    Whatever anyone wants to say about John Glen, he sure could put great action into his Bond films. The TLD chase as mentioned is one of his best. And the use of gadgets is well done. From the laser that slices the car in two, to the rockets that destroy the roadblock. It all goes together to make for a thrilling action set piece. Topped off, by Bond and Kara's escape into Austria.

    @Benny Yes not all of Glen's movies rank high for me but with FYEO, OP, TLD, and LTK in particular I can't help but bolt up to the edge of my seat when the action starts. And with TLD it definitely doesn't hurt that the chase is all transpiring in such a stunning locale. I know you and I rank OP very differently but you'll get little argument with me over the film's chase sequences, which I consider among the movie's greatest assets.

    Is it unpopular to like J.W. Pepper? I think he plays off Moore wonderfully.

They should have left the humor for the parachute escape only.

    Plus, it's a car chase that costs tens of millions of dollars, and nothing happens really. Aside from Bond ejecting out at the end and smashing the roof off the parked car, there really isn't anything unique or exciting to the chase, especially for the amount of money spent.

    I personally wouldn't vote on how a particular chase broke (or didn't break) the budget of a film, partly because I don't know the franchise history to that extent. I don't think that money would have made the rest of the film any better. If anything the money just gets in the way of good storytelling. It's pretty easy just to indict it on that alone.

    To show it some love, it did emphasize how unflappable Hinx is without the old tropes like a punch to the midsection being brushed off. I mean, he took a flamethrower to his car and still forced Bond to make a getaway.

    Even if you don't look at the budget, it's still a chase of all style, no substance. Nothing of interest in it for me, aside from a few brief shots and one piece of the score.

    Yeah, the chase is can be fairly uneventful and the phone call with Moneypenny would have been better placed with Bond walking the streets of Rome after landing on the bridge. However, I still do find it entertaining and there are certainly a number of weaker car chases that should get voted down before it, IMO.

    It's well staged, and set up. The logistics of setting up such a scene are impressive. But, looking at it as a viewer it's far too silly. Bond swinging on the ladder, knocking peoples hats off. The couple in the camper van that the police chief ogles. And then finally going over the swing bridge and the fate of the hapless San Francisco 'keystone' cops.
    Silliness turned up to 11.
