This was always known as the police cruiser in the 90's
  • It's sort of sad in a way... I'm a great fan of heritage and legacy in the automotive world. What the devil is a "Flex" or a "Focus?" it would have been great to see the proud Crown Victoria name carry on in a new form like the Mustang or the Taurus... but alas, such was not to be. :(

So Americans finally join the 21st century and decide to stop driving Battle Ships that can't turn in a hundred miles or more, but instead start to buy cars, like the rest of the world. Oh well.
@PrinceKamaKhan love that commercial, even though the vehicle is one of the ugliest and mis-named beasts ever.

It's got Farrah in her prime! No need to worry about gas mileage, air bags or a seat belt. ;)

    "Well if I had money
    Tell you what I'd do
I'd go downtown and buy a Mercury or two
    Crazy 'bout a Mercury
Lord I'm crazy bout a Mercury

I'm gonna buy me a Mercury
And cruise it up and down the road"

That would be driving forewards and backwards, no? You're not telling me you can actually turn that thing around!

Of course! If one can turn a tank around, why not a Cougar? ;)

Another classic Cougar commercial with another iconic 1970s blond: Cheryl Tiegs-

"Isn't this your year to join the cat set?"

  • Hooray! That means we'll stop seeing them on the roads very shortly.
  • I'm not even from North America, but I would miss that shape of car. Not a four-door "sedan", but a relatively low, long trunk, "box-like" shape. It's a classic surely, and its replacement just won't cut the mustard: http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/12/2009/02/2010-Ford_Taurus_SHO.jpg

@PrinceKamalKhan true, but a tank turns on contradicting tracks. Wonder if that's the case with the Cougar... ;)
Anyway, if they'd just used another car for those ads, they would've been purrrfect! Lovely blonde indeed!

Indeed. I'll admit I like the 1978 Cougar Cheryl was driving more than the 1975 one Farrah drove.

Nonetheless, the 1969 one served Dame Diana pretty well IMHO:

Well those 2 were great classic videos. I remember seeing couple of Mercuries in couple of James Bond movies including we remember a police Crown Victoria in Casino Royale I got the car collection from the movie. Now it very sad Ford kills off the Crown Victoria. But Their New Taurus take the top range. The Taurus will make a good car for everything.
