Saw it in the cinema too in a blistering hot summer in 1989! Loved it then....Love it now!

It's took me a while to fully appreciate it, in my early teens I was not a huge fan of the eighties Bond movies despite watching all but FYEO at the cinema, that changed of course.

i was the opposite. Really liked it as a teenager but something changed after watching it a few years ago alongside OHMSS. It feels tatty in comparison
I agree, but I was the opposite. Disliked it immensely when younger on account of the cheap, cheesy feel and now love it.

It's a very different kind of film. It doesn't benefit from the traditional 'larger than life feel' of Bond film, unlike OHMSS. Rather, it's a killer film on account of the richness of the performances and its visceral nature.

but the thing is not ALL the performances are that good. Davi, Del Toro and Zerebe are all excellent but the ladies are all pretty bad. Dalton too is quite hit and miss in the film. You can sense him trying very hard to come off as edgy in some scenes.
I quite agree and that's why it's not a perfect film, and also why it deserves a lot of the criticism it receives. Having said that, what it gets right, it really nails imho. I far prefer it to QoS, even though they attempted with the latter film to maintain a certain Bondian style and class. There's something authentic (grungy even) about LTK for me which isn't quite there with QoS. For me, it's all about Dalton/Davi and the way Bond gets under Sanchez's skin. Everything else is secondary.

Yeah fair points. Like I said, its a good film but i feel it is a tad overappreciated by hardcore fans.

Not by me! Its been said about it that it was ahead of its time! Certainly i think it holds up well to later Bond films! For me GE which came 6 years later feels a lot more dated and dull! Glen and Wilson and Maibaum tell a good story, it was more about that and the characters rather than the globetrotting, innuendo strewn, action set piece padded tedium of the Brossa era!

I would definitely agree that it holds up better than 3/4 of the films that followed. But the low-rent direction and sometimes cheap sets don't look that good today.

Though I think the tanker chase still holds up pretty well.

Started OP. Average PTS. I am a fan of All-Time High.

I like the Astro Jet sequence, the build up is amusing also.

I love the OP PTS. Moore's little wink/nod to the soldiers is a hoot.

Gobinda crushing the dice makes me laugh. I think it’s Moore’s reaction. Great scene.

I would have loved it if Bond said. "I once knew a chap who could do that with a golf ball."

My thought exactly every time I watch that scene! :D

Only FYEO left from the Glen era after tonight. Too bad; he is one of my favorite Bond directors. Probably third after Campbell and Young.

Starting FYEO now. Has one of my absolute favorite PTSs; I don’t care about the hate.

Melina is one of my favorite Bond girls, but Bibi is one of the worst.

"Now, you put some clothes on, and I'll buy you an ice cream."

This bit cracks me up. :))

Classic. Moore delivers his absolute best performance in this film IMO. The two glaring weaknesses for me are the soundtrack and Bibi.

Kristatos is an underrated villain. Locque is good too.

I love the film, but the score is probably the weakest next to NSNA.

It’s pretty bad most of the time. I liked the music in the first half of the ski chase, and the instrumental version of the title song, but little else. Still, most of the film is so strong.

The score when Bond kicks the car off the cliff is awesome. But yeah, most of it is more like porn music. Or so I have been told.

Columbo is a great side character. For me at least, my favorite John Glen Bond films remain his first and last. The middle ones are fun too though.

FYEO is an extremely solid film and to this day remains my favourite.

    Good choice.

A long time ago, this film ranked low for me. Now it’s a potential Top 10 entry. Kind of wish Moore had gotten one more like this, but it also helps make it unique in being his most Connery-esque film.

After listening to the FYEO score in isolation numerous times over the years it's grown on me, of course I would prefer Barry though some of Conte's themes are good.

It's one of my favorites to rewatch, I just can't pinpoint why I don't rank it higher than I do.

If it had a great soundtrack, it’d probably be nearly guaranteed a Top 10 spot on my list. As it is, it usually falls between 10 and 12. That’s still quite high for Bond in my book.
