Actually I just realized that you're missing TSWLM, its fifth on my list. SF is no longer on mine (bumped out by QOS).
TSWLM is a film I greatly enjoyed in younger years but I actually stopped it in the middle the last 2 times I watched it - somehow I grew out of it. It's still a good movie, for many Roger Moore's best one but I just got tired of it somehow. Same with YOLT (narrowly made my TOP 10) and DAF ...

My Top 5 I can watch anytime and since most of them are Connery Bonds I did that for many many years - never get bored by them. CR was an instant hit to me right after I left the theater - SF grew over time and I realized how much I like it by constantly re-picking it when flipping through my 50 years BD collection.

I never understood why many underrate or kind of hate QoS though. To me, if they would not have screwed up the editing, it would be an excellent continuation of CR. And it would be just that: change the insane editing and create a better title track. I like the settings, I like the story, like the soundtrack. I am always glad to hear somebody also likes it since compared to other highly valued entries in the series it seems really underrated. Maybe this movie will be seen a bit like OHMSS years later - a movie not really appreciated in it's time but for good reason on many people's TOP 10 list nowadays.

    But they did.

If people get so worked up by the slide whistle, the pigeon, the jetpack, I don't see how I can overlook the editing that dominates the entire film. It's a shame because Quantum is otherwise a beautiful film.

The editing bothered me greatly the first time i viewed it, because it was hard to take in what was happening in the action scenes. But the more you watch it the less a problem it is, and I'm at a stage now where i wouldn't have the editing any other way! But its a good point that QOS will definitely be more appreciated in years to come. There is so much more to it than the fast editing!

I've never had issue with the editing either. Some parts are iffy, sure, but over time you know what's going on through repeat viewing and then its effects wear off. I love the film with the editing, and with improved, less spastic editing I'd love it all the more. I'm just happy it exists, really.

No forum member with amphetamine addiction has a problem with the editing.
  • The moment when Mitchell shoots and 'almost' hits M is horrendous. The way it is shot and edited it is impossible to tell that M was not hit. The first time I saw it I thought she'd even been killed before suddenly there she is on the balcony in the next scene! That disengaged me from the whole picture.

I'll give that the editing works in some places and some places only. The scaffolding fight seems to work, as does the knife fight. The Tosca chase is very moving somehow. And I suppose the plane chase is decent. Everything else I could live without thank you.

We do get that shot of her running out afterwards. Still, the shot of the bullet ricocheting off the pole is a blink-and-miss moment.

It is easy, if you're not paying really close attention, to mistake Mr. White and M for each other. The way it is edited leaves too much to the imagination.

Honorable mentions for two films that could have made the list on a different day -- Octopussy and From Russian With Love. And yes, that wasn't a typo -- DAD made my top 10. Unforgivable CGI aside, I had a blast watching it at the theater. A really fun exeprience. And yes, I am of sound body and mind. Thank you.

Honourable mentions to Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice, wanted to include them but just couldn't fit them in. There's a surprising lack of Connery actually. Which is weird because I've always thought of his era as the overall best and most consistent outside of Dalton. I guess while they're all good (well, except DAF) I just didn't love that many of them like I do most of my top ten.

Also, can I suggest doing the same thing with the actors at some point down the line once this is done?

Well, we're only six days away from the start of the reveal of the forum's ranking, so I'd say it's all been well timed, @Gustav_Graves. You should be proud you drummed up so much interest and discussion.

I am looking at my Excel file right now :-). And I am indeed proud of all those 109 voters :-). It's quite a large poll sample....given the fact that I was expecting beforehand at most around 80 to 85 voters.

Although I must say I promoted a bit too. And Bill Koenig from SpyCommand is really a great guy for letting me write things for his blogs, including an article about this poll :-):
