As I said to Pierce— up until this video, I’ve called BS on these scoops.

But this guy’s introduction of what he’s heard to date (hard at work on direction, have on multiple occasions shot down a TV spin off (why don’t ppl believe EoN when they have also publicly stated this, 😂), casting has not happened, no one has auditioned, typical meetings with actors (as I said about ATJ, he hasn’t auditioned, but that doesn’t mean he hasnt met for a dinner or a meeting with the producers), an agreement of three year cycles/film, PnW will be starting outlines and/or a script in the New Year), no filming will be done in ‘23, rings eerily similar with much I’ve heard. In fact, it sounded identical and I got butterflies in my gut.

This new wrinkle with Nolan— and this is coming from someone who didn’t want this to happen— is definitely the first I’ve heard about this, but, more importantly, sounds entirely legitimate and exactly how this would play out IF this is true (and I’m not doubting it is):

Nolan will be spending the rest of this year editing his behemoth Oppenheimer, mixing, press right up until weeks before the premiere. He’s going to be a very busy man.

But IF this is true and he made some rough notes on what P&W should focus their writing on, that would give them enough time to have a solid draft to deliver to Nolan by the time he’s finished with Oppenheimer— the timing is exactly perfect.

IF this is true and auditions start with the delivery of the new script and director in place, it’s very bloody feasible that shooting COULD begin as early as Jan ‘24 with a release date in November of that year.

As I told ppl, the casting of Bond concerned me; it just felt there was no one actor that could make the previous James Bond fade away gently. But hiring Nolan (and once again this is someone very wary about where he is as a filmmaker), would be a bold move and that name still has the star wattage to completely drown out Craig.

I’ve put in a feeler to a person who’d know if this is true or false and I’ve received Radio Silence (except to wish me a Happy Christmas). I can’t doubt this video at the moment. Not even a little bit.

No problem @LucknFate … I think @Pierce2Daniel can attest that I’m always calling out scoops and calling them false.

If this one is another fake— then it has me utterly fooled!

This one does sound a bit more plausible than the usual 'scoop', tbf.
I don't actually know much about Nolan - saw Inception on tv a few years back, that's it. I know he's got credibility among film fans, but does he have the popular name-recognition to get a general audience's attention and distract from the lack of Craig? Sorry if that sounds naive, guys, but I really dunno!
Dan's going to be such a hard act to follow and chances are the new guy's going to get a lot of stick simply for not being Daniel Craig. Tried to think of things that might take the comparison weapon out of the media's hands and give them other issues to concentrate on, and the main one I can think of would be if EON went with Sope. Which is ironic, as he's probably the candidate with the most similarities to Dan in many ways! Said it before, though - I'm not sure they're ready to take that step.

I hope the Nolan rumor is fake, I don't think he would be a good choice, especially if they want to go in a new and maybe lighter direction. I would prefer directors who work both in film and TV, like Mark Mylod or David Mackenzie.

Oh boy. While I'm not 100% closed to Nolan on it, I really don't like that direction for Bond on paper. Could easily see this being too tonally similar to Craig + too "deep" or intellectual for what it needs to be. One upside is that we'd be very likely to get the last possible different amount of films for a Bond actor, as with Batman, I feel strongly this would be a trilogy if it came from Nolan.

    I'm down for a 2024 release, if it's done right...but 2025 looks more likely.

Yeah, not sold on Nolan either. Both those directors would be more interesting I personally feel.

Anyway, let's presume that all this is true. It doesn't mean Nolan will be directing Bond 26 for certain. Look at what happened with Danny Boyle. I'm sure there have been countless other directors who have fallen through at earlier stages as well.

Mark Mylod? Interesting, haven't seen The Menu yet.

Nolan fits the "prestige" director trend that they started with Mendes and attempted with Boyle. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that Nolan's involvement was established prior to Danie's curtain call.

Michael, Barbara, and Christopher, have said that they will/would "reinvent" Bond...

I'm extremely hesitant with all of that information but the video honestly did make me realise that at this point, If it's true, I'm down with it. Let's do it. Just go for it.

Should we start a production thread with the Nolan rumor video? Or wait for more?

I think when it comes to Nolan, while I get the hesitancy, the fact that the Bond franchise is something that evolves and changes even within a specific actor's era with different creatives and different stories, I'm open to seeing what he would do.

This wouldn't be another Nolan film, this would be Nolan stripped back from high concept and providing us with one story among many others that other people will get to shape so I think while these rumours, as @talos7 says, should be taken with a grain of salt, I think it would be a choice I'd look forward to seeing.

I also think Taylor-Johnson and Nolan are a good match, but again grain of salt.

I have to say...I never thought we would have serious Bond 26 rumours to discuss in 2022.

Just to clarify, I think we started the B25 production thread with the Boyle rumors. Can't remember for sure though. It should definitely be a footnote in the history of B26 that we started with strong Nolan and ATJ rumors.
  • Can anyone vouch for this guy? I would dismiss this as fan speculation, however he seems too rational. If what he is saying is true then we may be getting a 2024 release date and Christopher Nolan directing the reboot. It does make sense as Nolan has been after the job for a while. I would imagine that he has a unique take which involves some time-shifting narrative. I know @peter has been looking into what is said in the video. Judge for yourselves below.

As much as I want Nolan to direct and believe there is a pretty good chance he will be our next director, that youtuber is lying. Why? Because he says Purvis and Wade are coming back. No chance. If Nolan is directing, then Nolan is writing. And if Nolan is writing, then Purvis and Wade won't ever get anywhere near Bond 26.

It'd probably be the Nolan brothers writing. ;-)

It is also worth noting that while this could either be just empty speculation, it's also possible that it is speculation which is an extension of the truth, so maybe just simple conversations have been had with Nolan and Taylor-Johnson?

I don’t think anyone is lying. If this doesn’t come into fruition, this gentleman reporting sounded as if the information he received definitely came from someone quite close to Eon— I say that because a few people here know I did hear the same things (minus Nolan).

And as far as P&W? It makes perfect sense that IF Nolan is on board, he’s busy editing and mixing Oppenheimer; it would be entirely realistic for him to have, as the YouTuber pointed out, make a rough outline or points and ask other writers to starts a working draft based on his notes.

Once Nolan is fully free of Oppenheimer, it’s also entirely possible he takes the working draft and then builds on it (I just pray that if this is the case, he brings his brother and sister in law on board as they are far better writers than Nolan).

But as far as this guy lying? I really think he got his info from a good source— whether this happens or not, his report sounded legitimate (and I’m saying this as someone on record that has believed exactly zero “scoops” up until this one; even now I’m not saying this is fact yet, but everything about it passes the smell test (once again, everything up until Nolan was almost word for word what I have heard, and; anything to do with Nolan would likely roll out the way his source stated (Nolan is on Oppenheimer until release, of course, so, unable to focus all his attention on another project, he made outline/notes to pass to P&W (two trusty stalwarts), to then at least start a draft (makes sense); once Oppenheimer has opened, and the announcement is made, Nolan can start auditioning actors with this script. No one has suggested P&W continue after this, just that they’d develop Nolan’s points (if true, this is likely how it’d roll)).

And once again I’m saying this as someone who thinks this is the best business decision EoN has, and Nolan plus Bond will guarantee an explosive start to the new era, but I’m also someone who isn’t very fond of the man’s output since really TDK (so I have no dog in this fight, in other words, other than to chime in with my opinion).

    This may end up to all be for nothing, or;

    Nolan could be an active “consultant “ on development of B26 (and he may help Eon choose a director), or;

Nolan could be an active “consultant” on developing B26 and will only become director after Oppenheimer is locked and printed and released, and all publicity out of the way…

Edit: excuse typos… dealing with family dog end of life…

I do think the Nolan rumors are true… the timing is just too perfect and it’s a known fact they’ve been pursuing him / Nolan himself has even expressed interest. I recall him saying he would do it if he were “needed”, which I believed at this time to mean rebooting a new actor/story arc.

He isn’t my ideal choice at all, however there’s a few things keeping me optimistic: he seems to “get” Bond as demonstrated by his love for OHMSS and choosing Dalton as his favorite Bond actor. Also, he’s a versatile director, so he would undoubtedly be able to handle a range of emotions along with action.

The concern for me is that he tends to cram in insane amount of detail and dialogue into his films. It really becomes a chore at times. If they can keep the script tight without his usual rapid fire dialogue I think we’re in safe hands.

Based on comments that Nolan has made I think it’s safe to say that he probably has a story, and direction , in mind and has discussed it with EON.

Thank you @peter for all of that and I’m sorry to hear about your family dog. I hope everything’s ok.

And generally I just wondered how the Taylor-Johnson rumours fit into all this? Is that part of rumour or was that a connection made the guy who made the video?

Somehow I naively always thought they'd return to the trusty actor's first Bond film director Martin Campbell but I suppose he's maybe a tad too old now to direct another Bond film?

Martin Campbell is still my first choice.

“…from the director of Casino Royale and Goldeneye…” is a pretty powerful headline/trailer lead.

I do think while Nolan is far from my first choice, him and James Bond is a good combo to draw in audiences.
