CR still is the high point of all this and if you think that only the 4th movie is on it's way then I have to wonder how the next 10 years will play out. I'm rather worried we'll get only new Bond movies every 3-4 years.

Unbelieveable. It looks like it was yesterday.

Ah! Grand memories. I remember seeing Mr. Daniel Craig's picture in a newspaper for the announcement. I was 17. :)

I was really bummed. I admit I didn't like the idea at all. Of course, I eventually came around, but I really had hoped pierce would've come back for one last outing to make up for die another day.

Again there is nothing to make up for.
DAD worked and was what the audience wanted at the time.

Did Craig have to make up for QOS?

I remember being pleasantly surprised that EoN had gone with an original choice from left-field... "Thank goodness they actually chose a good ACTOR this time", I said out loud.

As I've said - a lot of Bond fans don't realize how good they have it, DC makes it look so easy but that is because he is a very good actor, never over- or underplaying the part too much, Dan gets the balance of the character just right.

Yes, after quantum, they needed a finished script and a good director and a young priest and an old priest

I didn't give too much attention to anything Bond in the years between DAD and CR, but had seen Layer Cake just prior to the announcement, and kept an open mind- "Okay, I can see that. Let's give him a shot." Anyway, hope Dan does Bond25 and another!

I knew Craig from his extraordinary performance in OFITN so was a fan of his acting but it was Layer Cake that made me think he could be the new Bond.

I remember being in Malta airport waiting to board a plane home with my Wife and the news was breaking. I was delighted after having 7 years of not really caring about the films despite going to see all of them. Craig's appointment got me back into the series in a big way once again.

DAD might have been a box office hit but a rethink was most definitely was on the cards and the reboot was the wisest option. The evidence shows that however much you dislike his era , it's been a resounding success and just because of some of you don't like SF doesn't mean it won't be one of the classics of the series.

Yes fans will say CR but the general public voted for SF in a big way and it still gets great reviews in TV listing magazines whenever it's screened. I know some of you would be liked to be proved right but SF is the new GF get used to it.

I agree, after the OTT, sci-fi almost comic adaption like DAD they had to change direction.
I never minded Brosnan not getting a fifth movie. I just worried about another long gap between films. Luckily this time it was "only" 4 years.
By the way I fully agree that Craig's acting is better than Brosnan's strictly speaking of the Bond movies.

SF is not the new GF, I don't believe so.
CR is the one that belongs to the group of the truly greats like GF, FRWL and OHMSS.

SF is the new TB. Both were the insane success at their time and generally loved by all.
But both movies are flawed and if you look at the general consensus, CR always is regarded as the better movie, at least that is what I perceive. Also I believe once Spectre is released which I believe will probably be in the CR quality region, Skyfall will somewhat get more levelheaded opinions as the hype and glorified view on it has passed then.

SF still gets rave reviews because it deserves them and I can agree that it belongs into a Top 10 list, if more at the bottom of such a list, but that's really (like almost everything) a matter of opinion.
There is a thin line between being truly great and "only" being very good. Skyfall, imho, never stepped over that line into the truly great area but clearly belongs to the very good group.

By the way, I don't have an "agenda". Whatever that means anyway. If you got offended by one of my less intelligent posts I am sorry. Sometimes things get heated and I admit until recently not being very good at this game.
I see things more calmly and relaxed now. If Brosnan gets that much heat around here then that's that and I learn to live with it or take it with humour.
I do like to fight for the underdog though, so I'll continue giving some counterbalance whenever I feel it's necessary.
And believe it or not, Timothy Dalton is my hero, for him I could get quite "obsessed" but he more or less gets ignored on this forum, so there's hardly ever any "fight" about him or I'd be there to defend him :)

I actually don't really know how you rate all the Bond movies, did you rank them? Would be interesting to know.

And to stay on topic for at least one sentence :))
Happy 10th Anniversary to the announcement of Daniel Craig becoming Bond No 6.

I was only 22 then.. How time flies. Ends up being a great Bond. Casino Royale was his benchmark. Let's hope he can do one last one after Spectre. He is currently tied with Brosnan with four Bond films. I'm hoping he can do five, thus outdoing Brosnan..

Speaking about age, I'm the same age now as Craig was then, so from now on my chances of becoming James Bond are decreasing daily. I still haven't given up hope, though. [-O< :D

Lol.. Again with regards to age, Brosnan was 49 when he did his last role as Bond in DAD. Craig is currently 47 for Spectre. He still has a couple of years left in him for another Bond, one last one thats for sure..

Many friends saw SF I remember and they are not hardcore bond fans .. They told me SF is the best bond movie ever and its so classic ..

I saw the movie twice in the cinema, and probably one more time at home .. I dont think its a classic and Im afraid to say that I do prefer QOS than it .. I will be watching the movie sometime next week to finish the marathon .. I will see how I feel about it this time ..

Jason are you Schizophrenic, cause usually you write a load uneducated drivel (joking). But then I just read that and thought that put together well, I agree with most it. All I will add is that Spectre will bring CR, QOS and Skyfall in to an alignment the experience of watching all 4 back to back with be incredible I am sure of it. Skyfall is a dark film and not a lot of old school fans cup of team, however it will be integral to the over all picture and the 4 films together will hopefully form one big film.

It was announced in 2005. I remember not being very pleased. I was completely wrong, Daniel is the best Bond since Sean Connery. Looking back....nervous at the press conference wasn't he.
