In these rankings, GE's cast is INVINCIBLE!!!
  • GoldenEye seems to be the movie everybody mentions when it comes to good ensemble cast.

It's just that there's literally no weak link. Everyone does what they need to do perfectly. And all the villains are bang on.

The villains is a big reason why I love golden eye so much and will overlook the films shortcomings

Out of the entire series, the villain trifecta of Trevelyn, Onnatopp, and Ourumov is pretty impossible to beat. There are some fair contenders (maybe Khan, Gobinda, and Orlov; or Klebb, Grant, and Kronsteen; or Kananga, Samedi, and Tee Hee), but I really can't think of a better three in a single film.

Yeah, Octopussy has a whole host of great villains. The twins are particular favorites of mine.

    Best ensemble cast-

    1. FRWL (faultless)
    2. OHMSS (again, faultless)
    3. GF
    4. DN
    5. OP (primarily for Jourdan, Berkoff, Adams)
    6. LALD (minus point for Hendry)
    7. CR
    8. AVTAK (Walken, Jones, Macnee)
    9. LTK (Davi, Del Toro, Lowell, Zerbe)
    10. DAF
    11. QOS
    12. SF
    13. FYEO
    14. GE (I've really gone off Bean as of late)
    15. TMWTGG (Solely for Lee and Adams)
    16. MR (Good cast, but a little bland)
    17. YOLT (For Gray, Dor, Hama)
    18. TWINE
    19. TND
    20. SP (Should have been excellent performances all round, instead we get a muddled performance from Waltz, an uninspiring one from Seydoux and of course, there's always Kinnear's drabness)
    21. TSWLM (look where my favourite Bond film landed!)
    22. TLD (for Krabbé and Davies)
    23. TB (Paluzzi is the only jewel amongst a cast of sheer dullness)
    24. DAD (you know the score)
  • Best ensemble cast-

    14. GE (I've really gone off Bean as of late)

I'll say you have to rank GE so low in the ensemble department! I'll chalk your placement of GE at #14 up to the following:

Give me your favourite Guilty Pleasure Bond films:

    Mine:

    1. DAF
It's so ridiculously bad in places that it's already great fun again to view it. Add a fantastic score and brilliantly witty and funny dialogue to it and there you have the PERFECT GUILTY PLEASURE BOND FILM.

    2. QOS
The least Bondian film of the series is such a relentless action-roller-coaster ride that it makes it the most re-watchable. Even if I cringe at the monstrosity of a gun-barrel and bond theme, there is the most underrated side-character ever, Elvis, one of the best Bond girls, Camille and some ridiculously edited action.

    3. AVTAK
You can't recognise who is the oldest in that movie. Moneypenny? M? Q? Macnee? Or is it Bond after all??
His eyejob is more hilarious than all jokes in DAF combined.
But still, it is sheer fun to watch this movie. Add the best ever, THE BEST EVER, Bond theme to it and one of the very best scores and you got a guilty pleasure of gigantic proportions.

    4. TMWTGG
Only Lee saves this film from being utter trash? Maybe. But hey, Goodnight is yummy to the max and I still get a bo*n*r everytime she bends over in her negligee, and isn't she just lovely always trying to help poor Rog.
Scaramanga and what must be the most fascinating villains lair of the series makes this a great watch, always. Moore is on top of his game already in his first Bond.
The Guilty Pleasure With The Golden Gun

    5. MR
Probably the easiest Bond film to watch. Fun from start to finish, cartoonish action and I want to stand up and clap everytime the laser fight begins. Darth Vader would be proud.
Holly Goodhead is sexy as hell and every scene she's in makes my mind wander...
Hugo Drax is probably the most ridiculous of all villains still I totally love him and hasn't he the greatest dialogue ever!!

I think MR has some great stuff in it. And overall I think it does the TSWLM plot better than TSWLM. DAF (especially the second half) annoys me and I think Brosnan's weaker films (TND and TWINE) don't hold much ironic enjoyment for me and DAD is pretty awful. So that doesn't leave too many guilty pleasures so the two for me are:

    1. AVTAK (Nostalgia is the big reason for me. Cracking title tune and score. But the plot is meandering. I love May Day's campiness and menace. There's so much to dislike about this film - but I still enjoy watching it.)

    2. NSNA (It's non-Eon. But Klaus Maria Brandeur and Barbara Carerra are terrific fun and would actually influence EON - maybe subconsciously - when they came to put together Walken and Grace Jones in the very next film? The Shrublands section of NSNA is superior to TB's. I also think Connery is having a great old time and that's infectious.)
  • TWINE is the only one that I accept as bad but like. I like OP, for example, but don't consider it a guilty pleasure, I genuinely think it is one of the best.

    Guilty Pleasures:

    1. DAF. I agree with @w2Bond on this one. It's so bad that it is "classically" bad. It's B-movie stuff.
    2. LTK. The title song is so 80s cheesy that I love it.
    3. AVTAK. This has to be watched late night, in bed, with a bowl of cereal.
    4. TMWTGG. An AMC Hornet vs Matador car chase/stunt in Thailand?

Guilty pleasures in Bond films? I have just 5:

    1. DAF, for its campiness and for being an unintentional period piece.
    2. TMWTGG, for its campiness, again, HK film tone.
    3. CR'67 (see DAF).
    4. NSNA (see DAF and CR'67).
    5. MR (guess why. I think you'll see a pattern here).

If you want to count out the unofficial ones, you're welcome to do so.

BTW, Birdleson is right: we already had a thread about this.

    1. MR- I can pretty much watch this whenever I want. Top 5 material for me, it's just so damn fun and the pacing is exceptional..

    2. DAF- My second favorite Connery film. I do get turned off once the oil rig scene starts. But I still always enjoy it.

    3. YOLT- I never was a huge fan until recent. Equivalent to SP in many ways.

    4. QOS- I enjoy more when I watch CR right before. Great epilogue to CR.

    5. SP- No surprise to me that 3 of the 4 Craig films are in my top 5. Yes, there were many missed opportunities and the trailers did deceive me slightly, but I always enjoy what we got.

Silly, infantile and ridiculous. But oh so watchable and enjoyable.

    A sunday afternoon Bond film.

I always skip the Gondola hovercraft scene though.

Worst moment along with the Beach Boys song in AVTAK in the series.

I don't necessarily have "guilty pleasures" - I like what I like and hate what I hate - but I guess the one that could be somewhat considered as a "guilty pleasure" is AVTAK: regardless of ranking, it's beyond fun, underrated (Moore's age and a few other bits seem to overshadow all the good parts for some viewers), and will always be one of my favorites.

The Gondola is right at home in a Moore film, so I can live with that. Jaws falling in love, that really gets me the wrong way.

You're are right. When a series becomes a parody of itself it's in trouble.

Luckily the makers came to their senses and made FYEO.

The scenes I would snip out of MR...

Jaws falling into the circus tent. The scene could have ended with Moore pulling his rip-cord and escaping Jaws clutches.

The whole Gondola sequence. You could have Bond's conversation with M and then cut to Bond entering the glass factory.

The Jaws falling in love scene.

The awful scene of Moore dressed as Clint Eastwood with (I think the Magnificent 7 theme) playing

All the shots of Jaws gurning when his boat is about to go over the falls.

Without those scenes MR would be a far fetched but very good Bond adventure.

It's still an entertaining film but those stupid bits really grate.
