I'm surprised how Cold Winter never got a remaster. For an acclaimed classic written by Warren Ellis, you'd think the game would be popular among audiences. It's Die Another Day done in the style of the Bourne narrative.

I'd like to think that it was what a videogame adaption of a Daltonised DAD would have looked it. I wish that that the PS4 could play PS2 discs.
I have to play it again sometime. It's been a while. I wish it saw a release on Windows PC back then.

@MajorDSmythe, it appears it has been published by Vivendi and Sierra in different regions, and developed by Swordfish. With three of them already defunct, who knows who holds the rights to game? I believe its IP is lost somewhere, likely to be a belonging of Ellis'. I'm sensing a similar case to that of the No One Lives Forever license.

I feel the same way, sorting through the rights might cause a massive headache. Still, if you can find a working PS2, and it is compatable with modern tvs, the game will be dirt cheap now....
I still have my PS2 (but I safely boxed it away earlier this year, when I bought my PS4). With games like Cold Winter, NOLF, Bloodrayne 1 & 2, SpyHunter etc.. there is no way I am getting rid of that console or the games.

I was going to buy Assassin's Creed: Origins, but changed my mind at the last minute (and saved some money) and bought:

    Dirt 4
I am glad to see that Codemasters have fixed the difficulty from Dirt Rally. But I wish they would use more vintage rally cars. Back when this series was Colin McRae Rally, one of the games had a little MGB Seabring, I would like to see that appear. I love driving the Mini Cooper on the UK stages, the car caked in mud, rain pouring down, wipers going, and Nicky Grist calling out the pace notes.

    Assassin's Creed Origins

It's like Skyrim, Zelda Breath of The Wild and AC 4 all had a beautiful baby together. Not far in but I think this might be the best open world ever in a game. The graphics look like real life in some scenes (even better than Unity), it's really well designed/made and exploring is so rewarding. It seems really dynamic too, even moreso than the last few games, with random animal attacks and stuff like that. Love the new combat too, it's easy to pick up and difficult to master, and the story is really interesting so far, although I keep getting distracted with other quests.

I'm really enjoying it and if it holds up this well until the end then it could be a strong contender for the best in the series imo (well, not sure anything could dethrone AC 2 but we'll see).

I've never heard of this game before but now I really want to play it. Might have to get the ps2 out then have a look on ebay for it.

Take Dalton:Bond in LTK, push him further down the burned out direction, then drop him straight into DAD (with a darker tougher style), and that gives you a rough idea of Cold Winter.

Ex-SAS operative turned MI6 agent, Andrew Sterling, is caught while on a mission in China. MI6 deny knowledge of his existence, and when interrogation and torture fail (he is ex-SAS, so he's an impossible nut to crack), the Chinese lock him away in a political prison, with the intent of executing him on the dawn of the Chinese new year. In the last few hours before his execution, an old friend turns up to break Sterling out, and make him a job offer.

That's the opening of the game.

Sold. Think I know what I'm playing once I finish Assassin's Creed.

Speaking of Assassin's Creed, played a bit more of it and the attention to detail is really stunning. If you wear an outfit with a mask his voice is muffled. If you fall from a high place but not high enough to kill you then he'll limp for a bit before he recovers. The attention to detail is amazing. I missed not having a new game last year but if this sort of stuff is what came from the extra year then every two years is fine by me.

Just played the first level on my emulator. It’s been a while. While I may have issues with some of the features, the game is actually a lot better than I remembered from my last time.

@MajorDSmythe I can say this game is a mixture of No One Lives Forever 2, and Soldier of Fortune: Double Helix as well as bearing elements of IGI 2: Covert Strike. I see why you’re fond of this game.

The last time I played it, it hit me just how of its time the game looked. The gameplay still held up, though. I have often wondered what a sequel would be like, as men like Sterling aren't build for retirement.

Nope, I’m sure he’ll find a way to get back into the service as an outside help for them when, let’s just say, Britain falls into a political propaganda within the Intelligence world, and Andrew Sterling would be the outside help for approach since the MI6 can’t use one of their own.

The more that I think about it, the more that I want it to happen. With the right incentive, an older Sterling could be lured out of the wilderness, for his country.

Picked this up on PSN for about $5 the other day. It's not too bad. Most reviews talked about how disappointed they were so that probably lowered my expectations. So far I'm enjoying myself.

Sunk so many hours into it and I definitely got my money's worth, but damn, if it didn't have some issues. I'm a bit curious to see if the third person aiming is still entirely broken or not. Eventually killed my interest in the game, but thankfully by that point I was already pretty filled up on the content and had the Platinum Trophy.

I bought the Mk 2 Ford Escort. Rear wheel drive = a new level of fun. The last stage I raced was in Spain, in the pouring rain. There were a couple of hairy moments, I can tell you. This might just be my favourite rally game. Though I wish there were more classic rally cars.

    Friday The 13th
As it was only £1.40, I bought the Halloween costume DLC pack. As I play as Vanessa (her speed and stamina are the best of the counselors), I was a little disappointed to not hear the 70's Wonder Woman theme when I break into a sprint. That would have been funny (her costume is Wonder Woman-esque).
  • Still playing Assassin's Creed and earlier I came across this cool easter egg and thought of you @MajorDSmythe (photo isn't mine found it on google just now, but the photo mode is so much fun by the way)

Recently gave up on finishing Perfect Dark. No interest left. There are people who claim that this game is better than GE N64. There are also people who eat cats. There's no accounting for taste I guess.

Played Halo: Reach on my $20 thrift-store Xbox 360. Pretty good game. I'll likely continue playing the series at some point.

While we're on the subject of shooting aliens, I still think that Aliens: Colonial Marines is better that either of these two games. I'm likely in the minority here. Although, a great deal of the hate directed at A:CM came before several major patches were released by the developers. Having first played the game years after its release, I was spared seeing its pre-patched state.

Finished RE : Revelations and was in a mood to try out older Resident Evil titles ; Re 2 and Nemesis. Can't believe it must've been a decade since I last played RE 2. Never played Nemesis before. I'm kind of nervous to meet the nemesis monster for the first time. Heard it chases you everywhere (save for the 'save' rooms).

You're in for a treat with Nemesis. What's stopped you from playing it until now?

Not sure why since I have played almost every RE title (1,2, 4-7, Code Veronica and both Revelations).

Of the PlayStation 1 games, Nemesis ranks as my favorite. It's my second favorite RE title overall. It's not a very long game, nor an insanely difficult one, but it's always memorable.

Truth be told; haven't found nemesis very intimitating yet. I have been more intimitated by the chainsaw wielding monsters in the later games.

But that must be because I'm terrified by chainsaws. Never used on, never will.

Nemesis is just a terminator and terminators aren't scary. Unless they use chainsaws ;)

    Grand Theft Auto III.

I got this and Agent Under Fire when I got my PS2 in mid-2002. Still every bit of fun as the day I got it.

I've been playing them in chronological order (by year they take place). So far I've gotten 100% game completion on Vice City Stories, Vice City, San Andreas and Liberty City Stories. Here I've been trying to do the side stuff (certain things become almost impossible as you progress through the story). Having one hell of a time trying to complete the ambulance side mission. They changed how delicate and the handling of it in later titles so it's extremely difficult here. I ended up glitching to the second island to complete stuff over there before trying to attempt it again.

    World at War.

With the release of the new COD this week, I've gone back and looked at this one. Very dark but fun game. A lot of people may not agree with me, but I think I prefer this one over COD4.

@CrzChris4, so you got the Godfather rating for Vice City, too? If so I can only assume like those of us who did, you did the rubberband trick for it?

Also, you want some fun, beat WaW on Veteran difficulty. Still stands as my greatest gaming accomplishment, I think.

    Assassin's Creed Origins

I think I've played enough now to confidently say that it's better than Black Flag, and I was going to call it the best since AC 2. But if I'm being completely honest, while AC 2 may have been more groundbreaking for its time, this one is better in almost every single way. It's the best Assassin's Creed imo and for me that's very high praise. Can't wait to play more and see what's next for the series from here.

Okay, I was wrong about Nemesis. He was pretty intimitating after his first mutation. Was on the edge of my seat almost the whole time.

Now playing RE 2 as Claire, then Code Veronica and Revelations 2.

Ahh, I meant the 100% game completion stat itself. I have played them all on the Playstation 2. Recently I bought a disk version of the PS3 remaster, but I've read there's some big differences and musical omissions. I will play it again soon, since it's one of those games from my childhood I don't think I'll ever get bored with - the amount of stuff to do, the voice work and detail is still unmatched by many open world games to this day.

I have started World at War on Veteran...I've gotten close to beating it in the past but have never actually been able to complete all levels on that difficulty. Mad props for actually doing it.

I play on PS3 - anyone can feel free to add me. My username is CrzChris5. Just mention the forum name in the message.
  • Okay so in Assassin's Creed Origins, after a certain point in the story, the main villain gets sick of you and sends Phylake's out into the world to hunt you down. They're these massive bounty hunter enemies who are basically impossible to kill and I think of all the things the game has changed and added this is my favourite. There are a certain amount of them but until you've managed to kill them all they can turn up out of nowhere, at any time to ruin your day. For example when I played it today I was clearing out an enemy camp but I got found out and they sent for reinforcements. Okay, I thought. I'm getting the hang of the new fighting system now and I've got some decent gear. Maybe I can manage. Then I saw that with the reinforcements was one of those bastards. Nope. I just barely managed to escape.

It adds a really cool new twist on it imo because you're always being hunted by them, you really feel like an outlaw, that what you've been doing is actually having an impact. I just love how dynamic and open the whole game feels. Even Skyrim didn't feel as unpredictable and full of adventure as this. Can't recommend it enough.

@thelivingroyale, makes me think of the second Bioshock installment, where you'd have three interactions with those Little Sisters before a special enemy was dispatched into the world to attack you, regardless of where you are.

Definitely not as random as what you described, but I do love "unscripted" moments like that, too.
