Good news. Now, if somebody could tell me when Murray Gold's soundtrack for series 9 will be released, I'd be a happy Whovian.

Speaking of Chris Achilleos, London's Cartoon Museum will organize an exhibition of covers from Target Books novelizations, drawn by Chris Achilleos. Details here :

I visited the museum way back when in 2011, for another Who-themed exhibition (Doctor Who in the comics). I highly recommand the visit of the museum.

Announcement of new companion seems early though I guess they may have a longer shooting schedule for series Ten having a year out. Would be good to have a off world companion again, or a companion from the past or future. The recent companions have been retreads of the previous one most of the time.

@Gerard I have many of the New Who soundtracks on Amazon Prime, usually show up on digital download before hard copy. Though there has been no sign of Season 9.

Would really love an alien companion, something along the lines of Leela, just more otherworldly. Anything but another in-love-with-the-doctor companion like Rose! Oh, and it would be nice if she were fit too.

An Amazonian type Alien would fit the bill, or Romana I :x. New Who companions have often been Rose clones, need something different.

@fire_and_ice. Agree 100%. Although I loved Clara I'd really welcome a complete change. Hopefully someone who'll spark off of Capaldi.

Clara did improve alot admittedly in season 9 ironically, still think her surviving really took some weight out of the penultimate episode, though you could argue the Final episode is the Doctors refusal to give up on her. Really need to rewatch season 9 only watched it once.

Agree Capaldi I grew to like alot last season,he has really grown into the role. A companion with friction is often good, someone to challenge the Doctor. Is there any candidates for the next companion?

Not familiar with her, I read she is on Eastenders.

She was. A very good actress, and maybe a safe bet for Dr Who to do some box ticking at the same time.
And I do think she will fit nicely with Peter Capaldi

She's been on Eastenders? Could be worse, it could be Danny Dyer. ;) "Cor blimey Doc, this is big inside, innit?"

:)) Some soap actors are good thankfully, think Coleman was on Emmerdale. Actress who played Martha was on the Crossroads reboot that sank, not sure how I know that I dont watch soaps I remember random facts.

Saying that is a bit like saying that Bond Girls are "bikini-clad bimbos" when nothing could be further from the truth. I grant you that Martha was a bit like that, true. But she got over it really fast. And Donna (my favourite) was certainly not interested in the Doctor. Amy was flirtatious (and had a bit of pre-wedding butterflies), but her heart was Rory's. And as for Clara, once Mr. Pink entered the scene, she had no eyes for the Doctor anymore.

However, I do agree that we need a bit of change, as in a companion from the past (like Victoria) or the future (Like Zoe), or from another planet altogether (Like Leela or Romana). But we'll see where they're going to lead us.

How about a regenerated Susan? Carol Ann Ford could even film a cameo to lead in to the regeneration.

I wonder how much discussion is going on between Moffat and Chibnall, Moffat potentionally setting things up for the new show runner. We could be set for a new type of companion from series 10 onwards, unless its just another 1 season companion.

You know what ? It would be a good idea.

Introducing... No idea who she is, just played a short during half time of F.A. Cup semi final. Typical Moffat shenanigans during the short, fast dialogue etc.

"Do you really want them to save time ?"

    "Good point !"

    Great line.

And her name is Pearl Mackie. She played in Eastenders and Doctors, I believe.

As for the name of the companion... Bill ? Does thatt mean that she'll put her hands to her lapels a lot ?

Well I've never heard of Pearl Mackie which, for me, is a good thing. No idea what to expect so it'll all be new. As for the short, I enjoyed that. Excited for the next series, well, the Christmas special first anyway...

Open minded, no idea what to expect from the new companion.

    "Hhmm... what is it, Chesterfield?"

I don't see the point of that clip. An interview with Pearl Mackie herself would have been better.

Well, her Wikipedia page sure has grown since yesterday : from a few lines to a complete biography. The Who effect, probably.

Damn. I was hoping for something a bit different. I take it she's from Earth, nothing to suggest otherwise, and from this time period. Again. Oh well at least we have a full season of Capaldi to look forward to.

Bill maybe has a hint of Donna Noble 2.0. They play it safe I think to appeal to a broader audience.

For some odd reason i was thinking it was one of Clara's students? I assume that this is not the case?

There is quite a good theory going around that Bill is actually from the 1980s. So couldn't really be one of Clara's students. I think it could work quite well if she is actually from the 1980s.

That could work really well. Her clothes certainly suggest she could be from the 80's, the footwear and the Prince T-shirt are definitely a good hint at that.

@Shark_Of_Largo, there is also the fact that she doesn't know what a dalek is, and since 2005 all of earth knows about them! So would fit with her being from the 80s.

Quite right. I think it'll be a nice twist if that turns out to be right. Looking forward to the Christmas special.
