Bond tries on his dinner jacket. It fits better than Barry Nelson's.

I do wonder what color Nelson's jacket was. SUITS OF JAMES BOND was of the opinion it was buff. Nelson had heavy shoulder padding.

I wore an oversized blazer to work the other day in honor of Timmy's suits in LTK.

I thought it was funny, but everyone else thought I was just dressed up.

I love Mendel. Great character actor and great character.

Now we're getting into it. I love this entire section that deals with the poker game.
    Genuine suspense throughout.

The colors in CASINO ROYALE are beautiful.

After the less than stunning colors of TWINE, and to an extent, DAD we're back to a Bond that ranks alongside the earlier films in it's look.

Felix is quite cool here, as he should be.

    "Someone's in a hurry."

I always felt Felix, next to Bond, should be the coolest guy in the room. Jack Lord had that quality as does Wright.

    Le Chiffre is getting pounded.

    The stair well fight................YES!!!!

My favorite later Bond fight scene. I should watch SPECTRE again, though for the Hinx fight. That was pretty solid as well.

    This is intense, though.

Le Chiffre looks concerned at the table.

    Bond sits down coolly.

Now the shower sequence. Another nice moment.

I love this bit where the bodies are in the trunk.

    Bond loses this hand.

"You must have thought I was bluffing, Mr Bond".

It's kind of funny when Barry Nelson is losing in the '54 CR.
My better half was watching it with me earlier and asked:
" Why is Bond getting his ass kicked here?".
Barry Nelson had some great facial expressions there.

Daniel Craig looks like he was kicked in the gut.

Giancarlo Giannini did a comedy back in the '70's where Claudine Auger played his wife.

I had that film in a box set of comedies.

He was also in BLACK BELLY OF THE TARANTULA with Claudine.

I also happened to mention BLACK BELLY OF THE TARANTULA during our CR double feature. In addition to Claudine it also features Barbara Bach and Barbara Bouchet.

Felix saves the day. Again, Wright exudes cool.
    I think he's a GREAT Felix.

    Bond poisoned.

    Another tense moment.

Bond drinks the entire container of salt.

That's right! I tend to mix BLACK BELLY with another horror Claudine did, TWITCH OF THE DEATH NERVE.
I should find BLACK BELLY and watch it again.

Barbara Bach also did a film with Ursula Andress around that time: STATELINE MOTEL.

Bond has caviar and toast. I'd like to think there are scrambled eggs on that plate as well.

Bond got thrashed. I love that little chase.

Now is one of my fave scenes in the series.

I would have replaced the rope with a carpet beater, though.

I doubt many today would know what a carpet beater is, though.

What a crappy chair for Bond to sit on. Just makes the torture worse.

Roger would have done his OOOOOOOHHROOHHHHH
    sound during this scene.

    I've got a little itch...........down there.................would you mind?

This scene is pretty funny as well as intense.

Mads is great. I do picture the Le Chiffre of the novel as being closer to Peter Lorre, though.

Once again, another great little scene with the wonderful Mendel.

    Bond recuperating.

This does, IMO capture some of the atmosphere of the novel.

These scenes play out the way I pictured when reading the book.

    Been years, though.

Bond has proven to himself he is still in functioning order after his ordeal.

    He's ready to go again.

    The beach scene.

I rank this higher than the GOLDENEYE beach scene, but just below the THUNDERBALL Domino scene.

    Bond resigns.

I must admit, I've practically copied that message almost verbatim when resigning from a crappy job without notice.

Thank you, Bond for the inspiration.

I always try to have a back up job or income ready in such a situation, though.

Craig's hair is looking a bit longer in these scenes. More like QOS.

Bond chases Vesper and Gettler in Venice.

I'm not sure how I feel about this climax.

It's spectacular, but the simplicity of Vesper's suicide in the novel has more impact for me.

I suppose it would feel quite out of place for a Bond film not to end with some action, though.
