JAAAAMMMESSS!!!
TMWTGG: Pepper. He has no business being in this film. He alone ruins the whole thing for me. LOL
FYEO: Bill Conti's score, Bibi (can't stand her), and the hockey attack.
OP: Tarzan yell; Vijay playing the Bond theme; Octopussy's female ninjas clad in red jumpsuits (really? whose idea was that?)
AVTAK: Moore's is too old; visible stuntmen;Beach Boys
At the same time, each film has redeeming qualities: Thailiand (TMWTGG), Loche's death and the monastery climb (FYEO), the train chase (OP), Christopher Walken (AVTAK).
When ranking the Bond films, these four bounce all over the place. Where as I am solid in my ranking of the other Bond actors' films, this is simply not the case with Moore. It seems to depend on the week.
Oh, what's a Bond fan to do?
@BAIN123 Indeed. But Walken is so deliciously good in this film, I am constantly drawn to it.
I'd rank them like this:
-TSWLM
-FYEO
-OP
-MR
-LALD
-TMWTGG
-AVTAK
EDIT: I would like to add that with the Moore, Connery & Dalton eras I don't find too much to be polarizing. I have favourable impressions of most of the films, even if I don't objectively rate some of them too high.
That's not the way I feel about the last two actor's tenures however. There are far more highs and lows within these timeframes for me, and given the length of time to get the films out, that is impacting my opinion of the franchise more negatively as time goes on.
2. FYEO
3. LALD
4. OP
5. AVTAK
6. TMWTGG
7. MR
...or Fleming enthusiasts.
Nonetheless, I see MR as a perfect film to watch at Christmas time as its an over-indulgent, decorative family friendly feast.
Aspects of it are timeless, other aspects are very dated (the humour and shots of open-mouthed onlookers is very 70s and like something from Some Mothers do 'Ave 'Em).
1.) Moonraker
2.) LALD
3.) TSWLM
4.) OP
5.) TMWTGG
6.) AVTAK
7.) FYEO
Thinking that FYEO may surpass AVTAK on this viewing, they always flip flop. MR and OP were right at the bottom 4 years ago.
Exactly, you can't imagine todays contemporary stars getting away with a line like that.
A couple years ago on Sir Roger's birthday I watched both FYEO and AVTAK, and interestingly discovered I enjoyed AVTAK a bit more. Lately in my Roger rankings AVTAK has risen substantially-after years of being my least favorite.
I love all the Roger films, though.
Indeed. A good deal of this comes down to MR not taking itself seriously. It was much more of a knowing wink at the audience. While DAD played it dead serious with all of the over-the-top stuff.
ha ha ha....already laughing my ass off
John Barry must be one of the main reasons why I have fallen in love with these films.
...love the theme song, Shirley Bassey's best in my opinion.
There is so much I love about it.
The black humor, the characters like Wint & Kidd, I adore Charles Gray's Blofeld and he's probably my second favorite villain after Scaramanga.
Tiffany Case, well...where to start really. A wet dream come true on all levels.
Willard Whyte, laughing my ass off...can't wait until he appears....
Hi, I'm Plenty.... really, I remember DAF as the one film with the best dialogue.
Practically every single sentence and one-liner that Connery has in this film is funny to downright hilarious or outrageously brilliant.
The score has stuck in my mind and I'm so pleased to hear it again.
The lift fight, or perhaps I should say "elevator".
Moneypenny in uniform...uh...huh.... Would you settle for a tulip?
The film is quite brutal and violent too. What a perfect mix really with all of the above.
Bambi & Thumper are merely the icing on the cake, a huge cake full of wonder, fantastical episodes in the most wonderful sets by genius Ken Adam.
I'll stop now and continue watching. Cheers.
"There is no year for sherry, 007."
"Refreshing to hear there's "one" subject you're not an expert on."
The great Bernard Lee, nobody does it better. His facial expressions and comedic timing are a pleasure to watch.
"...He would have given him wings, Mr Kidd."
OMG Wint and Kidd are even better than I remembered! And then they hold hands and walk into the sunset. Well it's cloudy but who cares ha ha....
