Like asking Guinness or Bud light. Guinness by a long shot.
1. Dr. No
2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
3. Thunderball
4. Licence to Kill
5. GoldenEye
6. Casino Royale
7. Skyfall
8. The World Is Not Enough
9. For Your Eyes Only
10. Diamonds Are Forever
11. The Man with the Golden Gun
Now I see how little James actually went to a casino. Did I miss one?
You lot know my bias and psychotic love for GE, but nothing will ever beat Connery's too-cool introduction in DN.
You just gave me an idea for a new thread
Thanks
That was exactly my idea but great suggestion. Though i wasn't sure if i should make it it just as the best Casino scene or put together the best party or Casino scene in one poll / Thread
Maybe just list all the candidate scenes including OP and let us vote ...and argue. :D
this is exactly what im gonna do.
Thanks for the suggestion
1. Dr. No casino (definitive)
2. Thunderball casino (Largo's intensity + Connery's cool make the scene)
3. Casino Royale casino (Craig, Green & Mikkelsen are what it's all about)
4. Quantum of Solace party (incredibly crisp colours and ambience)
5. On Her Majesty's Secret Service casino (iconic)
6. Skyfall casino (Severine makes the scene)
7. The Spy Who Loved Me Mojaba Club (great, classy stuff)
8. For Your Eyes Only casino (not one of the film's more memorable scenes, but classic style nevertheless)
9. Licence to Kill casino (impressive due to Lowell & Soto, despite Dalton's questionable hairdo)
10. Tomorrow Never Dies Hamburg party (didn't like Bond being slapped at all, but the setting is high tech & cool)
11. Die Another Day Ice Palace party (Berry impresses in that dress)
12. Goldeneye casino (let down by Brosnan's evident self consciousness)
13. Diamonds Are Forever casino ('Plenty' makes the scene - pure cheese)
14. The World Is Not Enough casino (not one of my favourites, as the 'soap' element is evident even here)
I'm sure I've missed some.
You're right. I'd rank it 7th, between CR and SF.
1. Dr No - I hope I don't need to explain why.
2. Casino Royale - Intense and some great sequences, as well as some great intermissions to keep the scene from dragging. Excellent performances from everyone here.
3. Thunderball - Connery's class and Largo's subtle threats sell this one. Definitely one of Bond's best casino scenes.
4. Skyfall - Craig's very confident here and his Bond matches up well against Severine. For some reason, the general ambience of this scene is more appealing, even though it's quite different to a lot of Bond's typical casino moments.
5. Octopussy - I love all of Roger's suave comebacks to Louis Jourdan, and I especially love Roger declaring the dice roll as a double six without even looking down. Classy, confident portrayals from everyone here.
6. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - I'd like to put this higher but Lazenby's performance here is flat-out bad. Diana Rigg is great, however.
7. The Spy Who Loved Me - I like this mostly for Kalba's dismissal of "My name is Bond, James Bond" (which gets a laugh out of me every time), and for Jaws killing Kalba, which is a very nice scene and juxtaposed very well with the dancing. Roger and Bach are also very good here (this is one of the few scenes where Bach can actually act, and Roger's classy and confident as always).
8. For Your Eyes Only - Not a fan of the actual card game, but Julian Glover is fantastic as Kristatos here. That alone sells this scene.
9. Licence to Kill - I'm ranking this as just the blackjack sequence, not Bond meeting up with Sanchez. Dalton looks more intense than confident here, and he overacts a bit, but I love his suave walk into room and his vodka martini order (much better than the one in TLD).
10. GoldenEye - It's good, but it could've been better. Brosnan is taking way too many obvious cues, even when saying "Bond, James Bond". Smooth delivery, though.
11. Diamonds Are Forever - This one's just here for Connery's "Named after your father, perhaps?" line. Pure brilliance.
12. Die Another Day - Brosnan's at much more ease than his earlier casino/party scenes, but nothing really happens in this one.
13. The World Is Not Enough - He's more confident than in TND, that's about it. Well, I guess I do like him kicking the ass of that thug. :)
14. Tomorrow Never Dies - This one's even worse than GE in terms of cues. It's so obvious when Brosnan introduces himself that people are signalling him (the way he darts his eyes to the side before he introduces himself gives it away). The performances here seem a bit stiff, even the slap that Paris gives Bond.
15. Quantum of Solace - Hardly even remember this one. Just doesn't stand out. It's not necessarily bad (if it was, I'd remember that), but obviously a far cry from the CR casino scene.
He is? Well, it's all a matter of perspective I guess... But he hardly even made it into my perspective, I think on my first-time viewing of all the Bond films FYEO was the only one where I could not identify the villain, until say, he died, and even then I was not completely sure. Even in QOS I could identify the villain.
