Oh, THAT guy...I sort of remember. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Yes, he's pretty infamous in the UK (for good reason) but he may not be as well known on continental Europe. Actually, hearing that he fell from his pram as a child and almost died reminds me of how John Gardner's David Dragonpol fell from the attic opening and got his speech as a result of the knock to his head. I have this theory that Never Send Flowers and Dragonpol were the result of 1990s celebrity obsessed culture. The novel and villain was Gardner's reaction against it.
