I was wondering if there were any fans here of the author Herbert Asbury (1889-1963)?

His most famous work would be The Gangs of New York: An Informal History of the Underworld (1927) and The Barbary Coast: An Informal History of the San Francisco Underworld (1933).

Martin Scorsese filmed the first of these as Gangs of New York in 2002 and this brought about the reissue of Asbury's books on American gangs.

I currently have three of Asbury's books on American gangs of the C19th in New York, San Francisco and New Orleans.

I'd love to hear from any fans of Herbert Asbury on here, if in fact there are any!

There are more details about Herbert Asbury here:

Sorry @Dragonpol but sadly all my reading is trashy thrillers, no
    intellectual stuff. :(

Not to worry, @Thunderpussy. I read thrillers too - nothing wrong with that. :)
