LALD - 12
including two ties.
Title track: LALD - Not even close.
Title credits: LALD - See above. The burning skull as the song title kicks in is a fabulous combo.
Main villain: LALD - Not blown away by either but I think Kotto's malevolent performance sneaks it.
Main Bond Girl: SP - I'm so sorry Jane but there's just something about classy French birds with cracking tits.
Henchman: SP - Extremely close. Hinx has a a great opening scene and a great closing scene but is crap in the middle. Tee Hee is great fun throughout but got to give it Hinx just for the fight.
Plot: Tie- Neither much to write home about. Serviceable at best.
Dialogue: SP - Some great Mankiewicz one liners come close to letting LALD nick this but despite everything there are some good scenes in SP (Lucia, Mr White, most of the dialogue with Madeline on the train.
Score: LALD - SP punished again by Newman's laziness.
Settings: SP - I'd always rather have my Bond in Europe than the US.
Action: LALD - The bus and the boat chase, not to mention the crocodile jump, sufficient to cruise this one.
Humour: LALD - Sorry I know I shouldnt find JW funny but I do.
Cinematography: SP - Yellow filter aside there is some lovely work here whereas LALD looks like a TV movie for the most part.
Benign Bizarre: LALD - Voodoo, Baron Samedi, snakes, crocodiles. An easy win here.
Suspense: SP - Not much in either with a lack of really high stakes. SP's torture scene sneaks it by the thinnest of margins.
Minor Characters: SP - I think the quality of acting from the likes of Jesper and Monica is what sets SP apart from Rosie, Strutter and JW.
Glamour: SP - All day long. Apart from the Rolex theres not a lot in LALD that you aspire to.
Bond performance: SP - Probably Rog's weakest performance no match for Dan comfortable in the role.

Title track: LALD easy.
Title credits: LALD not that easy, love to octopus too, but LALD's is a better introduction to the film.
Main villain: LALD One of the most genuine played villains.
Main Bond Girl: SP, allthough very, very close. Jane is more classy too, I know. stil..
Henchman: SP, again very, very close, but Hinx is more menacing then TeeHee.
Plot: LALD, easy. And based on Fleming too.
Dialogue: LALD. One rather weak point in SP.
Score: LALD no question.
Settings: SP, even though I love LALD's too, but SP has more interesting places.
Action: LALD, crocs, boat chases, train fight. Yes, Hinx's was good, but TeeHee's is more exciting.
Humour: LALD, an omen to what was to come, but here not-yet over the top.
Cinematography: SP little competition here.
Benign Bizarre: LALD speaks for itself.
Suspense: LALD, SP just has less, as many action sceses fall flat.

Settings and Bond performance are the only ones that were close here - otherwise it's a bit on a landslide to LALD - as it should be.
LALD - 12
SP - 6
I suppose that is pretty bad, yeah, but nothing in the series is on the level of "Blofeld is really Bond's brother, and he's behind everything from Casino Royale to Skyfall!"
On another note, I'm surprised to see a fair number of people picking LALD's PTS. I'm not as high on SP's as some, but when I think of LALD it doesn't inspire a single emotion in me. The Dia de los Muertos parade is much better done than the jazz funeral, it has the lovely Mexican operative, the tracking shot, and the final helicopter fight. An easy choice, in my opinion.
Title track: LALD (a classic rock number over a simpering ballad?)
Title credits: SP (although the segue with the burning skull on LALD's makes it close)
Main villain: LALD (Kotto I find to be extremely underrated on this forum)
Main Bond Girl: SP (Again close. Both gorgeous, but as @TheWiz so elegantly stated above..)
Henchman: SP (Although Tee Hee is a hoot as well)
Plot: LALD (Refreshing simple)
Dialogue: SP
Score: LALD (Come on now)
Settings: SP
Action: SP
Humour: LALD (Because of Mankiewicz's great lines, not Sheriff Pepper, I might add)
Cinematography: SP*
Benign Bizarre: LALD (You had me at Voodoo! Mixing Voodoo with the world of Bond was a stroke of genius from Mr. Fleming)
Suspense: SP
Minor Characters: LALD (One of the finest villains ensembles in the series)
Glamour: SP
Bond Performance: SP
LALD - 7
SP – 11
Two wins in a row for SP.
*About the SP's cinematography. The filter that was evident in the cinemas, was almost removed on my Blu-Ray. Anyone noticed that the filter was greatly reduced for the Blu Ray? Or is it just me?
Title track: LALD (No contest. A musical genius versus a lugubrious lightweight.)
Title credits: SP (SP's ambitious Lovecraftian imagery barely beats Binder's minimalism.)
Main villain: LALD (Kotto has a bit more presence.)
Main Bond Girl: SP (A tossup really, but there's something about Seydoux...)
Henchman: LALD (Hinx is terrific, but he can't beat TeeHee, Whisper, Baron Samedi and Adam)
Plot: SP (Simply more gravitas from this underrated aspect of SP.)
Dialogue: LALD (Some of the best in all of Bond, really.)
Score: LALD (It goes without saying...)
Settings: SP (I like the NYC/Harlem setting a great deal, but SP's combo of Europe and North Africa is hard to beat.)
Action: SP (Not a real strength for either entry.)
Humour: LALD (No contest. LALD is almost as funny as DAF.)
Cinematography: SP
Benign Bizarre: LALD (But just barely. SP is Craig's best in this category.)
Suspense: LALD (Another coin toss.)
Minor Characters: LALD (I have to reward LALD's realism--and Jaydubya Peppah--somewhere. And Sideburns the Cabbie is a riot.)
Glamour: SP (LALD doesn't even try in this area.)
Bond Performance: LALD (Both are excellent, but I'll give the palm to Rog simply because I respect him as a man far more than Craig.)

4 - 13 - 1 in favor of Live and Let Die
It wasn't specifically aimed at anyone, but seeing that some here can't even find one point in SP they like compared to any film makes it bias if you ask me. Especially compared to a film like DAF, which for all intents and purposes just isn't a very well made film. Sure you can prefer DAF over SP, but i.e. claiming DAF's pts is better then SP's is just... unbeleavable.
I do agree that some people's picks have been baffling (and I was early on the "SP isn't that good" train), but the whole enterprise is based on bias. I'm biased for GF and against TMWTGG, and as hard as I might try to find things I like in TMWTGG, it just won't be there.
Like I've always said: if all of us agreed on everything, this place would be boring.
Still, I thought it would be much closer, as opposed to LALD walking it.
Aye. Odd how some in these parts stake their MI6 identity on despising and ridiculing SP. Clearly SP is not a classic, but it's equally clear that it's not stink-bomb. SP is a mid-level Bond film that has many consolations and a few obvious weaknesses.
I chalk this up to MI6 being a bit of a SP-bashing echo chamber. "Hey, all the kool kidz hate SPECTRE, guess I'd better hate it too." The herd instinct is powerful in the human species.
