I didn't really get into it I must admit. And nodded off toward the end (an age thing) and probably missed something important. For me probably the least enjoyable story this season, but then Series 9 has been quite good, head-and-shoulders above S8, and the Christmas Specials are usually a bit of a mixed bag. Thought Capaldi and Kingston were excellent as always.

It was fluffy and enjoyable, the best bit was the naughtiness by River and she did not know how she was fessing up so much to her old man. I love River and if she never returns to the franchise she got a decent farewell.

It was ok but to be honest i don't really tend to enjoy the Christmas specials.

Pertwee's Doctor was quite Bond-like, or at least I think so. With UNIT acting as his MI6.

Well, given that Pertwee had met Fleming during WW II, that was t be expected. BTW, was the autogyro in "Planet of the Spiders" the same one than in YOLT ?

I know nothing when it comes to make/models of Gyrocopters. So I did a little digging around and found out that Little Nellie was a Wallis WA-116 Agile, while the gyro seen in Planet Of The Spiders was a Campbell Super Cricket.

According to RadionTimes, it's official : Steven Moffat will leave after series 10 (which will air in 2017), and will be replaced as showrunner by Chris Chibnall. More details here :

So we're only getting the christmas special? That's a reason to be doubly thankful for Big Finish. I'm not surprised that Moffat is stepping down. He's been producing the show since 2010, and has hand picked 2 Doctors.

Bit of a mixed bag for me. Relieved that Moffat's going (can't say I've been the biggest fan of his era), but Chibnall for showrunner? Writer of episodes like "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship?" Oh dear. I don't know, he might surprise me...

So other than a Christmas special? The Dr will not be seen until next year!!! That's a real shame! :-q

Hope not. Would like Capaldi to do at least four series if not five.

Agree, Capaldi is not the problem. I love his "grumpy" Doctor.

I think Capaldi is tainted by association with the underwhelming last few years. I was delighted when he was cast - he was just brilliant in The Thick Of It and also his guest turn in Torchwood. But they were very good shows (well, the specific Torchwood he was in was rather special). But Dr Who has not been that good in the last two years. The public are losing interest. Capaldi is not a star - but a great actor. They need to recast the role and give it to someone who can be a star. I hate saying that, I really do. In many ways, he could be the Timothy Dalton of Dr Who - so much talent, potential and quality but let down by under performing colleagues and maybe just the dumb luck of being the right man in the role at the wrong time.

Well, he hasn't talked about it :

So, for now, I'm filing that one under "rumours".

And just for fun, what happens when three Doctors meet at a crossroad :

I really enjoy Capaldi in the role. Completely different to the guys before him and great performances. Be a shame if he leaves but I'll look forward to whoever takes over.

Over the last few days I've binge-watched Doctor Who for my first 'serious' watch of this cult tv show. I've started with the first episode of Christopher Ecclestone's era and now I'm at the 7th episode (''42'') of the 2nd season of the David Tennant era. I had seen a few episodes of Ecclestone before, but I must say I enjoyed Tennant immediately.

Sincerely hope Capaldi is not going just yet?

Has anyone tried going to a fancy dress as a character from the show? One of my cousins is having a birthday celebration, with a fancy dress theme (the 1980's). I've chosen to go as the 7th Doctor. So far I have the hat and the brolly.

Still not sure about season 9 probably need to rewatch it. IMO big improvement to 8, and thought Capaldi was much better. Warming to Capaldi, would be interested to see how his Doctor would fair with another head writer. Must admit though Chibnals Who penned episodes I thought have been weak, not seen broadchurch though slightly concerned with him taking over. Moffat is irratic though some of his ideas are far out which is good for Who.

The cast and plot of the spin-off "Class" has been announced :

    doctorwhotv.co.uk/cast-for-doctor-who-spin-off-class-announced-80348.htm

    class-cast-a.jpg

“Time has looked at your faces now. And time never forgets…”

"What if your planet was massacred and you were the sole survivor?
What if a legendary figure out of space and time found you a place to hide?
But what if the things that want to kill you have tracked you down?
And worst of all, what if you haven’t studied for your A-Levels…?"

Yes, we've seen that a thousand times. But, as always, everything lies in the execution, no ? Let's agree to wait and see. Please ?

All right, raise your hands if, being a Whovian, you didn't think of "Terror of the Zygons" while reading this news :

My Seventh Doctor Silk Paisley Scarf has arrived from Lovarzi. £36.99 but money well spent. Next on the list, the question mark jumper.

I will. I would have thought that the scarf would have been hard to find. But along with the brolly, it's been the easiest. The jacket has been a right bitch. I have found one that, while affordable, is a decent substitute. I have managed to find a fairly accurate panama from M&S, I just need to remove the band, and replace it with a second hankerchief.
