the Angels of Death or the ice skating festival and its fireworks--and OHMSS is a lesser film. Therefore it is a Christmas film.

Take out the over-usage of the word 'essentially' and you've nailed it: OHMSS IS a Bond film and it IS a Christmas film.

Only just spotted this today but at the end of OHMSS is Bond driving on the wrong side of the road ?

He's driving on the left ( normal for a car in the UK) then waves on a following car to overtake him on the
Right ? ( at a very bad, blind right turn by the way ). All fine for the UK, but isn't he in Portugal ? So shouldn't he
Be Driving on the right and waving cars on to overtake him on the left ? I notice even Blofeld's car is also a
    right hand drive model.
It's funny what you pick up on after a few hundred viewings :))

Yes, I had to google it, but Portugal switched to right-side-driving in the 1920s.
