I don't picture any of the actors as none are a perfect fit.

Me neither. The character Fleming writes about is none of those on screen.

Casino Royale, but I haven't been keeping up with it as much as I should because I must say, I'm not much of a reader

I've always pictured a harder edged Roger Moore.
Try as I might to picture Connery, the brain always defaults back to Moore, but more like the Moore visage in the LALD poster art.
This happens no matter what Bond I am reading, be it Fleming or one of the continuation novels.

That's a wonderful place to be. You have the rest of it, 11 more novels and 9 short stories to go.

Bought several on Kindle, pre university I read four books a week easily of any subject. now I never seem to have time, though revisiting good literature need not be rushed.

I know, I was too busy drinking, doing drugs and getting laid all through my years at Syracuse University. No free time.

I was much more boring than that!

I just finished Moonraker. It's a fantastic read and easily my favourite of the novels so far. Plan on reading some of the continuation novels soon to add some variety. I'm thinking Trigger Mortis, High Time To Kill or Colonel Sun is next.

I've been going through the Fleming novels for the first time and so far Moonraker is my favourite too. Just finished OHMSS which currently sits at third and will no doubt make me appreciate the film even more on my next watch (it must be one of the most faithful Fleming adaptions?) Next up is YOLT which I'm very excited about based on what I've heard about it (lots of material that hasn't been used in the films, Bond's revenge, finale to the Blofeld trilogy). Are there many fans of it here?

YOLT is almost a travelog on Japan, but it is a fantastic read. With Bond getting to
    Meet with Blofeld again.

I'm reading one of Raymond Benson's, 'The Man with the Red Tattoo'. I don't think I've read this one before.

I'm...not a massive Benson fan, but it is passing the time adequately and he gets big points for mentioning Hachiko the dog.

Casino Royale is my number two. I can't resist Bond facing off against a villain through gambling in a casino, another reason why Moonraker is my number one.

I actually think the card game is better in MR. Fleming uses some fantastic descriptions

Those are my first and second favourites, too, but because I like the settings and I like how the romance plays out (OHMSS takes the third slot).

The only novel that I don't like is live and Let Die

With the disclaimer that I haven't read Faulks' contribution, I will say Benson is by some measure the weakest writer we've had on the series. He wasn't a writer—he was a fan—and that shows in his novels. Some of his characters, action sequences, and plot points feel reasonably well suited for a 90s or early 00s action movie, but his prose is as prosaic as it comes and he included a few too many overtly juvenile and/or rather un-Bondian moments. I enjoy his first couple adventures for their cool locations (Hong Kong, Athens) and for some of the action sequences, but his approach grew old fast and I'm not happy with his treatments of Mathis and especially Draco. Plus it was rather weird to be having characters from the 50s/60s still functioning in the new millennium. I understand the films kind of did a similar thing with linking Dalton and Brosnan to Tracy, etc., but not so overtly as to have Tiger Tanaka join Bond on a mission in 2002 or thereabouts.

Sadly I think the Benson novels are a real low point.

Just took delivery today of the latest Steve Cole, Young Bond, Strike Lightning (2016).
Got an an "Exclusive Signed Special Edition" with Behind-the-Scenes material, imported from Jolly Old, as the Cole Young Bonds don't seem to be available here in the colonies.
I am proud owner of all three Cole YB hardcovers, the last two signed.
I've read the dust jacket. Ready to dive in to the opening chapter.
I thought the first two Cole efforts were excellent, so I expect no less from this 3rd installment.

Looks like I'm just in time, thanks. I'll add mine when I finish YOLT.

Given the modern world, I too have enjoyed listening to the audio books, while on
Long drives or just walking the dog.

@Thunderpussy I need to try the audio books but I worry that I will lose focus and be forced to constantly replay parts. I'm a bit OCD about missing anything. Have any issues with this?

Luckily no, I listen to them basically the same way as I'd read them.
Stopping at the end of a chapter or two. So easy to pick up again.
