With Idris Elba as a villain no one would pay attention to the Bond actor. The obvious question of how much better he'd be as Bond would be unavoidable. You shouldn't cast an actor for the villain, M, sidekick, etc. who would outshine the Bond actor.

To be fair you could say that Fiennes (who was considered for Bond at one point) is in that category. Same for Colin Salmon to some extent. Jack Lord as Leiter too.

I think much of it is about how the actors play off each other, and of course the confidence of the Bond actor. But you can definitely have actors playing supporting roles who are larger than life. I think Elba as M or a villain would be fine.

If we follow the tradition of Oscar winners...Cillian Murphy.

The other thing is that Idris Elba is way pass the age to play Bond, like Fiennes was when he got cast as M.

I think they had exactly the right idea when they cast actors like Mads and Amalric as villains - not that well known outside Europe, but really good character actors. Not sure who the modern equivalents are - but I bet EON do.

I definitely want them to go back to cast relatively unknown veteran actors as villains especially.

It really depends for me. Sometimes for every Mads Mikkelson (who I wouldn't call unknown but had only really been acting for 10 years and was lesser known to American/UK audiences) you need a Christopher Lee or Donald Pleasance (essentially someone much more well known/commercially successful).

Christopher Lee and Pleasence were better known, but they were not big stars. Lee was a B movie actor and Pleasence mostly played supporting roles. I'd argue that it's Halloween that truly made Pleasence famous.

Fair enough, not my time etc.

But yeah, I think it just depends on the part and the actor in question. You never know who you can get gold out of.

I don't think there's a type which suits it more than any of the others, or guarantees more success really: a Euro actor can be a Mads Mikkelsen, or on the other hand we can get a Curt Jurgens or Adolfo Celi. A British one can be a Christopher Lee, or a slightly less successful Jonathan Pryce; an Hollywood star can give us a Javier Bardem or Robert Davi, or it could give us a maybe more forgettable Joe Don Baker.
If they'd stuck to unknown veterans we wouldn't have got Silva as we did, and I think that would rob us of one of the best Bond villains ever.

Of course ultimately it's a case by case basis, but as a general rule I prefer "unknown" veterans. I don't think Davi and Bardem were in the same league when they were cast as Bond villains. Bardem was more famous and renowned, yet less Hollywood. He's Spanish after all. And for the record, I found both Celi and Jurgens suitable for their respective character.

    Mahershala Ali https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0991810/

I am not intrest in Blade as some other people do and now it look like Blade is canceld, but already before i whas thinking what if Universal (together with MGM/Amazon) wil ask him for Bond 26. Asking him for Jurassic World 4 / Jurassic Park 7 is step 1. Time for another Black villian again.

Mabey he can be actor for role of Tamil Rahani (Chacter of John Gardner Role of Honour/Nobody Lives For Ever) what means there can let him return for Bond 27.

I think training camp description of Tamil Rahani can be intresting. Inspecialy next to earlier sugest idea's including my sugestion of ''Sea Of Fire'' as title based on Seafire of John Gardner. No Spectre, but that he working together with Quantum style of solo guy/woman (who is weapon dealer) who get group behind him/her.
